Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1178: Chapter 969: Turbulent Times in Luskan

Edna wouldn’t stop the people from Silvermoon City from following her team, but that was the only thing she could do for these followers of the Mistrala Elector. Until she completely retrieves those shattered memories, there’s no need to act so responsible... Let’s just let these guys take care of themselves!

After leaving the Strange Objects Shop, Edna was led by ’Old Age Striking King’ to buy some bread, fruits, and smoked sausage, as well as tools like long ropes and mining hoes.

Previously, she thought Edna was definitely a striker walking on the ground, but now she’s not so sure... But maybe they could still go into a mine or something, right?

Can’t just fall in for nothing.

In the Undead Tribe, whoever digs it, owns it. The style of Edna brought out by ’Old Age Striking King’ is, of course, similar.

Walking towards the port, the ’Old Age Striking King’ suddenly remembered something and directly shouted towards ’Snow Cloud Peak’ standing in front of the Agleya Temple: ”Old Dog! Where’s that camping gear in your hands? Give it here!”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ froze for a moment, then looked at Edna: ”As guards, we can help them set up camp, but the food and drinks should be provided by themselves!

No need to make the young girl so troubled!”

’Old Age Striking King’ lifted his chin: ”Why the hell so much nonsense! You don’t have much use anyway... That girl who likes going out has already kicked you out, hasn’t she?

Besides, don’t you understand the concept of being prepared?”

’Snow Cloud Peak’s’ face visibly darkened: ”Why do you have so much nonsense?”

But he immediately started rummaging through his bag, preventing Lady Sanda King’s follow-up strike.

The Female Priest looked back at Edna and said gently: ”Let me tell you, camping gear is everywhere, but the best is what we bought from Teraxil before; it was handmade by Hill before he got so strong.

Hill is someone who tends to be extravagant with whatever he does, using materials that are basically the highest grade among their kind.

With the gear in Old Dog’s hands, one can survive independently in the wild for up to a hundred years; it’s perfect for you.”

Edna thought about it and understood what ’Old Age Striking King’ was concerned about... This time, luck was on their side, everyone ended up together, and things could be handled by the Undead Tribe. But what if they scatter randomly next time?

If the people following Edna were from Toril instead of the Undead Tribe, ’Old Age Striking King’ wouldn’t be so trusting... Leonard is fine, but Half-Elves can survive on berries alone; she doesn’t want Edna to live so miserably.

Edna decided to accept the Sanda King’s goodwill but couldn’t just take it.

She asked softly: ”How much does this set of things cost? I can’t just take it for free, even if it’s considered a gift from you.

Sanda King Sister, I really still have money.”

’Old Age Striking King’ thought for a while before saying: ”It’s not fitting to give money. I remember you said you have quite a few gemstones, do you have Tears of Laila?”

Looking at Edna’s confused expression, ’Old Age Striking King’ explained with a laugh: ”Old Dog recently needs to deal with people from Luskan, and that thing is quite suitable as bait.

It’s unfortunate that Hill doesn’t like things that are easily broken like that, and there’s nowhere to buy them, making it feel like they have a price but no market.

But buying them from other cities, Old Dog thinks it’s not easy to keep it confidential, so he’s been searching on his own secretly.”

Edna nodded: ”I have them.”

She didn’t ask why ’Snow Cloud Peak’ was secretly searching for things, but ’Old Age Striking King’ knew... Relationships among the Undead Tribe are always strange; even if they seem friendly, there’s no stopping them from spying on allied families.

Moreover, once you know, it’s hard not to bring it out to mock the other side.

The young girl was curious about something else, so she couldn’t help but ask: ”I thought the biggest things lately all have to do with me! There are probably hundreds of Toril spies following me, right?

What’s going on in Luskan? Can there really be other issues?”

”Heaven knows why so many Sel’s escapees want to go to Icewind Valley from Luskan. It’s said Tyr Temple is worn out, and Luskan has been quite affluent these years. Those folks just can’t resist grabbing and running for the fun of it,” ’Old Age Striking King’ shrugged, ”Old Dog is waiting for Laila to send an SOS message.”

”But why bait?” Leonard couldn’t help but ask, having overheard half of the talk, ”Isn’t your interaction give and take? Hasn’t Laila decided to become independent from Agleya’s territory?

I don’t think she’s so arrogant; Laila is much more rational compared to Kelben.”

”Luskan is now a typical Toril city~ Power is diffused, internal strife is frequent. Laila doesn’t like managing too much but doesn’t want her power to be decentralized either, so she’s supported numerous small factions that don’t get along.

Additionally, Laila recently has been mysterious, rarely leaving her palace and not meeting outsiders. To see her, we have to ask her trusted aides in Luskan to convey our message.

It’s completely different from Agleya here. Lynn wanders around there every day; if there’s anything, you can just find him,” ’Old Age Striking King’s lips curled into a peculiar smile, ”Luskan’s officials always have all kinds of strange excuses to deal with allies. Old Dog understands; after all, no one wants responsibility. He’s just planning to establish a quick communication channel for himself.”

Edna couldn’t help but laugh along.

Although she didn’t spend much time with ’Snow Cloud Peak’, she understood this commander somewhat... always wishing to exert a bit of effort in exchange for great benefits.

Only the wicked intellectual activities weren’t charged, and could be used as desired.

She somewhat understood why Luskan was so special: as an outsider from another world, Hill did not wish to bind himself too deeply with Toril.

And for such a Lord Hill, Luskan was merely a troublesome place that became even more troublesome when managed.

So he didn’t care at all how Laila managed Luskan.

The Undead Tribe didn’t care either, even though Luskan was clearly their territory, it had a different style: having a place to exercise their wit and courage wasn’t bad.

Edna flipped through her bracelet and found more than ten of Laila’s Tears... although these gemstones were renowned, they had no value beyond their name.

A palm-sized transparent gemstone, with strands of threads constantly changing colors inside, supposedly resembling Laila’s ever-changing eyes, hence the name.

But these easily shattered gemstones couldn’t become magic materials, apart from being rare, they had no additional value.

Edna thought Laila might not even like them that much herself... but that lady couldn’t refuse flattery from people brandishing gemstones named ’Laila’s Tears’, right?

So Laila could only throw them into her dimensional space.

Edna thought the stones were scarce because after the lady acquired them, she never released them again... If it were Edna, she would put out a portion every year to let people buy them back to gift her!

The ’Old Age Striking King’ looked at the pile of gemstones Edna held with both hands and chose one relatively large but not very valuable... The price of Laila’s Tears wasn’t based on size but on crystal quality and the designs formed by the threads.

”This one... should sell for 2000 gold?” the ’Old Age Striking King’ assessed.

”Pretty much!” Edna looked sideways, then turned to shout, ”Elvia, come take a look!”

The White Dragon Queen took a glance and said earnestly, ”In Sword Bay, it could sell for 2000 gold, but over in Steam Lake, it might only fetch around 1500 gold.”

”That’s perfect,” the ’Old Age Striking King’ said with satisfaction, taking the gemstone to exchange it with ’Snow Cloud Peak’.

Edna laughed and patted her sturdy white dragon friend’s front claw.

The White Dragon Queen lay down slowly, tilting her head to ask, ”Edna, you seem much better! Can you tell me something now?”

”I think you’d be happier not knowing,” Edna suddenly recalled Elvia’s grand ambitions before following her... Even if Edna could live for thousands of years, she could endure it.

”What do you mean?”

”I... It’s more than just living for thousands of years.” Edna whispered, ”You might want to discuss with Arausato how to live in the future.”

Elvia looked at her in surprise, her long forehead wrinkling with several folds: ”Do you think you might become a demigod?”

She was about to say something but then thoughtfully held back... something seemed a bit off~

Elvia lowered her head, truly sensing Edna’s mental sea... Why had it expanded so much suddenly?

She looked down at Edna, suddenly sensing the mysteries of fate... Either Azuth had turned Edna into his Chosen, or... Edna’s identity might not be as she thought.

So, was Edna saying nothing to let her choose herself?

Or... she couldn’t say.

Accepting the picnic set from Sanda King’s hands, Edna’s long eyelashes couldn’t help but flutter... Hill actually used mithril and high-level energy crystal stones to make everyday items?

No wonder Sanda King said these items could last 100 years.

She couldn’t help but look up at the floating castle in mid-air: Fortunately, this person could slay an ancient dragon bare-handed, otherwise, what Hill had revealed would have incited the dragons of the Ferun Great Land to unite and attack.

Looking down, she once again organized her various storage tools, calmly walking towards the port inn, lightly smiling at the tiger person who had been staring over from the doorway: ”We depart for Deepwater City at dawn tomorrow. Could you please inform Devis and Luca?

Some things are better to be prepared for, after all, we’ve just set out and already encountered so many things.

But this time it was because Agleya was nearby, so reinforcements came relatively quickly.

Next time, it might not be so easy, it’s best to be prepared.”

Soma nodded expressionlessly, and upon seeing the arrival of guests from Silvermoon City, Luca had given up struggling and planned to borrow Devis’s attendant.
