As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 47: Chapter 46 - The Eternal Crescent Moon

The night wind blew past me, who had just finished dinner with my mother.

The wide-open bedroom window seemed to comfort me, who was having difficulty to sleep in the cold moonlight. It made me think for a moment, admiring the beauty of the world of the novel I had written with my own two hands.

A story about a hero who will be born from the darkness of night and despair that surrounds him at every step. Guilt over the past still haunts me to this day. But amidst that guilt, I found clarity, and a clarity that is certain to be... Where is the main storyline of this world.

Thankfully, it’s not a tragedy theme like the main storyline should be, but an alternative storyline that changes the Villainesses fate.

Why am I sure about all that?

Because the answer I’ve always been looking for... is in the night sky.

An answer I didn’t notice the night before and fell into a misleading paradigm.

”Such a beautiful moon at night...”

”I didn’t notice this, even though you are the answer I’ve been looking for all this time.”

”Really... I’ve been so stupid the past few days. But this is me... someone who is neither the main character nor a side character who drives the plot in this world.”

With a soft voice and a glance at my mother, I made sure she didn’t wake up to the cold night air that prickled her skin. The scent of foul oil ointment still lingered in the room, which was why she slept with the window wide open without fear of someone sneaking in.

Even if a fool dared to sneak into our room, it would be a serious issue for the maids on duty at night. The accusations that they were neglecting their security and night patrol duties would diminish their credibility as female knights serving in the Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s residence.

My eyes were fixed on the two moons shining brightly at night.

To be honest, I hadn’t noticed it before.

The question of where I was? It was answered instantly if I looked up at the night sky.

”The eternal crescent moon that always hides behind the big moon.”

”Y-You... show yourself as my answer, eternal crescent moon.”

Swoosh...

Swwiisshh...

The night breeze brushed against my body again, not feeling too cold, but triggers a faint hunger and a strong desire to eat French fries at night, just like in my old life. Long before I became Liliana... Before I was working as a maid apprentice in Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s residence.

This nostalgic sensation that I feel is so warm and makes my heart feel relieved.

”Alternative storyline, huh? It’s time for me to move along with the main alternative storyline.”

”The problem at this point is... how do I do all that?”

”That alternate storyline... There was no character named Liliana, and every surviving Villainess girl had a Butler as a protector behind the scenes for their love interest.”

Swoooshhhh...

Swwooosshh...

As if answering my doubts, the night breeze brushed my face as I enjoyed the beauty of the night. Followed by the sweet growl of hunger from my stomach.

”Please don’t make me get used to feeling hungry in the middle of the night like in my previous life, Liliana.”

”That’s a bad habit that will make you gain weight.” I looked left and right, trying to advise Liliana’s lightly starved body with the advice of an old woman who was already dead with unhealthy habit.

Krrruuuttt...

The sound of my stomach couldn’t hold itself back any longer; the once faint sound became loud and made me sigh at Liliana’s spoiled body.

”There’s no other way, huh?”

”Just this once, Liliana...”

”Well, even sleeping would be useless, because I would continue to feel hungry and will dream of eating the cheese french fries of my old world.”

”I know this is wrong, but there’s no rule against apprentice maids cooking at night, right?”

A dangerous, cynical smile spread across my face.

With slow footsteps, I left the room and walked through the dark halls without using the magic lantern. My eyes, which had adapted to the darkness and saw the beauty of the eternal crescent moon hiding from the big moon, made it easy for me to see into the darkness of this quiet hallway.

I’m relieved that in this world, the only things humans can’t see are spirits and higher-level beings who have lost their bodies. Not the ghosts of horror novels or Eldritch-related entities.

I don’t like that kind of thing and deliberately don’t include that kind of genre in alternative stories.

If something like that in the main story...

Well, I’ll slap myself in the past for write something like that!

Tap...

Tap...

These soft footsteps echoed in the hallways of the maids’ rooms, where they slept soundly at night and prepared to wake up tomorrow with new enthusiasm. But here I am, walking towards the kitchen, which is still busy with the bright magic lantern light coming from behind the door.

Braanngg!!

Several voices were echoing in the kitchen, and a panicked woman’s voice was... somehow covered by the sound of cooking utensils falling loudly to the floor.

I peeked through the open kitchen door and saw two graceful figures sitting on wooden chairs. It didn’t match their aura of high nobility and their beautiful faces that pierced the chill of the night breeze. Their pastel purple hair hung limp in the approaching night, their soft hands gently tugging at the pages of a thick book held in their slender hands, and their eyes calm as if they hadn’t slept at night.

Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg, she sat on a wooden chair in a sheer evening gown that could captivate men. The natural beauty of a mature woman which already married and her sweet daughter, the two of them... who didn’t care about her appearance, could make a man fall for their beautifulness.

Luckily, I’m not a man who can be tempted by such beauty.

Kreeekkk...

The sound of the kitchen door creaking drew Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s eyes from her book, and Master Amagi smiled broadly at me.

”Liliana!” The loud shout blocked my steps to walk back; I was already trapped to entering this busy kitchen.

”G-Good evening, Master Amagi,” I said with a formal greeting to her.

I stepped into the kitchen and saw the expressions on the faces of the maids who were on duty at night; they were holding cooking utensils in the wrong position, and there were some who were holding large swords to cut vegetables on a wooden chopping board.

My face turned into an stiff smile.

”It seems... I came at the wrong time.” I continued, holding back the smile on my face that wanted to comment on the unique behavior of the night maids on duty.

”What’s going on?” I asked in a casual tone to Master Amagi, who got down from her chair and came towards me with a gentle smile on her face.

”We were starving after our evening training and wanted a second dinner, but the maids on duty in the kitchen had already finished their duties. So we asked the night maids on patrol to make a simple meal,” Master Amagi replied, making my head spin quickly to understand the situation.

The night maids on patrol duty were told to cook?

Can they do such a task?

Uhm, it’s not that I doubt their poor cooking skills or think they can’t cook.

However, I doubt their taste in food and their ability to eat anything during the inhumane training conducted by Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld.

Ugh, that was bad. Really Bad!

It would be really bad if Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg ate their cooking.

My hands immediately raised the sleeves of my nightgown to above my elbows, brushing my long bangs to the left side, and up over my ears.

”Fine, I’ll cook...” I said as I walked towards the cramped kitchen area.

Like it or not, I have to do this to maintain the Duke and Duchess’s dignity in the eyes of Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg.
