Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2429: Chapter 2422: Serves You Right, No Help for You!

He Fusheng had to go to the fields in the afternoon and was sitting in the yard organizing his farm tools.

Liang Xiuzhu was in the kitchen helping him prepare water and fruit to take to the field.

”He Fusheng!” Liu Qiaoqiao knocked on the door, pushed it open, and walked in. Seeing He Fusheng busy in the yard, she plastered a smile on her face and said, ”Fusheng, it seems like my chimney is blocked. It won’t vent outside and the smoke is pouring into the house. Could you take a look for me?”

He Fusheng had heard Liu Qiaoqiao cursing all morning in the yard and understood the situation thoroughly.

”No!” he promptly refused.

”What? No?” Liu Qiaoqiao raised an eyebrow, ready to lose her temper, but remembering she was asking for a favor, she softened her tone, ”Why not? Come on, we’re neighbors. Even if we have conflicts and frictions, once they’re over, they’re over. Let’s not dwell on them, okay?”

”Hmph.” He Fusheng sneered.

Liu Qiaoqiao spoke as if it were easy, but every time there was a conflict, it was the He Family that suffered. The Liu Family was always unreasonable and benefited from the situation.

Now that Liu Qiaoqiao had bullied others enough, she was asking for help when in trouble.

”He Fusheng, have a little compassion, will you? Look, Old Liu isn’t home, and it’s just me and the kids. This chimney problem, none of us know how to deal with it! So we have no choice but to ask for your help! We see each other often; let’s not ruin our relationship, don’t you think?”

”You’ve already said everything good and bad there is to say! What else can I say?” He Fusheng stood up and turned to go into the house, ”You don’t have to say anything else; I won’t help you with this!”

”Hey, why are you being so stubborn? We’re neighbors; why don’t you have any compassion?” Liu Qiaoqiao followed him, heading towards the house.

”Liu Qiaoqiao, you don’t need to say anything. You should go back!” Liang Xiuzhu, unable to listen any longer, came out of the kitchen and stopped Liu Qiaoqiao, ”Even if you’re making fun of someone, you don’t do it like this! You stole from us yesterday and even fought with me. Now you need help and come asking for it. If we don’t help you, you claim we lack compassion! Yes, we indeed lack compassion! Now, please leave!”

”Hey, I...” Liu Qiaoqiao was about to curse in anger,

when she saw He Fusheng come out of the house with a basin of water from washing his hands and splash it outside.

She quickly dodged, avoiding getting her clothes wet.

”What’s wrong with you? Are you going to help or not?” Liu Qiaoqiao was furious.

”No help!”

”No help!”

He Fusheng and Liang Xiuzhu said in unison.

”Fine, no help then!” Liu Qiaoqiao spat angrily on the ground, ”Bah! Who do you think you are! Don’t come to me for help in the future either!”

”Rest assured, I won’t!”

”Not only this lifetime, but I won’t need you even in the next!”

Liu Qiaoqiao felt only embarrassment and had to return home.

The chimney remained unrepaired, and she was left in a bad mood.

In the end, she had no choice.

She had to pay to hire a mason from the village to dismantle and rebuild her chimney, only then discovering the problem.

It turned out someone had indeed blocked her chimney with a pile of rotting firewood and straw.

Those who knew her gossiped behind her back, saying she deserved it.
