Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 143: Chapter 143: Showdown! Empress Dowager Chen: I Only Recognize Su Qinghe as My Daughter-in-law

”That’s it!”

”That’s really it!”

Gu Yifan patted his chest, answering with a look of absolute certainty.

”Hm?”

Chen Dongmei stared into his eyes, asking suspiciously, ”Really? That’s it? Are you sure, you brat?”

”I’m sure!”

Gu Yifan nodded, insisting, ”There’s really nothing more!”

”You...” Chen Dongmei was about to say more, but her husband, Gu Jiaguo, interrupted her. ”Alright, honey, stop pushing him. Our son is a grown man now, with his own ideas! We can’t control him anymore. As long as he doesn’t do anything illegal, let him do as he pleases.”

”But...”

Seeing her husband say this, Chen Dongmei thought for a moment before saying with resignation, ”Fine. Whatever. Do as you wish!”

Hearing his mom’s words, Gu Yifan quietly let out a sigh of relief.

”Hmm...”

Gu Jiaguo pondered for a moment before speaking. ”Son, I’m not against you starting a business in college. But I see you’re opening a tech company. Wouldn’t it be better to open a tech company in Capital City or Hushang?”

He paused here, then looked up at Gu Yifan and said slowly, ”So... why are you so set on going to Jinling?”

”Huh?”

Gu Yifan hadn’t expected his dad to ask this. He thought for a moment and said, ”Um... Dad, if I said I just like Jinling, would you believe me?”

”...”

Gu Jiaguo was left speechless by this answer.

After a long moment, he looked up, gave Gu Yifan a deep look, and then shook his head. ”Forget it. I won’t ask why you insist on going to Jinling. As long as you’ve thought it through, that’s what matters.”

”If you stayed cooped up here in Mountain City, your mom and I could guarantee you a safe and stable life, but you’re an adult now. It’s good for you to go out and make your own way. The path is yours to choose. No matter what you do or what decisions you make, as long as you don’t regret it, that’s enough.”

Hearing his dad’s words, Gu Yifan was touched. He said softly, ”Dad, don’t worry. I understand.”

Gu Jiaguo nodded and continued in a heartfelt tone, ”Hmm... being out on your own isn’t like being at home. You need to think twice before you act. Of course, I’m not telling you to be a pushover when you run into trouble. You need to be assertive when the situation calls for it! Just remember, no matter what happens, your mom and I will always have your back.”

Hearing this, Gu Yifan’s hands paused slightly. He felt a warmth spread through his heart.

’Yeah!’

’Home, no matter what, is always our safe harbor!’

At that moment, Gu Yifan just wanted to stand up and give his parents a big hug.

But when he heard his dad’s next words, the expression on his face froze, and his composure instantly shattered...

”Alright!”

”We’re done with that topic, so now it’s time to talk about you and Qinghe!”

’Huh?’

Gu Yifan froze for a second. He suddenly had a bad feeling.

He watched as his dad picked up his teacup, took a light sip, and then looked up to say slowly, ”You brat, when are you planning to have an engagement ceremony with Qinghe?”

Gu Yifan: ”?????”

Su Qinghe: ”?????”

The two looked at each other, their eyes filled with shock.

*WHOOSH*—Su Qinghe’s face visibly flushed scarlet.

”Dad! What nonsense are you talking about?”

Gu Yifan said, his eyes wide as he stared at his dad.

”Hm?”

Hearing this, Gu Jiaguo’s brow furrowed slightly.

He said with a serious expression, ”You brat, don’t you have any idea what I’m talking about?”

”Qinghe gave up Qingbei for you to go to Jinling together, what more do you want?”

”As a man, you need to act like one and take responsibility when it’s time!”

Gu Yifan: ”...”

He fell silent after hearing his dad’s words.

Noticing Gu Yifan’s predicament, Su Qinghe, who was beside him, spoke up. ”Uncle, please don’t blame Yifan. I’m the one who chose to go to Jinling with him. It... it has nothing to do with him.”

”Besides... we’re not dating...”

As soon as she said this, the couple, Gu Jiaguo and Chen Dongmei, both fell completely silent...

To be honest, the two of them had no idea that Su Qinghe and their son weren’t even in a relationship.

Judging by how close they were, they had both assumed the two were already together.

They just hadn’t brought it up before because of the approaching college entrance exams.

Honestly, the couple never would have imagined their son could do something so irresponsible.

’Could it be that brat Gu Yifan still has that girl Han Ning in his heart?’

’If that’s the case, then what does that make Su Qinghe?!’

’It’s completely unfair to her!’

At this thought, the couple’s expressions darkened.

For a moment, the atmosphere became tense and awkward.

”Uncle, Auntie, I’m a little tired. I’m going to my room to rest.”

Su Qinghe’s eyes were a little red as she stood up and said this softly.

”Ah?”

Chen Dongmei snapped out of it, forcing an awkward smile. ”Oh, yes, yes, of course. If you’re tired, go get some rest. Don’t worry about us!”

”Mhm.”

Su Qinghe nodded and said softly, ”Good night, Uncle, Auntie~”

With that, she turned and walked back to her room...

Watching Su Qinghe’s somewhat desolate-looking back, Chen Dongmei and her husband exchanged a look, their eyes full of guilt.

After Su Qinghe closed her bedroom door, Chen Dongmei turned to the still-silent Gu Yifan and said angrily, ”You rascal, look at the mess you’ve made!!”

Gu Yifan: ”???”

’What did I do?’

’I don’t think I did anything, did I?!’

Gu Yifan felt helpless.

”Wipe that innocent look off your face, it’s disgusting!”

Chen Dongmei said angrily, ”Let me ask you, are you still thinking about that girl Han Ning?!”

”Er...”

Gu Yifan was taken aback. He said with a helpless expression, ”I’m not.”

”You’re not?”

”You know perfectly well whether you are or not!”

”I’m asking you, if you’re still thinking about Han Ning, why did you have to go and lead Qinghe on?!”

Chen Dongmei was genuinely furious now. With a dark expression, she let loose a torrent of words at Gu Yifan.

”But...”

Gu Yifan was at a loss for words, not knowing what to say.

”Gu Yifan! Let me tell you, as your mother, I will only ever acknowledge Su Qinghe as my daughter-in-law! In the future, no matter who you bring home, if it’s not Qinghe, I won’t accept any of them!”

”And another thing!”

”Because of this mess, if Qinghe doesn’t come back to this house anymore, then you don’t have to come back either!”

”You Gu men are all the same!”

”Not a single one of you is any good!”

”Hmph!!”

Chen Dongmei’s face was dark the entire time. Her voice was agitated as she spoke in a huff.

After speaking, she stomped back to her room in a fit of anger.

Gu Jiaguo: ”...”

Gu Yifan: ”...”
