Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2435: Chapter 2428: This Is the Path You Chose

”Have you considered my feelings?” Cheng Yue looked down at his father, whose temples had turned gray. ”What’s wrong with Yan Huan? She’s a woman of genuine character! I just like her straightforwardness!”

”She’s older than you!”

”So what in the future?” If there is true love, what does being a few years older matter?

”Kid, let me just tell you straight. Yan Huan’s strange illness will eventually become your burden and your load! You can blame me for being an unkind mother. But it’s because I care about my son, and there’s nothing wrong with that, right?”

”I knew about her illness from the start. I am powerless against her illness. The only thing I can do is stay in Nancheng. Wherever she is, that’s where I’ll be. I don’t care about her illness, if she lives, I’ll live with her. If she dies...”

”What will you do if she dies?” Cheng Nanfang stared intently at Cheng Yue’s face, his hands trembling, ready to slap his son’s face at any moment.

”Yuyu, you should not follow your sister’s path!” Qi Siyuan’s eyes reddened, tears rolling down her cheeks, ”Why are you and your sister so stubborn? Others know not to keep going after hitting a wall, but you two don’t know how to turn back even after hitting it!”

”If I’m stubborn, it’s inherited.” Cheng Yue seemed to return to the days when he argued with his father every day, making his father furious.

”Answer the question!” Cheng Nanfang suppressed his anger, ”If she dies, what will you do?”

”I’ll live out the rest of my life alone!” Cheng Yue fearlessly stared into his father’s eyes and said, ”I cannot die. Even if the rest of my life is dull and uninteresting, I cannot follow her in death. Because, I still have you. My sister chose to end her life, I cannot let you experience the pain of losing a son in your old age.”

”Yuyu, your words are a knife to your mother’s heart.” Qi Siyuan clutched her heart, crying in pain, ”At first, we really weren’t thinking of you. We were thinking of your grandparents. Now that they’ve all passed away, we can move to Nancheng. But, have you thought about whether Yan Huan’s illness will allow her to have children in the future? If you two have no children, who will take care of you when you’re old?”

”So, just because of this, you want me to give up my love?” Cheng Yue said painfully, ”Mom, please go back. Go back to Jiangning! My whole life has been arranged by you! Why do you think I didn’t choose to go to the National Defense University when I was eighteen, and instead applied to Military Medical University? It’s because I didn’t want to be arranged by you for my entire life! I have finally become an adult, and I have the right to choose my own path now. So, Dad, Mom, I’m sorry, no matter what you say, I still want to be willful for my own love just this once.”

Cheng Nanfang looked at his son’s stubborn face, it was so much like his own when he was young.

Who hasn’t been young?

Who hasn’t been moved?

”Sigh---!” he let out a long sigh, parents unable to defeat their son in the end, ”Cheng Yue, this path is your own choice, don’t regret it in the future!”

”I don’t regret it! Absolutely not!”

”Alright. Your mom and I will go back to Jiangning tomorrow.” Cheng Nanfang finally relented, ”I will not interfere in your love life anymore. If you finally decide to truly choose Yan Huan, we’ll move the whole family.”
