Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Gu Yifan: I’m Not Pretending Anymore, I’m Laying My Cards on the Table

Gu Yifan was taken aback by his dad’s words.

If his dad hadn’t mentioned it, he honestly would’ve forgotten that the 24th was just around the corner.

”Oh, right!”

”I almost forgot about something so important!”

”You brat, hurry up and get the laptop to check!”

Chen Dongmei, who had been a little down just a moment ago, instantly forgot her unhappiness. She slapped her thigh and exclaimed.

”Er...”

Gu Yifan glanced at the clock on the wall. It wasn’t even eleven-thirty yet. The scores would only be released after midnight, so he said, ”Mom, it’s still early. The official website for the 24th won’t be accessible yet. Let’s check after midnight!”

”Besides, I don’t think it matters whether we check or not. Didn’t Qingbei call a couple of days ago? They said your son is the top scorer in the science track for the college entrance exams, and Su Hanhan is the second-place scorer. We’ve locked up the top two spots. What’s there to check?”

”...”

Chen Dongmei and her husband exchanged a glance, momentarily at a loss for words.

That’s right.

Two days ago, they had received calls from both Qingbei and Hu University, congratulating Gu Yifan on becoming the top scorer of the 2013 college entrance exams. The universities had also promised a slew of benefits, hoping Gu Yifan would enroll with them.

At first, Chen Dongmei thought they were scammers!

After all, the exam scores weren’t even out yet, so how could Gu Yifan be the top scorer?

Most importantly, they knew their son’s academic performance. At best, he was at the level of getting into a first-tier university. They couldn’t believe he was the top scorer in the entire exam!

But the person on the other end of the line explained it repeatedly and even brought the university president into it, which was when the couple finally, half-doubtingly, began to believe it.

And that wasn’t the end of it. The next day, Su Qinghe received similar calls, telling her she was the second-place scorer. These universities also promised her a host of benefits, though the offers were slightly less generous than Gu Yifan’s.

’Our son and Su Qinghe swept the top two spots in the college entrance exams?!’

This series of two ”big surprises” left Chen Dongmei and Gu Jiaguo completely stunned.

They both knew that Su Qinghe’s grades had always been excellent.

But their own little brat was this incredible?

It took the couple a full two and a half days to calm down and recover from the shock.

However, out of caution, the couple hadn’t told their friends and relatives the news just yet.

But to be fair, they were truly, genuinely happy.

That night, the couple lay in bed, tossing and turning, completely unable to sleep.

At five or six in the morning, they crept out to take a peek. After seeing that Gu Yifan and Su Qinghe were both fast asleep, the two were so excited they actually got into a play fight on the spot.

The struggles of middle age are something you can only understand yourself.

For the past two days, Old Gu had almost wanted to hide at his office and not come home!

If it weren’t for...

”Ahem...”

Lost in his memories, Gu Jiaguo suddenly snapped back to reality. He couldn’t help but shudder, then let out a couple of fake coughs. ”Ahem... I still think it’s better to check the scores. Once we see the numbers, your mother and I can finally rest easy.”

”That’s right!”

Chen Dongmei, at his side, chimed in, ”You and Qinghe should both check in a little while. Not seeing the scores has my heart racing!”

Since both his mom and dad insisted, Gu Yifan could only nod. ”Alright, it’s not time yet. I’ll check after twelve.”

Seeing his agreement, Chen Dongmei nodded in satisfaction.

”Oh, right!”

Gu Yifan suddenly spoke up. ”Mom, Dad, I should give you a heads-up. I’m not planning to go to Qingbei.”

”Hm?”

The moment he said this, both Chen Dongmei and her husband couldn’t help but frown.

The couple instinctively exchanged a look. Gu Jiaguo asked, ”You’re not planning to go to Qingbei?”

”Right.”

Gu Yifan nodded. After a moment’s thought, he added, ”To be precise, *we* aren’t. Because... Su Qinghe isn’t planning to go to Qingbei either.”

Gu Jiaguo: ”...”

Chen Dongmei: ”...”

For a moment, the couple was speechless.

People fought tooth and nail to get into Qingbei, and here these two were, not even wanting to go!

Really... the couple had no idea what to say.

After a moment of silence, Gu Jiaguo looked up at his son and asked calmly, ”Why not? Give me a reason.”

Chen Dongmei looked over at him as well, her expression making it clear she felt the same way.

”Er...”

Gu Yifan paused, then after some thought, he said, ”There’s no special reason. I just don’t want to go to the Capital City.”

At this, he turned and pointed to Su Qinghe. ”As for her... her reason is me.”

Seeing everyone looking at her, Su Qinghe blushed and gave a small nod.

Gu Jiaguo and his wife: ”...”

Silence...

For a moment, the couple fell silent.

After a long while, Gu Jiaguo glanced at his wife. Seeing her give a slight nod, he said, ”Well... as for which university you choose, we respect both of your decisions. However, I hope you’ll think about it very carefully. After all, within the country, those two are the best universities there are.”

After a pause, Gu Jiaguo turned to Su Qinghe and said in a heartfelt tone, ”Especially you, Qinghe. You need to think about this even more carefully. Some things can’t be decided by feelings alone. You need to think it through before making a decision. Uncle doesn’t want you to look back on this with regret.”

Su Qinghe was taken aback for a moment. She wasn’t a fool; she naturally understood what Gu Yifan’s father was saying.

She first glanced at Gu Yifan, then turned to Gu Jiaguo. Her voice was calm, but her gaze was exceptionally firm. ”Uncle Gu, I understand. I choose to be with him.”

”Er...”

Hearing this, how could Gu Jiaguo not understand what she meant?

”Alright.”

”Then Uncle respects your decision.”

He nodded, then turned back to Gu Yifan with a calm expression. ”Alright, you brat. Tell me, if not Qingbei, where are you going?”

”To Jinling,” Gu Yifan said lightly.

”Jinling?”

Hearing this, Gu Jiaguo’s brow furrowed slightly.

He was a bit surprised. He had originally thought Gu Yifan didn’t want to go to the Capital City because he wanted to stay in Mountain City. After all, his own network and connections were here. After graduation, whether his son wanted to go into business or politics, it wouldn’t be a problem.

But he never would have imagined that Gu Yifan would choose Jinling, a place thousands of miles away where he knew no one.

”Why Jinling?”

Gu Jiaguo asked after a moment of thought.

Chen Dongmei was also very surprised by the choice of Jinling, and she couldn’t help but look toward Gu Yifan, waiting for his answer.

”This is the reason.”

Under the watchful eyes of his parents, Gu Yifan took his phone out of his pocket and handed it over.

With a confused frown, Gu Jiaguo took the phone.

He took one look.

And his brow furrowed even deeper...
