Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2444: Chapter 2437: Seeking the Cause of Illness

”Are you afraid of something? Like walking alone at night? Or going on a mission...” Ji Chuan was prompting her.

”No,” Yan Huan denied.

”Ji Chuan, that’s not how it is,” Jason began to explain, ”The formation of her illness must be related to certain events. She must have been stimulated by something, and though this stimulus has disappeared over the years, a conditioned reflex in her body has formed.”

”Conditioned reflex?” Ji Chuan didn’t quite understand.

After all, his field of expertise was not psychology.

He had studied abroad for many years and only heard about it, but his concept of psychological illness was still vague, only because of his contact with Jason.

When he couldn’t find any illness in Yan Huan, he began to wonder if it was related to her psychology.

That’s why he thought of Jason.

”Yes.” Jason thought for a moment and then said earnestly to Yan Huan, ”Yan Huan, I’m going to ask a few questions. These questions are related to your condition. You must tell the truth.”

”Okay. I’ll definitely cooperate well. Jason, go ahead,” Yan Huan, initially resistant, had now turned cooperative.

”Good.” Jason nodded, pleased with Yan Huan’s attitude since patients with psychological issues often have unusual pasts.

These past experiences might have harmed them, making them very wary of psychologists.

If they don’t see a psychologist, the condition can’t be alleviated and will severely affect their life, so they’re compelled to seek psychological help.

It’s a very contradictory situation, yet it does indeed exist.

”Now, please listen to my first question. Under what circumstances do you have an asthma attack? Think about it carefully,” Jason said.

”What circumstances?” Yan Huan immediately responded with an answer she often gave, the most obvious one, ”Leaving Nancheng! As long as I leave Nancheng, I’ll definitely have asthma.”

”Not detailed enough,” Jason said, ”Do you have an asthma attack every time you leave this city?”

”No! Not entirely,” Yan Huan thought, unable to find any regular pattern.

Seeing her struggling to answer, Jason reminded her again more deeply, ”Maybe it’s related to the weather? You don’t have an attack on sunny days, but do on cloudy days?”

”No, it isn’t,” Yan Huan denied, ”I’ve had attacks on both sunny and cloudy days.”

”Then, describe what the situations are like when you have an attack,” Jason said as he drew out a sheet of paper from Ji Chuan’s desk and picked up a pen to start taking notes.

He wanted to find the problem from these records.

”I have an attack every time I leave Nancheng,” Yan Huan recalled, ”I have attacks on sunny days and cloudy days, anytime, anywhere, without any warning. But, it seems that every time I have an attack, there’s wind!”

Yan Huan recounted each of her attacks, and indeed, as she said, there was always wind.

Ji Chuan listened attentively, meanwhile, in his mind, he was reflecting on the situation when she last had an attack in front of him.

”Yes, it indeed is as you said!” Jason nodded repeatedly, ”You’ve recounted over thirty attacks, and each time, it is related to the wind. Then, the cause of your condition must be related to the wind.”
