Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: When It Comes to Showing Off, Gu Yifan Is Still the Master

The next morning, before the roosters had even crowed.

Gu Yifan was dragged out of bed bright and early by his mother!

It was all because news of him being the top scorer on the college entrance exam had spread like wildfire throughout all of Mountain City!

All their relatives, classmates, and friends had been bombarding the house phone since the crack of dawn.

At first, Chen Dongmei was still a bit dazed, but she quickly caught on after figuring out what was happening!

Now, she truly believed it—her son really was the top scorer on the college entrance exam!

Even the neighborhood committee had put up a banner downstairs early that morning: ”Warmest congratulations to our community resident, Gu Yifan, on becoming the top scorer in the college entrance exam!”

The school, however, was even more over-the-top. They had worked through the night to hang a banner they had already prepared!

After all, the school administration had known Gu Yifan was the top scorer before anyone else, so everything was prepared well in advance!

At six in the morning, the school administrators had already begun a meeting to discuss Gu Yifan’s reward and how to best publicize Mountain City First Middle School.

[Note: In 2013, the nationwide ban on sensationalizing top college entrance exam scorers had not yet been implemented.]

...

”Mom, what time is it?” Gu Yifan asked, looking at his mother helplessly with bleary eyes.

”It’s already six-thirty! What are you still doing sleeping! Look at Qinghe, and then look at yourself. She’s been up for ages, bustling around!”

”Besides, your uncle and his family are coming over, the neighborhood committee is coming, and people from your school are coming too. What kind of impression will you make if you’re not out of bed!” Chen Dongmei shot him a glare and said irritably.

”This...” Gu Yifan was completely helpless, but there was nothing he could do about it.

”Sigh...”

”If I’d known it would be this much trouble, I wouldn’t have bothered becoming the stupid top scorer in the first place!” he muttered under his breath.

”What nonsense are you spouting? Don’t make me smack you on my happiest day!” Chen Dongmei’s face darkened as she spoke through gritted teeth.

’If it weren’t for the fact this little brat was the top scorer, she wouldn’t even be speaking to him after what happened last night!’

”Ugh...”

Gu Yifan pursed his lips but didn’t say anything else.

What a shameless guy, reaping the benefits while still complaining!

If Wang Zibo were here, he’d definitely give him a thumbs-up and say with a look of pure admiration, ”Brother Fan, you’re the man! I’d give that flex a 101 out of 100, and I’m not even worried about it going to your head!!”

...

「Eleven-thirty in the morning.」

Gu Yifan and Su Qinghe stood between the school administrators, large red rosettes hanging around their necks. In their hands, they each held a large placard: one for a 300,000-yuan prize, the other for 100,000.

As the accompanying reporter pressed the shutter, the image was frozen in that moment.

「Twelve o’clock noon.」

Gu Yifan was sprawled gracelessly across the sofa, prompting Chen Dongmei to roll her eyes repeatedly.

Deciding he wasn’t worth the effort, she walked into the kitchen and started making lunch.

To be fair, you couldn’t really blame Gu Yifan.

Damn it!

From the time he’d woken up until now, the family had already seen off four or five groups of visitors. Even with his robust constitution, he was completely exhausted, and his face was practically numb from smiling!

”Su Hanhan, are you tired?” Gu Yifan asked Su Qinghe, who was sitting quietly beside him.

”Huh?”

Su Qinghe paused for a moment, then after some serious thought, she said softly, ”I’m... I’m all right.”

”Oh, if you’re not tired, come over and give me a leg massage!” Gu Yifan said with a perfectly straight face.

”Oh, okay.”

Su Qinghe nodded obediently, got up, and walked over to start massaging his legs.

Just then, Chen Dongmei walked out of the kitchen and happened to see this exact scene!

Her eyes went wide and her face darkened as she demanded loudly, ”Gu Yifan! What the hell do you think you’re doing, you little brat!”

”Huh?”

Gu Yifan was startled by his mother’s booming voice!

”I’m not doing anything?” he said blankly.

”You little scoundrel, how dare you make Qinghe give you a leg massage?”

Chen Dongmei said with a dark expression, ”All you do all day is bully Qinghe. You’re so full of yourself! Why don’t you just fly up to the heavens and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the sun while you’re at it!”

Gu Yifan: ”...-_-||”

Seeing Gu Yifan getting yelled at again, Su Qinghe quickly tried to explain, ”Auntie, I... He isn’t bullying me.”

”Qinghe, don’t stick up for him. He acts like some kind of lord, ordering you around all day. It’s all because you spoil him!” Chen Dongmei said, her tone a mixture of frustration and disappointment.

WHOOSH—Su Qinghe’s face flushed slightly, and she lowered her head in embarrassment.

However, she didn’t stop what she was doing; she just kept massaging Gu Yifan’s legs!

Chen Dongmei: ”...”

Fine!

It’s hopeless!

’So I’m the clown here again!’

’She had no idea what kind of love potion that rotten kid Gu Yifan had fed her. After his attitude last night, they were acting like nothing had happened today, and everything was fine between them again!’

Seeing his mother’s frustrated expression, Gu Yifan couldn’t help but let the corners of his mouth curl up.

”Hey, Su Hanhan, you can stop with my legs. Come knead my shoulders for me!” he said, deliberately provoking his mother.

”Mhm.”

Su Qinghe nodded obediently, got up, and walked behind Gu Yifan to start kneading his shoulders.

Chen Dongmei: ”...-_-||”

Sigh...

’Young people these days... I just don’t get them, I really don’t!’

’She had already given up the struggle!’

’All she could do now was her best to make sure her scoundrel of a son didn’t hurt the poor girl!’

But for some reason, the sight of her son’s smug face just made her blood boil!

”You rotten kid, that’s enough of that. Come over here and help me wash the vegetables!” she said, her face dark.

”Okay, okay~”

Gu Yifan could see his mother was on the verge of exploding, so he decided to quit while he was ahead. After acknowledging her, he turned to Su Qinghe and said, ”All right, you can stop for now. We’ll continue after we finish eating.”

”Okay.”

Su Qinghe nodded lightly.

Seeing this, Chen Dongmei was completely speechless.

’Go on, keep spoiling him!’

’One day he’s going to bully you to tears!’

Out of sight, out of mind. She stomped her foot and spun around, marching back into the kitchen!

With a slight smile, Gu Yifan also got up from the sofa and headed for the kitchen.

’Couldn’t be helped!’

’Empress Dowager Chen was about to go berserk. If he didn’t go help with the vegetables, he was probably going to get a real beating!’

...

”I want to touch your hair, just as a simple test...”

In the kitchen, Gu Yifan hummed a song by the future celebrity Old Xue as he washed the vegetables.

Clearly, he was in a good mood!

Chen Dongmei, standing nearby, couldn’t listen to it anymore. As she chopped vegetables, the more she thought about things, the angrier she became. With a chop, she slammed the kitchen knife into the cutting board!

BANG—!

The loud noise made Gu Yifan jump!

He turned toward his mother with a dumbfounded expression, only to see her glaring at him with a stormy face.

”Uh...”

Gu Yifan asked meekly, ”Mom, what was that...?”

”Out with it. How do you plan on handling things with Qinghe, you rotten kid!” Chen Dongmei said, her face stern.

”Uh...”

Gu Yifan was stunned for a second before he realized what she was talking about.

’Of course!’

’His mom couldn’t hold it in any longer!’

’He’d been wondering why his mother hadn’t brought it up all day. It wasn’t like her at all!’

At this thought, Gu Yifan couldn’t help but crack a small smile...
