Arceus's Pirate Journey

Chapter 248: Chapter 247: You Know Too Much

The life or death of the Golden Lion doesn’t matter much to Nightin. To her, whatever the Golden Lion does is irrelevant, but his actions signify one thing: the Undersea Prison is no longer an unbreakable barrier.

Since the Golden Lion managed to become the first, there will be a second one, and the possibility of Wald’s comeback has increased.

However, she didn’t know that because of the Golden Lion’s actions, escaping would become more difficult for subsequent individuals. Previously, many heavy offenders in LV.6 only had their feet shackled, but now, their limbs would all be restrained.

Although the Golden Lion’s escape was closely related to his Float-Float Fruit, those who are locked up in LV.6 are all notorious monsters of the sea, and the World Government hopes these individuals will remain forever dormant in the dark, everlasting hell.

After all, the prisoners on this level are almost all malevolent criminals whose extremely cruel deeds have been covered up by the government, even deliberately hidden from the newspapers.

A single Golden Lion already constitutes a big problem, and another one would be disastrous.

Meanwhile, on the Sky Island pulled up by Kaidou, the scholars from Ohara continue their research. Olga is also on this Sky Island, and she still needs to learn more about the ancient text.

Translation is not just about knowing the meanings of words; grammar, word order, polysemy, and context are all closely linked to translation.

Mistakes in these areas can lead to translation results that make no sense. Some words when presented alone and when combined have completely different meanings.

For instance, ”If you never leave me, I will be with you till death do us apart.” The correct translation is ”If you do not leave me, I will stand by you through life and death,” but a literal mistranslation would be ”If you don’t leave me, I’ll perish with you.”

While Olga’s progress in ancient text is not the point for the moment, she has learned another thing: why the Ohara people would attract a Buster Call.

”Dr. Clover, do you know that saying certain things can cost lives?”

The specific incident goes back a few minutes when Clover was correcting Olga’s grammatical issues. Olga often repeated mistakes in grammar, and at this point, Clover raised a question.

”Have you heard of Alkemi?”

”What are you talking about?”

”This word and the use of this adverb — you seem accustomed to these usages when translating ancient texts. A beginner wouldn’t make these mistakes; you clearly have a certain understanding of ancient texts.

But while you understand ancient texts, it’s not the same as these ancient texts, given it’s 800 years of history, during which other ancient texts evolved.

Among them, Alkemi’s script originates from ancient texts, with certain similarities, but its grammar is significantly different, which is why I think you have some connection to Alkemi.”

Afterwards, Clover continued to correct some of Olga’s grammatical errors in her translation and continued to explain his reasoning.

”Perhaps you don’t know, as Alkemi vanished from the world more than a hundred years ago, probably leaving your teacher with only a partial understanding.”

He hadn’t linked it to this issue. He knew of Alkemi because it was also a historical island. Beyond that, he wasn’t aware. He couldn’t imagine someone living in the belly of a Sea King for over a hundred years.

And to Olga, Clover’s willingness to say anything was one reason why they drew the attention of the World Government.

After all, whether these irrelevant matters were mentioned wouldn’t change anything, yet he chose to bring them up.

....

”You should be fully aware of why you drew the Buster Call.” It’s only because this Sky Island is isolated from the outside world, or else these scholars would bring themselves more significant trouble sooner or later.

”I know, which is why I haven’t mentioned these things to the other scholars, and it’s better to tell you outright, or wouldn’t the situation be direr once you discovered the problem?”

These scholars might lack emotional intelligence, but to become the best in their field, they are far from fools. The Buster Call on Ohara had taught Clover enough of a lesson.

The mistake they made against the World Government was revealing everything or not hiding matters adequately, allowing secrets to be completely uncovered by the other side.

They cannot afford to make such a mistake again. They are legally dead, and only pirates who are also wanted can accept them, so his current approach is to hide nothing, saying everything he knows.

This Sky Island, to put it nicely, is a paradise isolated from the world; bluntly, it’s a prison for soft detention. Everything here is under the surveillance of the Hundred Beasts, and hiding things would only lead to worse consequences.

The entire Sky Island has no Radio Snails. The only communication tool they can use is Rotom, and Rotoms created by Arceus would not defy orders. The only ones they can contact from this Sky Island are the Hundred Beasts.

”That’s how it is. However, it doesn’t matter now; have you completed what we asked you to organize earlier?”

”Yes, we have. However, in the areas we have already explored, we haven’t seen the unbreakable plate you mentioned. These are unexplored areas where there may be ancient ruins; you can go there and take a look yourself.”

Maria’s drug modifications are ongoing, and Omanyte has eavesdropped on new information regarding the CP’s next steps. The Golden Lion’s escape is not good news, further escalating chaos in the sea.

Whether for retrofitting warships with Seastone or for the various prisons needing Seastone, the demand far exceeds the World Government’s reserves. The Black Market can supply some, but the process is too slow, which is why the World Government has ordered their people to contact Kaidou again.

In the past, they offered money as a trade item, continuously increasing the price. For the World Government, money is the ideal bargaining chip; they can even choose to print money lavishly to cover funding gaps.

As for the consequences, they can redirect disputes to the Non-Adhering Countries through some manipulation, as long as their own interests and those of allied nations remain unaffected, the fate of the Non-Adhering Countries doesn’t matter.

However, as Kaidou has consistently refused to trade, they have started switching trade items. They do not wish to benefit the enemy too much, ultimately taking out a batch of failed experiments from the Punk Hazard laboratory.

The Hundred Beasts Pirates continue to recruit in the New City Zone as they expand, and due to policy changes, the criteria for accepting pirates have become stricter than they originally were.

Yet, it is still evident that they require more manpower, and those experiments from the laboratory represent the World Government’s experiments on the Ancient Giant Race. They are attempting to create new Ancient Giants...
