Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2414: Chapter 2407: Just Look at You—So Unambitious

”Mom, look at this meal you’ve made. It’s tasteless, not even a trace of meat! You feeding rabbits or what?” Liu Chengcai complained.

”Just make do and eat a little. Your dad hasn’t been back for a month, there’s been no money in the house for a long time. Without money, what can I use to buy food for you?” Liu Qiaoqiao took a deep breath of the rich aroma of meat in the air and smacked her lips a few times.

”Mom, didn’t you say last time that the kid from the officer’s family next door ate at our place, and then the officer gave us two bags of flour? This time, join in the fun over there, I think they wouldn’t let you come back empty-handed, right?” Liu Chengcai suggested.

”You brat. Already twelve or thirteen, and all you think about is food! Look at your limited ambition!” Liu Qiaoqiao pointed at her son’s forehead and scolded, but her legs and feet unconsciously started moving.

”Hehe! I’m just taking after you, aren’t I?” Liu Chengcai chuckled awkwardly.

”Hmpf! I’m way more hardworking than you!” Liu Qiaoqiao scolded him twice, put down her chopsticks, and headed straight to the yard next door.

He Fusheng’s house.

Liang Xiuzhu was setting two low dining tables together in the yard, then started bringing out dishes from the kitchen. Today, she made seven or eight dishes at once: locust flower fish noodles, scrambled eggs with green onions, stewed ribs, vinegar potato shreds, stir-fried spinach, and so on.

The colors of the dishes were so vibrant, just looking at them would make anyone hungry.

”Come, come, come! Kids, sit down too.” He Fusheng was in a good mood today, he specially brought out the Moutai liquor Qin Jian gave him, ”Brother Qin, you’re really something. I didn’t know this liquor was so expensive, I just knew it tasted good, so I took the two bottles you shoved at me. But then those who’ve been out working and seen the world told me this liquor is quite pricey!”

”As long as Brother He enjoys it, it doesn’t matter if it’s pricey or not.” Qin Jian pursed his lips, showing a faint smile.

”I can tell, Brother Qin, you’re a decent person! Come, today the old brother will drink a few with you.”

”Alright! Anyone who can drink, join in today! It’s rare to be this cheerful!” It’s been almost a year, and he hasn’t had many carefree days.

Seeing his son’s condition greatly improve, Qin Jian’s mood lightened considerably.

”Come on! Cheers!”

The meal in the yard was lively, when Liu Qiaoqiao pushed open the gate and came in.

The aroma in this yard was truly mouthwatering, even during New Year’s the meal might not be this lavish.

She hadn’t eaten meat in a long time, thinking about this made Liu Qiaoqiao’s heart even more eager, she walked forward with a smile and said loudly, ”Oh! Aren’t these Chenguang’s parents? No wonder it’s so lively here.”

”You’re Liu...” An Hao had seen her before, but couldn’t recall immediately.

”Liu Qiaoqiao. I live right next door! When Chenguang first came, he even ate at our house!” Liu Qiaoqiao let out a series of giggles, ”You see, you forgot, didn’t you?”

”Sorry about that, so... would you like to sit down?” An Hao stood up, since she had helped her son before, she wanted to return the favor.

A drop of water in kindness should be rewarded with a gush in return, An Hao had always remembered this saying all her life.

”Alright, sure!” Liu Qiaoqiao had been waiting for this invitation.

”There’s no space left. This is as big as it gets!” He Fusheng, upon seeing her, looked a bit displeased, but still politely refused.

”Sit here with me!” An Hao was about to offer a seat but was held back by Liang Xiuzhu grabbing her wrist.
