Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1152: Chapter 944: Agleya City Braces for Trouble

In any case, the matters in Long Saddle Town have come to an end.

Mr. Lynn told List to inform Hill that they must contribute a little… The various forces in Toril have tacitly agreed to let the Righteous Knights of Tyr handle the subsequent affairs of the Haber Family.

The ordinary residents of Long Saddle Town, as well as other mages, including apprentices who relied on the Haber Family for survival but were abandoned, all need to go through the alignment detection spell of the Righteous Knights… Those who succeed must live in Luskan.

Hill was somewhat dissatisfied with this… Luskan still nominally belongs to his territory, and he is not very willing to take over these troubles.

But Mr. Lynn said calmly and brutally: Luskan must have its own defense force, and even the Temple of Tyr cannot be completely relied upon.

What if something happens to Tyr? What if there is another situation like this one where there are no divine arts to use?

Even if the Righteous Knights are willing to fight to the death, how many lives do they have to sacrifice?

The Toril people will not always pin their hopes on the Undead Tribe.

After all, how long can the Undead Tribe help defend Luskan? Visitors from the Otherworld may leave at any time.

The half-orcs come down the mountain regardless of the season; as long as there is not enough food on the World’s Ridge, they will charge down… The half-orcs are the only race in Toril that can rival goblins in reproductive speed and lack reproductive isolation with most races.

These people being sent to Luskan does not mean they are official residents of Luskan… Neither criminals nor the descendants of criminals are entitled to the generous treatment Hill grants his own citizens.

It’s only because there is a Righteous Knights corps next door that those involved in Long Saddle Town have a chance to live.

Even if they become convicts, these people still have a chance to free themselves in the future… Fighting against half-orcs is the best way to atone.

This is also because the most powerful Lord of Agleya near Long Saddle Town is known for disliking slaves, and the Undead Tribe has said a lot about Teraxil, so the Righteous Knights handling Long Saddle Town judged these people according to the most just law in Ferun Great Land.

If a more greedy type of lord lived next to Long Saddle Town, even those mid- and low-level mages would become his slaves… trapped for generations without escape.

Only high-level mages would have a chance to walk the path of redemption fighting half-orcs or demons.

Toril was always such a cruel world; following the wrong person, today’s result is already quite fortunate.

Hill may not like these matters, and Agleya City has enough confidence to reject such troubles.

But Luskan cannot; being in the most dangerous place while needing the support of many Toril forces, it must do things according to Toril’s orthodox rules… unless Hill decides to fully annex Luskan.

Hill thought for a moment and decisively made a decision, allowing the Righteous Knights to conduct trials.

Luskan was never part of his many plans, merely an unexpected result.

When the Undead Tribe leaves, the Alchemy Hall will naturally follow… By then, even if Luskan declares its departure from the Agleya Faction, Hill would not care.

Nevertheless, given Hill’s understanding of Laila, that lady’s ambition is not that great yet.

Maybe one day, when it’s one of her sons, Luskan might not revere Hill as their lord, then he probably wouldn’t have any ideas of reclaiming it.

The reason many Mage Lords of Toril have such a strong desire for expansion is to fight for more resources; although places like Luskan are dangerous, they are actually very popular due to their convenient transportation, being the only external passage for Icewind Valley.

However, until Hill clears the waterway to Ferun Inland, the benefits brought by Luskan do not outweigh the troubles this city faces.

Otherwise, it would not have fallen into the hands of pirates and necromancers.

Hill knows very well that Luskan’s current appearance of peace is only because he is still around… As soon as Hill leaves this world, someone will eventually get tempted.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have established such a large Temple District in Luskan, allowing temples from Neutral and Kind Alignment to enter, not to mention permitting the Winter Maiden’s temple to continue to exist.

He only forbids Olypher’s priests from forcing ordinary people to participate in worship ceremonies… for those who voluntarily plunge into the icy waters, he did not intervene.

The Winter Maiden has always been very tactful… shrinking naturally.

Upon discovering that her temple was neighbored by Tyr on the left, Ilmarte on the right, and had Tom behind, those priests behaved very lawfully.

Even though Hill knew that the Great Fairy Goddess became a member of the Fury Camp because her heart had completely turned to frost.

But he really couldn’t do anything against a cowardly goddess who allows her priests to sacrifice chickens and ducks as evil ritual offerings… Instead, many Northern Girls driven to despair survived because of her urgent need for priests.

These maiden priests weren’t even judged as evil by Luskan’s alignment detection array… When the Righteous Knights encountered this the first time, some novice knights almost fell off their horses.

As for the fate of the Haber family’s bloodline, Hill did not plan to ask, and Mr. Lynn did not mention it either.

Those Habers who did not follow Marko in leaving Long Saddle Town after discovering their family’s crimes, even if they are unclear on this matter, basically have no hope of survival.

Even Marko, at this moment, is bound within the Temple by the Righteous Knights, waiting for the judgment of All Gods.

However, during this period, it’s impossible for the gods to connect with the temple on the continent about this matter, not even if he were a believer of any of them. Even using a fraction of Divine Power on him would be a waste.

So before the Goddess of Magic returns to Her Divine Throne, Marko can only be confined, waiting for the final verdict.

Though the mages of Toril are extremely powerful and quite united to some extent, this incident involves too much… The Dual Incineration Ritual has reached the Ninth Ring, those good-hearted mages who died also have their inheritance; how could they possibly speak on behalf of an enemy’s bloodline?

The Archmages can at most strive to save Marko’s life, the rest… there’s only the words ‘helpless’ to convey.

If Marko can persist without falling during this long wait, he might have a glimmer of hope… that is, he will have to travel the world with a small bag in the future, slaying demons and monsters everywhere.

Hill stood on the edge of the rooftop garden, gazing at the billowing dust in the North and sighed deeply.

The Undead Tribe with Edna seems to be heading this way!

Hill just hopes, when they are resting in Agleya City, they don’t cause any trouble.

Wait… Hill suddenly remembered something: “List, have the Gar Brothers opened an Elf Inn in Agleya City?”

“Yes.” List quietly appeared behind Hill, “It’s not far from Mr. Lynn’s governor residence.

However, Mr. Leonard should be taking Edna to stay with Mr. Lynn, right?”

“Probably not.” Hill smiled, “He’s still traveling, staying at his brother’s house would be inappropriate.

Besides, the Gar family’s hotel is more suitable; paying for accommodation, no one can say anything.”

As for Elvia, as long as Edna is qualified to enter Agleya City, she’s fine.

But the others have no chance.

That’s good.

No matter what those foolish lads chasing Edna have planned, it’s impossible for them to cause trouble in Agleya City.

Hill, who had been watching the distant scene, suddenly frowned: “Why isn’t Hydra returning to her Underworld, what’s she doing here?”

A twelve-headed Hydra, to some extent, is even more conspicuous than the White Dragon Queen following him.

They were already about to reach White Dragon Mountain, yet Hydra was still sprinting diligently. Hill asked in doubt: “Has the Hydra gotten scared dumb?”

“No.” Shaer’s voice sounded coldly, “Hydra is here to deliver the Shadow Energy Core, I don’t want to see her for now.

You let someone go and receive it, Hill.”

Hill helplessly turned his head to glance… Shaer did not transform into her shadow state again, instead, she sat seriously on the Seat of Sakuxier.

A black moon emerged on the dark purple Magic Bead, revolving behind her.

The Dead Moon Magic Orb is named as such because, when you are close to it, a dark and sorrowful aura appears, and those who continuously stare at the Magic Bead will see the negative imagery on the moon’s surface subtly flickering.

But after Hill stared at the Magic Bead for a while, he only saw a mysterious black moon.

It seems the Dead Moon Magic Orb has been completely controlled by Shaer, even the underlying laws have been modified.

It’s likely Shaer cares more about the Magic Bead’s ability to control the minds of subordinates than summoning powerful beings from the Outer Plane.

After all, the Followers of the Night, if given a chance, could indeed betray her at any time.

Hill lightly blinked… Upon discovering that Shaer could also succumb to love, an emotion ordinarily despised by the Goddess of the Night, the Followers of the Night probably include a large group of testers now.

The fact Shaer refused to make any promises regarding the usage of the Dead Moon Magic Orb is probably because she anticipated this.

He turned his head and softly asked: “Should I let Lynn go welcome them? I think he definitely wants to see his brother who just had an adventure.”

Naturally, Hill going himself wouldn’t be a problem, but when Shaer spoke, the words ‘let someone go’ were particularly clear… It’s evident the Lady of the Night doesn’t want Hill to appear before her Chosen.

This lady is always cautious with her subordinates, never allowing her Chosen to have any interactions outside of work… Hill, although not her subordinate, is essentially treated likewise.

Shaer did not respond, that’s tacit approval… She would rather trust Lynn than allow her Chosen to interact with Hill, this approach truly leaves one speechless in its oddity.
