Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 534: Chapter 408: Becoming the Boss’s Wife

At the hospital, just after her medical examination, Meng Ran went online during her rest and saw various public opinions circulating on the internet.

As someone who debuted from a talent show and has been mainly maintaining an idol image in the entertainment industry, Meng Ran’s past experiences were filled with controversies, public opinions, intrigues, and scandals.

No talent show artist can avoid these experiences.

Thus, when Meng Ran saw that her Weibo was filled with messages from fans angrily denouncing Binhai TV as the ”Murder Station” using her name, her first reaction wasn’t to be touched by these fans defending her, but to feel uneasy.

There are two possibilities, the first possibility is that her fans have been swayed, the second one is that a group of haters disguised as her fans are causing a stir under her Weibo.

Meng Ran contacted Wan Tianlang immediately.

Wan Tianlang already knew about it.

At such times, the company’s public opinion monitoring center is on a 24-hour watch.

”It must be Lily who’s up to tricks.” Wan Tianlang said, ”Deliberately fueling the fire, trying to worsen our relationship with Binhai TV.”

The mention of Lily’s name made Meng Ran’s eyes turn cold.

”Her?” Meng Ran lightly bit her lip and said, ”Is she doing this because she’s jealous that I stole the spotlight from her? During the past competitions, when she saw that my popularity was higher, she instigated others to alienate me, subtly accusing me of not fitting in. After all this time, she’s still the same, always loving to stir up trouble.”

Wan Tianlang looked at her in surprise.

Realizing she had said too much, Meng Ran immediately stopped talking.

There was a moment of silence between them.

”The things Lily did before, we don’t need to rush, let the future take its course.” Wan Tianlang’s voice was gentle, as if persuading a schoolmate, while he pulled up a chair and sat down beside Meng Ran, ”She has offended many now, when the time comes, others will gang up against her.”

Meng Ran did not respond to Wan Tianlang’s words and asked, ”Brother Lang, what should we do about this matter?”

This matter was about someone else manipulating the narrative to inflame the situation.

Wan Tianlang said, ”We all know the truth is that it was a staff mishap, that is, a problem with the show crew. However, Xiao Ran, you are a child who considers the bigger picture. We can seek trouble privately no problem, but if we openly blame the show crew and make this issue official, it won’t look good for anyone. The company has many collaborations with Binhai TV, and you still have several program invitations from Binhai TV. Considering nothing major happened today and the injury isn’t severe, why not owe them a favor this time?”

Meng Ran tensed her jaw.

”Then, Brother Lang, what do you hope I’ll do?”

”Let’s issue a statement on behalf of the studio, informing everyone that it was a lapse in the handover of our personnel. We had some last-minute changes to our choreography after today’s rehearsal, but our side’s staff didn’t coordinate well with the show crew, which led to the stage accident.”

”Brother Lang, you mean to tell everyone that the occurrence of this stage accident was our side’s fault?” Meng Ran asked, shocked.

Her face showed complete disbelief.

Wan Tianlang said, ”It’s not our fault, it’s a communication issue. Only this way can we calm the uproar on the internet.”

Meng Ran took a deep breath, tears swirling in her eyes.

Wan Tianlang reassured, ”I know, you must feel wronged by this matter, but rest assured, no matter what, it’s their fault this time, I won’t let you suffer. I will ensure they give out a hit show and invite you as a permanent guest.”

Meng Ran said, ”Brother Lang, I’m not lacking in hit shows.”

As a popular idol like Meng Ran, she never lacks invitations to shows. In variety programs more than in films, benefits are spread more openly—whoever can bring advertisers, whoever is more popular, remains a frequent guest in variety shows.

In today’s internet era, even top-tier celebrities can only be counted as traffic.

Wan Tianlang smiled, ”I understand, I will definitely pry a leading female role from them for you to play in a drama series.”

...

An hour and a half before the estimated performance time, Zhou Yun changed into her performance outfit and started having her makeup done and styling prepared.

Her styling was a lot more complex than Song Chi’s, and by the time she was ready, Song Chi was already sitting in his chair watching a tablet.

Seeing that his brows were furrowed, Zhou Yun asked, ”What’s wrong?”

Song Chi said, ”Binjiang TV and Yuehai Network are very pleased with ’Heart Inquiry’s’ performance, asking us if we have any plans to produce a second season.”

”A second season? What would the second season be about?”

”It would be about the next generation in the story,” Song Chi said, ”I’m considering whether to do it or not.”

”Do you want to do it?” Zhou Yun asked.

”It’s not about whether I want to do it or not, really. This drama was originally produced by my previous company Zuo Jing, and it has nothing to do with my current company,” Song Chi explained. ”If I don’t do it, they can easily push me aside, produce a second season on their own and still make money. But if it’s done poorly, it could damage the reputation. Rather than handing over these risks to others, I’d prefer to handle it myself.”

”Change the entire team?” Zhou Yun asked.

Song Chi said, ”Director Kang definitely won’t direct it.”

”Then who will direct it?” Zhou Yun asked.

Song Chi said, ”All that is still unknown.”

”Then let’s do it,” Zhou Yun said. ”Your company has signed several newcomers; just tailor-make a drama for them.”

Song Chi said, ”Zuo Jing, Binjiang TV, and Yuehai Network will all want to push their people in. There won’t be many spots left for me.”

”Get whatever spots you can, besides, didn’t you say so yourself? This project is profitable even if just lying down, and it’s not like we’re asking our original crew to perform in the second part. It’s a lot less complicated,” Zhou Yun said. ”After all, the whole story will switch to new main characters, just still using the ’Heart Inquiry’ universe.”

Song Chi smiled and said, ”Why are you so optimistic?”

”The sooner your company becomes bigger and stronger, the sooner I get to be the boss’s wife,” Zhou Yun said with a laugh.

Song Chi laughed out loud.

At that moment, a staff member knocked on the door, reminding them to get ready to go on stage.

Zhou Yun and Song Chi stood in the dressing room, while others were giving their style and outfits a final check.

”Let’s go,” Zhou Yun took a deep breath, ”It’s time to embarrass ourselves on stage.”

Zheng Xiaojue stared with wide eyes and said, ”It’s not embarrassing at all! Sister Zhou Yun, you don’t know how beautiful you are right now!”

”Just keep flattering me,” Zhou Yun glanced sideways at Zheng Xiaojue, touching her face, ”Pray that I don’t sing out of tune.”

Zheng Xiaojue nodded solemnly and said, ”Sister Zhou Yun, I will pray seriously.”

Zhou Yun: ”...”

Song Chi, smiling, said, ”How is Xiao Ju such a cute girl?”
