Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1030: Chapter 824: Vila’s First Escape

Vila initially hadn’t thought of so many things… It was only when she was discussing this task with the ‘Young Master’ that she realized, to construct this Great Wall, she had to pay a huge sum of money to the Undead Tribe to issue the construction task… To make the Undead Tribe willingly work, William had always kept the construction task’s bonus quite high. If only calculating in gold coins, the amount the Undead Tribe earns in a day from building houses far exceeds what they get from completing regional tasks.

The regional task rewards are mainly merit points that can be exchanged for equipment tools… With billions of undead each having their preferences, naturally, some prefer to earn more gold coins, which easily resulted in different choices.

But this brought a huge problem for Vila… The poor Fairy Queen counted the gold coins in her wallet, and although constructing the Great Wall was still affordable… spending it all so quickly, what would she do in the future?

Vila was immersed in the melancholy of impending poverty… She couldn’t possibly need to go back and ask Hill for help after just a few days in Kalinsan, could she?

Touched by Vila’s dedication, the ‘Young Master’, who almost considered himself a little fairy recently… spent most of his time on ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ strategizing with this ally family clan leader. This guy indeed had imaginative ideas every day, living on the same wavelength as the little fairies. Those outside their alliance, especially past enemies, watched this internal alliance struggle like a comedy… In the end, he gave Vila a good suggestion, telling her to ask if Vivian Paxia in that fortress would want to take over this Great Wall in the future.

Although the Undead Tribe would surely build this wall… Vila could also choose to have them tear it down before leaving, which would be an easy task for the millions of Earth Mages.

While their combat power couldn’t match the high-level tier in Toril, even an Archmage above Level 40 could potentially eliminate them all… Even the Lich they encountered previously wasn’t driven away by them. The Undead Tribe later understood that the big boss who entangled them for so long was probably greedy for their body… Undead Scourge materials were undoubtedly stronger, the better.

Lagon fought with them for so long without even moving his body… Later, he suddenly left upon realizing these undead were useless to him, and could even potentially cause him considerable harm.

Mages are creatures who rarely do anything without any benefit to themselves… Especially Liches, who are enemies worldwide, would never fight desperately against unnecessary foes out of a moment’s anger.

However, for the Undead Tribe, encountering a big boss that they couldn’t kill and might even annihilate their group is almost commonplace… So they just reconfirmed their level’s significance in the world of Toril… They all thought when the Goddess of Magic returns, and the world returns to normal, the game would probably be due for another update. So the most important thing now was to take on tasks and upgrade early, or else they would fall behind the curve.

The ‘Young Master’s suggestion, to some extent, proved this rich young master’s upbringing… Very apparent financial operations, laying eggs without using a chicken of his own — absolutely avoid using his own funds unless necessary, as long as he gets enough eggs. And then hatch a few chicks to give to the poor creditor… See, this borrowed chicken completed a very nice task.

But the poor creditor could do nothing, since he didn’t even know how to hatch chicks!

While Vila didn’t quite understand the ‘Young Master’s meaning, she at least understood one thing: she didn’t have to spend her own money, and the other party would willingly pay… Though she didn’t understand why ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ and ‘Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ looked at her chosen aide so oddly, the Little Flower Fairy still happily sent an invitation, inviting this Paxia to her Floral Bone Palace to discuss future defense plans.

In the letter, she emphatically stated that after the Alamir Mountain Range’s transformation was completed, the next target for the little fairies is the Mil Forest, and they couldn’t stay here forever blocking divine beasts.

So if Vivian Paxia was willing to spend money, she would ask the Teraxil Elves to turn the Alamir Mountain Range into a permanently existing defensive Great Wall, otherwise, it would only be a temporary product with a one-month life span, collapsing when they left.

Vila didn’t notice the hesitant expression and fluctuating gaze of Vivian Paxia, who came visiting with a group of scholar mages… If the Great Wall truly gets built, how could the Suldofir still be willing to accept command from the Kalinsan Royal Family under Amanata’s control?

But his presence with his aides proved he was tempted.

The few commanders of the Undead Tribe understood well, they knew this result after the ‘Young Master’ spoke… Everyone is wise; who would want to be an executive that could be disposed of at any time once they could be a leader?

Executives not starting their own business is only because they lack enough capability… Yet now, Vila has placed a company prototype before this Paxia, as long as he provides some funding to start… Though the money is significant, what it buys is an independent lordship!

While it’s uncertain if accepting this borrowed and trained chicken would result in direct bankruptcy or early demise, Vivian Paxia was still tempted despite showing a little loyalty… Even if he truly is a good person, it’s just that his threshold for betrayal is much higher than others, not impossible.

What troubled the undead aware of this affair is the ‘Young Master”s exhibit of such proficiency in financial methods… Even if this guy studied music, he might start a TM record company someday!

Indeed, learning by immersion is the best education method. But the Undead Tribe is reluctant to accept this reality… In the future job they find, their immediate boss could very well be this reckless little Young Master!

It’s truly an unbearable weight of life… Most could only sincerely hope that this rich young master’s ‘rich’ isn’t too rich.

While the undead on the big screen didn’t seem pleased, as hired participants in this diplomatic negotiation, they rolled up their sleeves and got into a brainstorming session… Apart from the three commanders, the others were some professionals the ‘Young Master’ brought in… Though they hadn’t graduated yet, they were more than equipped to deal with a group of local bureaucrats who had never played diplomatic games.

As long as the Suldofir had covetous intentions for the independence represented by the Great Wall, money was bound to follow… Maybe Vila could even make a profit.

Hill rested his chin on his hand, trying to quell his surprise… Vila’s actions bore no benefit to Amanata’s plans!

The Cup of Amanata couldn’t possibly miss this… So, how was this accomplished?

Celene in the pond laughed herself into a snort again this time: “Ahahahahaha! Hic~ Gagaga! Amanata probably never thought, that what would defeat him wasn’t willpower, but simply not having enough money…”

Hill couldn’t help but remain silent.

Was it really possible that Celene’s intuition rarely missed when it didn’t involve her own affairs… was it really realizing she would become broke for the first time that allowed Vila to break free from the control of the Cup of Amanata?

Hill couldn’t help but sigh: Poverty indeed is the most terrifying disease… It might even deter the Power of Destiny itself.

Finally, Vila happily invited Vivian Paxia and her group of scholar mages to her Floral Bone Palace to discuss future defense issues.

Satisfied at last, Vila counted the gold coins in her petal pouch after clutching her throne happily.

Hill couldn’t help but glance at the rewards those negotiation experts received… They were probably gifts from Vila, as she assumed that since the Undead Tribe leaned towards voting, they all loved such fun toys. She carefully selected some that could cast spells, which were quirky in the eyes of the Toril people, even though she didn’t have many of them herself after the celebration.

In the aspect of wall construction, the Undead Tribe that already took on Vila’s task and participated in this diplomatic negotiation can be considered seasoned workers… As soon as the task was released, they rallied and surged up Alamir Mountain with their sleeves rolled up.

On the last day, Vivian Paxia appeared beneath the mountain range, looking very serious… He just realized the implications of an actual construction of the Great Wall, making him doubt that Suldofir would still be willing to accept command under the Amanata-ruled Kalinsan Royal Family?

But the fact that he came, and brought his aides, proves that he’s tempted.

On the other hand, the few commanders of the Undead Tribe well understood that after the ‘Young Master’ spoke, the outcome would be like this… Everyone is wise, who would want to be a disposable senior executive when they can be the boss themselves?

Executives are only not starting their own ventures because their capabilities aren’t sufficient… However, now Vila has presented a blueprint for a company in front of this Paxia. As long as he produces some startup funds… this amount, although a bit much, secures an independent lordship!

Although it’s uncertain if taking in this borrowed and trained chicken would result in immediate bankruptcy or a premature end, Vivian Paxia was tempted… He might be a good person, but that only means his betrayal threshold is much higher than ordinary people, not that he is completely incapable of betraying.

Even Undead Tribe’s few commanders understood, after hearing what the ‘Young Master’ said, that this would be the outcome… Everyone here is wise; those who can be the boss would never prefer to remain as high-level executives who might get cleared out anytime!

As for not starting their own business, that’s only because they lack enough capability… However, now, Vila has given this Paxia a seedling of a company, as long as he invests start-up money… This money is a bit much, but what it buys is an independent lordship!

Whether taking in this borrowed and trained chicken would result in direct bankruptcy or be worth it in the end caused Vivian Paxia some hesitation and an uncertain gaze at first… But, despite initially showing some loyalty, he was tempted. After all, even if he was indeed a good person, his bottom line for betrayal was significantly higher than others, not that he’s incapable of betrayal.

In fact, it was precisely due to the intriguing toys that Vila had previously received from the Undead Tribe’s voting inclination, believing all undead liked these charming toys. She carefully selected some that could cast spells to serve as gifts, even though ‘Rain Falling on Mortal Dust’ and ‘Snow Cloud Peak’ were puzzled about the assistant she chose, the Little Flower Fairy joyfully sent the invitation, warmly inviting this Paxia to her Floral Bone Palace to discuss future defense concerns.

In the letter, she argued that, after completing the modification of the Alamir Mountain Range, the next goal for the little fairies would be the Mil Forest. They couldn’t stay here forever holding off divine beasts.

So, if Vivian Paxia was willing to spend money, she would invite the Teraxil Elves to turn the Alamir Mountain Range into a permanent protective Great Wall. Otherwise, it would only be a temporary structure with a one-month lifespan, collapsing when they leave the area.

Vila completely failed to notice the hesitant expression and indecisive gaze of Vivian Paxia, who came visiting with a group of scholar mages… If they actually built this Great Wall, how could the Suldofir still be willing to accept the command of the Kalinsan Royal Family under Amanata’s control?

Yet he came, bringing along his aides, indicating his interest.

The commanders of the Undead Tribe understood well that, immediately after the ‘Young Master’ spoke, this would be the outcome… Everyone’s clever, and whoever can be the boss would prefer that to being a high-level executive always at risk of being ousted, right?

High-level executives don’t start their own businesses just because they’re not capable enough… However, now, Vila has already placed a company prototype before this Paxia. As long as he provides some capital… Although this sum is a bit much, what it buys is an independent lordship!

Even though accepting this pre-trained chicken might lead to immediate bankruptcy or doom, the fact that initially, Vivian Paxia seemed quite loyal, then wavered… Even if he’s truly a good person, it just means his threshold for betrayal is much higher than usual, not that he’s fundamentally incapable of it.

Indeed, what Vila did was utterly devoid of any benefit to him… It’s similar to selling a hotbed of conflict only to make money. But the commanders of the Undead Tribe understood that as soon as the ‘Young Master’ spoke, this would be the result… We’re all wise in our ways; whoever could become the boss wouldn’t willingly stay as high-level executives at perpetual risk of being removed?

These executives aren’t starting their own business simply because their ability isn’t quite there yet… But now, Vila has already put a company prototype in front of this Paxia, and as long as he produces some startup capital… This money, though a bit much, offers an independent lordship in return!

Though there’s no guarantee that taking this trained borrowed chicken won’t ultimately result in ruin, or even an early demise, Vivian Paxia was still tempted. No matter how high his threshold for betrayal as a supposedly good man might be, he’s still tempted… So even if his loyalty seemed earnest before, it only meant his bottom line against betrayal was higher than most, not that betrayal was impossible.

And the few commanders of the Undead Tribe clearly understood, as soon as the ‘Young Master’ presented his proposition. They knew this outcome would be inevitable… Those who can be leaders would never choose to remain as senior managers who could be removed at any time, if they had the ability to strike out on their own.

Despite coming away with the knowledge they could never possibly benefit from the reckless behavior of this little Young Master being their boss in the future, the commanders remain reluctant to accept this reality… But Vila’s first experience breaking free from the Cup of Amanata’s control was truly only upon discovering she could turn into a pauper, after breaking free, wasn’t it?

Hill couldn’t help sighing: Indeed, poverty is the most terrifying disease… It can even make the Power of Destiny itself back off.

Finally, Vila was satisfied and invited a group of the Undead’s professional personnel for their tasks and their participation in the diplomatic negotiation… Besides the three commanders who came, others were certain professionals brought by the ‘Young Master’, and though they were yet to graduate, they were more than capable of dealing with local bureaucrats who had never dabbled in diplomacy games.

Given the Suldofir’s covetous intentions for the Great Wall’s independence, Vila might even earn a tidy sum.

Hill, unable to contain it any longer, was amazed… Such actions of Vila’s provide no advantage to Amanata’s plans! The Cup of Amanata couldn’t possibly miss this… So how was it done?

Celene in the pond laughed herself into a snort again this time: “Ahahahahaha! Hic~ Gagaga! Amanata’s cup probably never thought, that what would defeat him wasn’t willpower, but simply not having enough money…”

Hill couldn’t help but remain silent.

He reflected on whether Vila’s first escape from the control of the Cup of Amanata was due to her realizing she was about to become broke…

Finally, Vila contentedly invited all the upcoming diplomatic personnel to her Floral Bone Palace to discuss the future defense issues with Paxia and his group of scholar mages.

The few commanders of the Undead Tribe knew very well. Once the ‘Young Master’ finished speaking, they knew this would be the result… Everyone’s a wise one here; who would want to remain as a top manager that could be easily expunged when they could lead the company?

Top managers don’t often set out on their own because they’re not ready… Yet, now, Vila has laid out a company prototype before this Paxia, as long as he brings in some start-up funds… It may be a bit of an investment, but what it buys is independent lordship!

Even if he cannot ensure that adopting this tutored chicken doesn’t lead to immediate bankruptcy or early demise, the usually devoted Vivian Paxia was tempted… Even if he truly was a good guy, it was simply that his threshold for betrayal was much higher than others, not to say there’s no possibility of betrayal.

In truth, what troubled the Undead Tribe aware of this affair was the ‘Young Master’s apparent mastery in financial manipulation… Even though this guy studied music, he might even start a TM record company one day!

Lived experience indeed is the best form of education! But the undead do not want to accept this reality… In the jobs they find in the future, the boss who might act recklessly could very well be this little rich Young Master!

It truly is the unbearable burden of life… Most people can only hope that this rich young man’s ‘wealth’ isn’t too abundant.

The undead in the big picture, though their expressions weren’t particularly pleasant either, as the hired participants in this diplomatic negotiation for Vila’s task, they rolled up their sleeves and joined in the brainstorming… Aside from the three commanders, the remaining were some professionals the ‘Young Master’ gathered… They might not have graduated yet, but they were more than capable of handling a group of local bureaucrats who had never engaged in diplomatic negotiations before.

These Suldofir people, as long as they harbored any ambition for the independence represented by the Great Wall, were sure to pay… There’s even a chance Vila could make a score.

Hill leaned on his chin, striving to smooth his feeling of surprise… What Vila did has no benefit to Amanata’s plans at all!

The Cup of Amannata cannot fail to notice… So, how was this achieved?

Celene in the pool laughed herself into a clapper again this time: “Ahahahahaha! Hic~ Gagaga! Amanata probably never thought that what would defeat him wasn’t some force of will, but simply not having enough money…”

Hill couldn’t help but remain silent.

When it didn’t concern herself, Celene’s intuitive responses were almost always correct… So, could it be that the first time Vila broke free from the Cup of Amanata’s control, was because she found herself becoming broke?

Hill glanced at the shadow under the tree… On the other hand, it might be somewhat related to the Floral Bone Palace?

But the connection is not big, only providing Vila with an opportunity… Hill didn’t think the isolation power in his Floating Castle was that much lower than that of the palace.

Hill couldn’t help but sigh: Indeed, poverty is the most terrifying disease… It can even make the Power of Destiny shy away.

Finally, Vila happily received a large sum of money and a promise from the Suldofir people that they would absolutely no longer damage the natural cycle of the Alamir Mountain Range… Just earning some extra money didn’t satisfy those future diplomats who finally had a chance to showcase their skills.

But they knew that when the Undead Tribe left, the little fairies wouldn’t have the strength to control these Kalinsanians, so they chose conditions that would please Vila and ensure the Suldofir people could at least meet them for a while.

When Vivian Paxia and his entourage left, the beautiful Young Queen happily announced the task… She straightforwardly handed the gold coins to the Temporal Artifact.

Then Vila joyfully rushed back to the throne, hugging her flower petal pouch, counting the gold coins.

Hill glanced at the task rewards those negotiators received… They should also be the gifts Vila received.

Since she believed in the voting tendencies of the Undead Tribe, Vila seemed to think that all undead were very fond of those interesting toys, and she carefully selected some magical animal toys for these negotiators.

The Undead Tribe members were genuinely happy… Even if they weren’t as exquisite as those in Hill’s hands, they were at least limited edition.

All the undead who watched the celebration knew that even Vila herself didn’t have many of these toys, which appeared a bit quirky even in the eyes of the Toril people.

When it came to building the Wall, the Undead Tribe were already seasoned workers… Once the task was released, they rallied their friends and charged up to the Alamir Mountain.

Vila’s requirements were not high at all for the Undead Tribe… They did, after all, build Saral’s towering Obsidian Wall!

This stone Great Wall, which wasn’t even as demanding as the Luskan City Wall, was completely effortless for them… With an assembly line-like operation, a 20-meter-high Great Wall had appeared on the Alamir Mountain in less than three days.

Vivian Paxia appeared on the mountain range on the last day, looking very solemn… Only now did he realize the sort of presence he had invited.

If it weren’t for these Teraxil Elves having no interest in Kalinsan, he would’ve been letting a wolf into his house.

Just because he thought well of that Lord of Agleya didn’t mean those from his hometown were also harmless… Vivian Paxia felt at that time he must have been driven crazy by that group of unreasonable Amanata Believers.
