Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

”Assault? Are you saying she was assaulted?” Ji Chuan’s ears buzzed incessantly.

He couldn’t accept Jason’s theory.

”Yes.”

”No, I can’t believe it.” Ji Chuan rejected it outright. ”Your conjecture is too arbitrary, Jason. There are still too many doubts about her. You can’t just conclude like this based on that alone!”

”Hey, hey, hey! Don’t get excited! Please, stay calm! This is just a preliminary hypothesis!” Jason hurriedly explained seeing his friend Ji Chuan get agitated, ”This is a method I use in my work: I make a hypothesis first, then verify it little by little, until either it’s confirmed or overturned.”

”Based on just this one clue, how can you make a hypothesis? Yan Huan also faints at the sight of blood, and I think that’s related to this matter too. How do you hypothesize?” Ji Chuan was somewhat impatient, almost angry.

”Don’t worry. I know she faints at the sight of blood, I’ve taken that into consideration! Compared to the stimulus of blood, I think the dust might be less of a trigger for her. Ji Chuan, I know you Chinese have a special sentiment regarding a woman’s chastity. But I hope you can set that aside for now and cooperate with my work!”

”No, you’ve misunderstood me.” Ji Chuan had studied abroad early on and received a degree of Western education.

So, he wasn’t particularly concerned about that.

What mattered to him was Yan Huan, he felt for Yan Huan, because from the pained expression on her face, he could imagine the amount of suffering she had endured.

Even if such a thing happened, the fault wasn’t Yan Huan’s.

”Ji, your little darling isn’t talking right now. Of course, I hope my hypothesis is wrong. But if she doesn’t provide more clues, then I can’t find the root cause of her condition, and naturally, I cannot treat it.” Jason said helplessly.

”Alright.” Ji Chuan rubbed his aching chest, ”Don’t worry. Even if Yan Huan doesn’t want to talk, I’ll help you find out.”

”That would be best.” Jason nodded.

Yan Huan returned from grocery shopping.

As Ji Chuan opened the door and saw Yan Huan again, his mood was completely different from before.

He couldn’t help but show a protective and affectionate look in his eyes, a deep desire from within to care for her, to cherish her, to hold her and warm her.

”Ji Chuan, are you going to let me in?” Yan Huan said with a smile as she saw him blocking the doorway.

”Oh.” Ji Chuan looked down and saw Yan Huan had bought a lot of groceries, chicken, duck, fish, and meat—all of it, ”You must’ve spent a lot of money? Let me pay you back.”

As Ji Chuan reached into his pocket for money, Yan Huan quickly stopped him, ”No, no need! You don’t have to give me money, I don’t need it.”

”How can that be?”

”Why not? Jason is treating me without charging a consultation fee, so what’s wrong with me buying some things? Don’t argue with me over this, or I’ll be unhappy.” Yan Huan said.

”Alright then.” Ji Chuan smiled slightly, ”Thank you for your hard work.”

”It’s no trouble. Let’s continue talking.” Yan Huan turned and walked towards the kitchen in Ji Chuan’s home.

In the living room, Jason and Ji Chuan were still discussing some psychology examples, which Yan Huan didn’t understand, so she went to the kitchen alone to prepare dinner.

Preparing dinner was one of Yan Huan’s major weaknesses.

She had never cooked at home. It was always her mother, Feng Yuzhi, who prepared the meals. She was pampered like a princess from a young age...
