As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 44: Chapter 43 - Honest Insults

The silence in this room was so palpable.

My hands were still busy rubbing my mother’s back with a smelly ointment that was so disgusting, and I questioned my sanity.

About... ’Why I do it?’

The oil soaked into the scar on my mother’s back, covering the dried-up wound without any signs of fading. I couldn’t expect much from this cheap ointment, as it was a ointment treatment intended only for drying wounds or scamming some people to buy it without real effect.

This kind of scars could be a disgrace symbol to my mother in the future.

I’ve heard of back wounds being a sign of someone who has fled the battlefield for a knight, a mark that destroys the honor of the male knight who cowardly flees from death.

But for a woman, it could be a sign of her having worked as a slave.

Guessing about the scar on my mother back would only reveal a dark secret, that I didn’t want to know.

So, I remained silent and keep a few things my mother scars as a secret.

I rubbed my mother’s back and joked about my increasingly demanding work as an apprentice maid. It hadn’t even begun yet, but the fatigue was already radiating through my body.

”Having two Masters to serve as a apprentice maid is strange, Liliana,” my mother replied with her head still bowed.

”Yes, isn’t it? It’s very strange, and Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld agrees to this. I don’t understand the Duchess’s plan at all,” I replied while rubbing my mother’s shoulder and giving her stiff muscles a light massage.

Not too hard, but enough to make my mom feel comfortable after working all day.

”Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld must have had other reasons. She’s not a foolish noble who always makes strange and hasty decisions. There are calculations that we, the lowly ones and uneducated not understand. Surviving tomorrow is a blessing we can all have, Liliana.”

”Hmm??” Because my mother spoke in a serious tone for a little girl to hear, I tilted my head and put on a confused expression.

Liliana’s innocent felt natural for showing her facial expressions, like a little girls that known for their honest expressions, but I used Liliana’s innocent face to hide my true expression as an adult.

Do I look like a talented con artist or an actress?

Fufu~ it will happen if I get used to this trickery.

”That must sound complicated to Liliana; no need to think about it seriously.”

”By the way... what’s the point of Liliana being busy to serving two Masters?” my mother asked, changing the subject, and I took the opportunity to show off my new salary list.

I just smiled and took my hand off my mother’s shoulder, taking the small piece of paper containing my maid service schedule on bed.

”S-Something like this?” I said as I handed her a piece of paper containing my work schedule.

My mother accepted the paper well and read my service schedule.

There are no holidays, no time to relax for myself, and every day I will meet the Villainess girl on my own novel.

Which mean... A full-week of mental torture from Master Amagi and Master Reina.

Both are Villainess girls with different tastes like strawberries for Master Reina, which are too honest about their sourness, and sweet grapes for Master Amagi, which cover up their sour side with fake sweetness.

Yes, that’s what I’m facing right now.

”A-A gold coin to accompany the Young Miss Reina and Young Miss Amagi to practice?” my mother muttered with a stiff look in her eyes.

”I also have the same expression as you, Mom.”

”I-It’s just a joke, right? One gold coin is equivalent to one hundred silver pieces. It’s the same as minimum wage for a new maid working at Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s residence.”

”Unfortunately, that wasn’t a joke,” I replied in a gentle tone and massaged my mother’s shoulders again.

”This is ridiculous, Liliana! In just one month of work, you will earned thirty gold pieces! Just to accompany them training and studies?!!” my mother said excitedly.

”Haha... Haaaahhh...” I replied with a choked laugh as Master Reina and Master Amagi’s faces flashed through my mind.

”That’s equivalent to the level of craziness...” I continued in a low tone.

The additional salary I get is indeed higher than my mother’s salary.

However, it is commensurate with the level of difficulty.

Thirty percent more than a new maid’s salary; that doesn’t include the salary of the apprentice maid I got.

My mother’s hands still trembled when she found out that the additional salary was higher than hers; it made me want to tease my mother with sweet words.

”As soon as I get a single gold coin from this job, I’m going to throw away this disgusting ointment,” I whispered in my mother’s ear.

”This horrible scars will make my mother’s beauty feel wasted, and I don’t like that.”

With that whisper, I immediately tease her with a hard pinch on her shoulder.

Twwiittcchh...

Twwiittcchh...

”AHHH!!” my mother screamed in a cute, loud tone and threw off my work schedule.

”L-Liliana!!” my mother continued to scream in her terrifying, furious tone.

I just laughed and kept pinching my mother’s shoulder.

”E-Enough! D-Don’t pinch my stiff shoulders!”

I ignored my mother’s words and continued to pinch her shoulders, not too hard and so slippery with my hands covered in oil.

While I was joking, the door to our room was opened by a maid who was in charge of delivering dinner food to the maid rooms.

Toookkk...

Toookkk...

Krrraakkk...

The joke I was make with my mother, somehow felt so strange when seen by other maid.

The maid who delivered dinner food immediately entered the room, put dinner food on the small table without saying anything, and just left.

Krrraaakkk...

The sound of the door closing made my mother feel relieved, and she pulled my hand that was on her shoulder.

”Ugh, I will definitely be seen as a mother who is pathetically working hard to make her daughter happy...” My mother grumbled in an unclear tone, continuing to pull my hand until my body was lifted behind her.

I felt like I was being carried by my own mother.

”E-Eeehh?!! M-Mooom?!” I screamed after being carried by my mother from behind, my hand holding the glass bottle of ointment, grap it, so that it wouldn’t fall from my oily hands.

”W-What are you going to do, Mom!!” I shouted and saw my mother’s smiling expression in the mirror.

At least, she was much more enthusiastic than before.

My mother quickly walked over to the small table where dinner was served. The aroma of warm dinner food mixed with the smell of oil, clashing against each other. The nausea I was enduring couldn’t be overcome by appetite.

Eating dinner at a time like this was tantamount to self-harm.

”Let’s have dinner, Liliana...” my mother said in a low, eerie tone.

It seems, I just triggered my mother’s soft angry side.

Her friendly and seemingly gentle demeanor suddenly transformed into something terrifying. My instincts screamed at me to flee, but my hands were locked in her grips.

”I-I’m still not hungry for dinner,” I replied while holding back the nausea.

”What are you saying? You work from morning to evening, right? You must be hungry... Let’s eat dinner together!”

”Y-Yes, but it’s just a small job for an apprentice maid.”

”Don’t lie, Liliana! You just witnessed the honorable duel between the Young Miss Reina and Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld, right? You must be tired... so, accept this dinner invitation from your caring Mother!”

”No! No! I’m not hungry yet!” I shouted.

I was still being carried on my mother’s back and my hand locked, now I was struggling like a little girl who refused to eat dinner with her mother.

I’m not that hungry to eat when I’m nauseous like this!

Doesn’t my mother feel nauseous after smelling this disgusting oil?

Why she has appetite to eat dinner after smelling this ointment oil?

What is the nose my mother made of?!!

Krrraakkk...

Just as I was struggling to escape from dinner time, our bedroom door opened again. The maid, who had just delivered dinner food, entered the room and took the food that had been set on the small table in front of us.

She ignored our petty argument and just bow.

”Sorry, I’ll put this dinner food outside...”

”With this kind of stench, the dinner food I worked so hard to make will taste like garbage...”

With those sharp words, she simply walked out of the room while taking out our dinner food.

My mother and I were just silent, watching the gentle insult from the honest maid.
