I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 246: Chapter 245: Slander

Zhang Meili was utterly humiliated by Beisitian’s comment, ”A person talks and a dog interrupts,” and spent the entire day fuming, her expression extremely unsightly.

”That young girl is really too awful. How could she say something like that to you? After all, you’re a veteran of the health team. For her to say such things is basically treating you with no respect!” Zhang Hui Ping exclaimed indignantly.

Luo Jiali lowered her gaze, afraid of someone fanning the flames by her ear. It’s truly like watching a spectacle with no fear of things getting out of hand. These two people seem close, but in reality, it’s just that way. They’d talk about this and that together when things are fine, but when something actually happens, they’d probably run away faster than anyone else.

Ding Sisi stayed silent on the side because she’s not foolish. Helping to fan the flames at this moment would just aggravate tensions, and when Zhang Meili realized it, she’d undoubtedly hate her altogether. However, if she offered comfort, she’d offend Zhang Hui Ping, so she might as well stay silent.

Zhang Hui Ping fueled the fire on the side, making Zhang Meili feel increasingly uneasy. A little Chinese doctor, and still a medical assistant, yet the moment she arrived, she made Sister Yu leave in anger and still hasn’t started working. Now she’s poking her nose into her business. Does she think there’s no one left in the health team?

But at that time, Shen Junping stepped in and took her away. If she tried to continue the conflict now, it would seem weak, and people might think she’s slow to react. However, the more she couldn’t get revenge, the more her anger grew.

Zhang Meili couldn’t find a better way at the moment. She wanted to use sarcasm but was afraid Beisitian would retaliate on the spot, leaving her embarrassed again.

That little Chinese doctor may be young, but her tongue is sharp. Zhang Meili truly lacked the confidence to react quickly and counter her.

Zhang Meili could only bide her time, waiting for the right opportunity to properly deal with that little Chinese doctor, Beisitian!

Since she’s still a medical assistant, Beisitian didn’t have night shifts yet. When the time came, she went back to the dormitory. By the time she returned, Luo Xudong hadn’t come back yet.

The market here is usually open in the morning, and Beisitian had already bought groceries in the morning. When she got home, she was ready to start cooking.

Today, Beisitian made steamed crucian carp, stir-fried cauliflower with meat slices, and also made a cold dish of century egg tofu, along with half a pot of fried tofu soup, and the staple food was steamed buns.

Luo Xudong smelled the delicious aroma as soon as he entered the house. The food in the cafeteria was far inferior to Beisitian’s cooking.

After eating Beisitian’s cooking, he had no appetite for the cafeteria food at all. If it weren’t for needing energy for training in the afternoon, he probably wouldn’t eat it at all.

”Next time, wait for me to come back, and we can cook together,” Luo Xudong said.

”What’s wrong?” Beisitian asked as she set the table.

”You’ve worked the whole day, and then you have to come home and cook for me. It’s too tiring.” Luo Xudong reached out and gently pinched her soft cheek, his eyes full of affection.

Beisitian smiled with her lips closed. She had to admit, Luo Xudong might appear aloof and strict in the eyes of others, but at home, he was very considerate. After meals, he would take the initiative to wash the dishes. Like just now, his words weren’t meant to coax Beisitian; he genuinely felt that way.

”It’s just cooking; it’s not that tiring,” Beisitian replied with a slight smile.

Luo Xudong watched her take off her apron and sit down opposite him, a gentle smile on his face, ”Are you tired tonight?”

Pfft, talking about this and suddenly it’s not serious anymore!

Beisitian glared at him playfully, ”It’s a piece of cake; how would I be tired!”

”Then I should give it my all!”

”Not even eating can shut your mouth!” Beisitian teased him with a playful look.

The two of them laughed and teased each other for a while.

Luo Xudong asked, ”Is everything going well at the health team?” He looked over at Beisitian, as he’d heard some unfavorable comments about her at the military base.

”It’s okay,” Beisitian didn’t want to say much.

Luo Xudong observed her calm expression, his smile slightly faded, ”You’re not alone anymore. You can tell me anything.”

Beisitian realized he might have heard something. No matter what it was, it wasn’t beneficial to her, so she smiled and said, ”It’s just small stuff, nothing for you to worry about.”

Luo Xudong looked at her in silence.

Seeing this, Beisitian shook her head with a soft laugh, ”I’m not a child. If I can’t handle these things, how can I manage? Besides, how they act and what they say doesn’t bother me at all.”

The people she didn’t care about didn’t have much impact on her emotions, no matter what they did.

Seeing her not appearing to lie, Luo Xudong felt a bit more at ease. Earlier at the military base, he’d heard someone bad-mouthing Beisitian, saying her medical skills were lacking, and she was arrogant in the health team, to the point she made the veterans not want to work. In his anger, he took the person to a secluded spot and gave them a beating...

Afterward, one of his soldiers handled it by cornering the person and threatening them not to report it, saying that if they did, they’d beaten up every time he saw them. Luo Xudong was a hero returning in honor, so this incident wouldn’t affect him much.

The person knew what those soldiers said was true. Luo Xudong hit him for bad-mouthing his wife. Reporting it wouldn’t earn him any support, so he could only consider himself unlucky!

Of course, Luo Xudong wouldn’t tell Beisitian about this incident, but he felt a bit unhappy inside. He could beat up those gossipy soldiers but couldn’t just storm into the health team and beat everyone up.

Seeing his worry, Beisitian placed a piece of fish without bones into his mouth, ”Don’t worry, I won’t let this situation continue.”

Watching Beisitian with a smile as bright as a flower, Luo Xudong could only trust her and obediently eat the piece of fish, then opened his mouth again.

Seeing this, a mischievous glint flashed in Beisitian’s eyes. She quickly stuffed a slice of ginger into Luo Xudong’s mouth, her smile deepening as she watched Luo Xudong close his mouth, looking at him with an expressionless face, making her burst into laughter.

Luo Xudong ended up eating the slice of ginger.

”How’s that ginger slice?”

”It’s okay, kind of sweet with a hint of sourness,” Luo Xudong reminisced.

Beisitian saw his serious expression and would’ve believed he was being truthful if she didn’t know he was joking.

”Your skill in joking with a straight face is truly remarkable,” Beisitian praised with a thumbs up.

”I have even more refined skills, and you know them better than I do,” Luo Xudong’s smile deepened, and his gaze towards Beisitian became more profound.

Beisitian blushed, glared at him, and got up to clear the dishes.

Luo Xudong stood up, moved behind her, and wrapped his arms around her slender waist, resting his chin on her neck, gently inhaling the fragrance emanating from her body. This scent belonged solely to her.

”Let’s take care of business first; I’ll clean up later.” With that, Luo Xudong lifted her up and headed towards the inner room.

Beisitian bashfully buried her face in his broad chest, the masculinity radiating from him dizzying her, causing her breathing to become irregular and slow.

The night was dim and beautiful, with their low whispers carried by the night breeze, adding a touch of warmth.
