Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1011: Chapter 806: The Sparrows Following Behind

Standing in front, ”Snow Cloud Peak” scratched his head: ”Is that thing still not broken? Should we go down and get it? Someone ask William!”

”Seems like we don’t need to bother with it,” ”Rainfall Mortal Dust” said, leaning over from behind him.

”Isn’t that Lagong over there?” ”Snow Cloud Peak” waved and yelled at the photographer behind them, ”That live streamer! What are you doing back there? Hatching eggs?

Hurry and come to the front! Why are you filming us? Did water get into your brain?

Shoot down below! Zoom in the camera!”

The reporter squeezed forward silently, his filming equipment nonchalantly sliding past ”Snow Cloud Peak’s” face. Hill leaned back suddenly... those large nostrils, the pale whites of the eyes, and the twisted cheeks... Hill suddenly couldn’t remember what Snow Old Dog originally looked like.

Offending a photographer is truly a major calamity in life!

”Snow Cloud Peak” actually had his own little thoughts... He usually wore a snow-white robe and had light blue long hair. Although his words and actions were often unkind, he always had a slight smile on his face.

So, although no one wanted to date him, there were still some girls who had a bit of a crush on him.

But after this return, that might be all over... In online games, without a face, you have nothing.

The filming equipment was finally placed on a piece of volcanic rock, aimed directly at the lich that had appeared from who knows where... Hill estimated that it had been following the Undead Tribe this whole time.

That skeletal figure in a tattered black robe nimbly circled around a severed hand a few times, a pair of purple eyes flickering in its eye sockets... But every attempt it made to use a tool to collect that hand ended in failure... If it didn’t retract quickly, the Archmage’s staff held in its claw would have been directly consumed by black flames.

Hill propped his chin, watching the large screen, not believing Lagong could control Vikna’s Magical Eye Palm... Even if he were a lich that knew Dragon Spell Magic, before Vikna, this Master of Runes was of no value at all.

Unless he became a demigod lich, otherwise, it’s impossible for even a lich living thousands or tens of thousands of years to control this hand and the eye embedded on the back of the hand.

Lagong suddenly froze, and after a few minutes, began slowly walking towards that hand... From the stiffness of his body, it seemed this bold lich had already been controlled by Vikna’s Magical Eye Palm’s ”Dominate Human” or ”Dominate Undead” spell.

Even though these spells aren’t strong, it depends on who’s using them... If it’s Vikna himself, anyone below level 45 can’t possibly save themselves; his eyes might be a bit less effective, but controlling a Level 35 lich is a piece of cake.

Lagong was indeed deserving of being a mage immersed in runes for years; just before touching that hand, he stopped... Hill could feel from that back silhouette his desperate struggle.

Vikna’s Magical Eye Palm is indeed a very powerful evil artifact; whoever obtains it can definitely become one of the most powerful mages in Toril... But unless absolutely necessary, few mages are willing to become Vikna’s puppets.

You should know that even Dylinka, with intermediate Divine Power, didn’t dare to have his clone directly contact this thing, even having to sacrifice the divine artifact robe he’s worn for hundreds of thousands of years.

Lagong eventually broke free... Thanks to the Undead Tribe’s selfless giving, they cast spells like Exorcism down into the volcano below out of boredom.

Perhaps the Undead Tribe intended to eliminate both the lich and the evil artifact, but enough pain awoke Lagong’s will, and once he came to his senses, he quickly swung his magic wand... leaving only a High-level Corpse Demon behind.

Lagong once again used his position-swapping spell, leaving Vikna’s Magical Eye Palm with only a wooden-headed Corpse Demon arduously elevated to Level 35 through some magical means.

The artifact seemed to hesitate... But before it made a decision, the Corpse Demon, enraged by the Undead Tribe’s continued exorcism spells, lunged at the rocky, dust-covered cave wall, seemingly trying to climb up to attack the Undead Tribe.

The delighted Undead Tribe gleefully began playing whack-a-mole... yet the Corpse Demon seemed wholly indifferent to its strenuous journey of climbing and falling off in segments, persevering with full determination.

Truly a monster made through magic... with intelligence utterly fed to the dogs.

Hill thought the exceptionally flickering dark light on Vikna’s Magical Eye Palm seemed rhythmic... He was probably swearing.

However, having depleted too much energy to escape, it had no way of controlling a Corpse Demon more than 20 meters away unless it was willing to brave the Holy Rain filling the sky, but if it did that, the Undead Tribe might possibly unleash even more powerful Light Magic.

Though it couldn’t kill him, artifacts can feel pain too, especially living-formed artifacts like Vikna’s Magical Eye Palm.

Amidst the Undead Tribe’s cheerful banter, Hill noticed a slowly advancing shadow at the opposite cave bottom... Lagong had just burst out from the rear flank, but surprisingly, there was another one hidden directly in front.

Furthermore, Hill sensed that this shadow wasn’t evading the Undead Tribe... The only ones still daring to unabashedly use Shadow Magic are either spell-like ability users or Shaer’s Clerics.

I really don’t know how many unseen predators are following this undead tribe’s underground advance this time.

’Snap’!

A thick white web directly stuck to Vikna’s Claw... the shadow was startled, suddenly pounced and reached for the hand that had flown out... but she miscalculated, only grabbing onto the eyeball hanging from the hand.

Hill widened his eyes in surprise... Rose actually still has a Wax Melt Demon remaining in the Prime Material Plane! And it’s closely following the undead tribe... if it’s not for these Dilo Dwarves, then she’s planning to ambush when the undead tribe deals with the Zholar.

This Spider Queen really likes to keep a backup plan.

Just don’t know how the Spider Magic Net, now only half remaining, is doing.

As for that shadow, Hill wasn’t surprised. It would be strange if Shaer’s minions weren’t following!

Now in this part of the Underdark where the undead tribe is, while the Zholar and Dilo Dwarves seem strong, most of the underground dwellers aside from these two races are actually followers of the deity of the Underdark— that big lizard that Shaer devoured and impersonated.

The priests of the big lizard now use divine arts bestowed by Shaer... so the shadows are their home.

The shadow suddenly moved, swallowing that eyeball right in front of the Spider Queen and the undead tribe under the rain still drifting from above.

Then suddenly began rolling all over the ground... his movements were so intense that the shadow had to fade away, revealing his true form... it was a proto-serpent lizard with twelve heads.

He was ten meters long, with a deep brown back, a tea-colored belly, and twelve pairs of amber-colored eyes... it was a Flame Serpent Lizard that liked warm swamps.

He suddenly opened his mouth and spat a ten-meter-long flame directly at the large undead spider and then once more vanished into the shadows, completely unaffected by the eyeball’s control... this fellow must be the guardian beast of Ebrandor, the deity of the Underdark... essentially his chosen.

The big lizard had many giant magical beasts as guards trailing behind him before Shaer took him down... the big lizard didn’t quite trust those humanoid creatures who offered him their faith.

Actually, in some ways, his suspicion wasn’t misplaced... those humanoid followers living underground practically threw themselves eagerly into Shaer’s embrace... although Ebrandor himself was a neutral deity, never too harsh on his followers... he really didn’t understand that humanoid creatures always yearn for sunlight, even those Zholar despised by the sun do—they just can’t, not don’t want to... so those willing to stay underground were generally not good people.

And unless absolutely necessary, no humanoid creature would easily offer their faith to a big lizard... again, unless absolutely necessary.

For these people, Shaer is much stronger than Ebrandor.

But Ebrandor also overlooked one point; although he gave his trust to these giant lizards... as long as the aura is the same, these lizards wouldn’t discern which is the real him... Shaer easily turned all these beasts into her subordinates.

These demigod-level magical beasts are quite useful, aside from not being very intelligent.

Like Vikna’s divine artifact, now just an eyeball, with the ability boost lost after disassembling, it couldn’t dominate the proto-serpent lizard even after being swallowed.

Hill suddenly realized that Shaer might’ve deliberately let the serpent lizard act a bit slow... her target should be the eyeball focused on dark magic, not the hand leaning towards necromancy.

This goddess, although her ways are extreme... except when dealing with Celene, she is typically quite restrained, retreating if one strike fails, and seldom taking risks voluntarily.

Furthermore, she probably wouldn’t use these unsightly divine artifacts... look at A Thousand Petals in One Night, and then at the Dark Orb; all divine artifacts linked to Shaer are exquisite.

Watching the twelve-headed serpent lizard flicker in and out of the shadows, fiercely burning the large spider, the undead tribe standing above the cavern cheered loudly: ”Hydra! Attack!”

”Bite her! Spray her! Burn the big spider!”

”Charge! As long as the heads aren’t tangled, it’s the best Hydra!”

Such jubilant behavior from the undead tribe isn’t because they know that this gigantic magical beast is in some way an ally, but... it’s a Hydra!

And it’s a very beautiful Hydra... the visage might be fierce and vicious, but its whole body seemed to shimmer with an amber light... looking down from above, it indeed looked a bit like a toy.

Whose childhood hadn’t seen or played with toys resembling a Hydra?

Moreover, the Hydra’s opponent is a Black Widow Spider, so there’s no need to hesitate... at least that entity is the enemy, they’re quite sure of that.
