Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1194: Chapter 985: The Blame Lady Midnight Doesn’t Want

Edna glanced again at Gendilarei, dressed in golden chainmail with a rose-red ceremonial robe draped over him... As a gesture of concession to Queen Xinbu, he adorned his robe with luxurious gold-embroidered ribbons.

But as the leader of the High Temple of Lansendel, he possessed a white ceremonial robe as well.

Yet, the guests from Deepwater City merely nodded and smiled at him, showing no signs of surprise.

No wonder Kelben did not dare to let these people into his Black Staff Tower.

Someone so shrewd could not have failed to sense this resentment... The longer Mystra remains absent, the more people there are who hate him.

Just like Manske sent to Deepwater City, everyone assumes that Mystra would surely appear near Kelben.

Edna watched all of this with bright, penetrating eyes and suddenly thought that perhaps there was no error... She did indeed appear in Deepwater City and then let that couple join forces to hand her over to the neighboring Hill.

The couple were both her own Chosen... One of them was even acknowledged as her most trusted and favored, prepared to replace Azuth’s aide.

It truly was a black comedy.

Edna looked nonchalantly at the group around her... Due to her impudence, the young lady and her contingent were placed among the representatives of various major powers.

But everyone else was familiar from long-standing interactions, and beside her stood Gendilarei, who seemed ill-intentioned at first glance, leaving her with no one interested in conversing with her.

Edna didn’t care either.

She wasn’t really there for diplomacy anyway.

The young lady gently fanned herself with a folding fan, wearing a serene smile... Wasn’t she just waiting for some entertainment?

The more cautious Kelben was, the bigger the spectacle must be!

Edna lightly touched the gemstone arm cuff on her left arm... Was the undead tribe’s broadcasting device transformable into such an item?

Then why do they often carry it around?

Wait... Edna asked Gendilarei in surprise, ”Why are you here with the emissaries? Hasn’t the Tower of the Dawn existed in Deepwater City for thousands of years?”

”Ah...” Gendilarei replied softly, ”The Lord of Agleya next door is so close with my Master yet won’t allow the Tower of the Dawn to become part of his territory!

Then it’s even more impossible for Deepwater City~

Like those Dragons, in humanoid form Deepwater City can accept their presence, but as Dragons, they’re invading monsters to be cast out.

Humans~ They fear the unknown most of all.”

Edna’s eye twitched slightly... Did Lansendel know you’ve excluded the Dawn Messenger from humanity?

Ah, he certainly knows by now.

Leonard turned his head seriously and said, ”Ever since the Dawn Calamity, wherever the Tower of the Dawn was built in any city, it has been seen as the outskirts, hasn’t it?

I remember...”

”Leon,” Edna drew a curve in front of her lips with her closed fan, ”be polite to allies, even temporary ones; at least don’t poke at others’ sore spots.”

Gendilarei chuckled at Leonard a few times: ”No worries, Edna. Among his parents, surely one had ties to those Elf Empires of yore.”

He glanced outside, ”Like the Black Staff, until he fully denies his elven ancestry, our Tower of the Dawn will always show him some courtesy.

This is the will of my Master, and one we are willing to follow.

After all, of those loyal followers of the past, only those half-elven bloodlines humans left behind remain here on Toril.”

Leonard glanced at him without a word.

Edna sighed helplessly... No wonder Leonard even got along well with Hydra but was never polite to Gendilarei.

It seems his half-elf father was probably a descendant of those High Elves left from that era.

During the height of the Elf Empire, producing half-elven offspring with humans was typically a noble affair... They alone had the habit of traveling in adulthood and might venture far to regions of human prowess.

Elves are a very proud race, and those humans whom they favored and with whom they were willing to leave descendants would not have been weaklings.

No wonder Leonard became a Nature Mage... The Druid lineage of the High Elves was very strong, unlike typical Sun Elf descendants who favored arcane arts and swordsmanship.

Edna couldn’t help but look at Nasir... This guy was just smiling away, with no intention of stepping in to alleviate the situation.

As for Devis and Luca, those two were chatting with the Quel Senta Ambassador... Oh, incorrect, it was the Quel Senta Ambassador trying to ingratiate himself with Devis, while Luca actually looked like he wanted to escape.

Sadly, Devis had no intention of suffering alone and never let go of the hand on Luca’s shoulder.

Fortunately, at this time, the door facing the emissary area was opened.

”Attention! Everyone! The Queen of Agralunde invites you.” It was River who shouted with the clearest and loudest voice.

”She... is so arrogant, is that the reason? Just a Messenger? Is that so proud?” Leonard asked quietly.

”Agralunde is a very traditional aristocratic country, where the king reigns supreme.

We can’t understand it, but there’s no need to interfere.

Just watch.” Edna also whispered back, opening a pretty purple fan to cover her mouth.

Devis, who had already returned behind them, said slowly, ”What shouldn’t surprise you is that Shadow Valley has taken over all the work for this welcoming banquet?

Normally, apprentices from the Black Staff Tower would be opening the doors.”

”But that’s Queen Xinbu.” Nasir said faintly, ”It’s normal for her to do whatever she does. Why would you find it strange?”

Edna, curious, followed behind the Shoulong envoy into the hall, only to belatedly discover that Agleya she represented was ranked sixth.

She smiled slightly, Agleya is probably the smallest powerful territory?

The Quel Senta Ambassador could only be positioned behind her.

Toril is always so realistic.

Although it was an inner ring of a circular structure, the round floor-to-ceiling windows displayed scenery of blue skies, white clouds, raging waves, and steep cliffs... Not sure where Queen Xinbu directly transferred these views into the crystal windows.

Bright blue and white lights burned on top of each arch column flanking the semicircular floor-to-ceiling windows.

On the dome of the round hall was depicted the most classic painting... On the three walls of the bookshelf filled with Magic Books, Mystra rested her head on the right hand on the throne’s armrest, watching Azuth and Visaron argue ahead.

An All-Seer with a transparent head, Safras held his Crystal Ball standing behind Mystra’s throne, seemingly all three eyes directing towards Mystra, completely ignoring the argument ahead.

Edna looked at the scene above with a bit of confusion... She certainly remembered the painting, but the feeling from then was entirely impossible to recall.

Luckily, Leonard had no interest in these things related to Mystra, he led the slightly distracted Edna to their seats.

Queen Xinbu apparently had no intention of hosting a ball.

The hall was filled with semicircular or large oval booths, separated by luxurious sofas, divided into three fan-shaped zones based on identity.

At the front was a round platform, behind the silver throne on the right were rows of single sofa chairs with Shadow Valley markings.

On the sofa chairs behind the white throne on the left were Silvermoon City’s emblem.

As for whom the black throne in the middle belonged to, there’s no need to ask.

Edna and the others had a relatively larger oval space, three three-seater sofas.

Leonard led her to the center, then sat on the right side, with Nasir choosing to sit beside him.

Devis hesitated for a moment, then realized the Quel Senta Ambassador was on the circular sofa on the left, and he pressed his forehead, pulled Luca and sat down.

The first to enter the hall was Gendilarei, sitting at the very front... obviously just one person, yet occupying a large oval booth.

Although the main stage was still unoccupied, Edna and her companions couldn’t help but look to the left at the white throne.

Those around them were the same, whispering in various languages waves made of the same implied meaning: ”Could Elaströ possibly be coming?”

Leonard frowned: ”Edna...”

Edna laughed lightly as she opened her fan to begin fanning: ”Who comes doesn’t matter. But did you see what position they gave to Miss Saint over there?”

”This side is the Ambassador zone, the middle is Deepwater City’s influence zone, and over there is the Temple and the area for the Transcendent not joining any force in Deepwater City.” Nasir said indifferently, ”Near the very front, similar to Gendilarei’s zone, that long sofa which could sit down dozens, probably belongs to Miss Saint suspected to be over there.”

The arrangement started with the single seat in the middle and unfolded at a 60-degree angle to both sides.

No matter how many admirers Miss Mansk brings, there should be enough seats... If this still isn’t enough space, Miss Saint probably doesn’t have the nerve to protest.

But also because of this peculiar layout, Miss Mansk sitting in the first row might actually be farther from the front high stage than those in the third row.

Edna couldn’t help but laugh... No matter how many shortcomings Queen Xinbu has, they were greatly diminished by her blunt demeanor.

”She must have explicitly stated that a lot of people would be brought into the venue, hoping the Black Staff Tower would accommodate.” Devis said helplessly, ”Is she planning not to conceal her abnormality?”

Edna laughed: ”What if she says she remembered some things from the past? Visaron... certainly knows a thing or two about Mystra’s matters.”

”What exactly is he after?” Nasir suddenly complained, ”Even if Azuth and Kelben perish together, it wouldn’t be his turn to rise!”

”What Visaron wants is certainly the Shadow Weave!” Edna said cheerfully, ”He really dares to dream! Even Lady Midnight probably thinks the pot is too hot to handle~”
