I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 240: Chapter 239: Little Chinese Doctor

After Yu Shufang ran off, she didn’t come back, and for two days, she didn’t show up. It was only after Doctor Sun returned that he learned Yu Shufang had taken sick leave.

The so-called sick leave - no one actually believed it. Being a doctor herself and working in the medical squad, if she were really sick, she wouldn’t avoid such a convenient place close by. Why would she run elsewhere for treatment?

The real reason was definitely because Beisitian had angered her!

The events of that day, Beisitian never mentioned a word about them. Qi Xiu Hui was hesitant and couldn’t articulate anything clearly. Shen Junping, aside from sighing, could only manage a bitter smile. He felt he’d been wronged by Beisitian, so how would he be willing to speak up?

This matter became a secret within the third clinic!

After Doctor Sun learned of the situation, at first, he remained silent. When Yu Shufang didn’t show up on the third day, he called Beisitian for a talk.

”Xiao Bei, what exactly happened that day?” Sun Wangnian was somewhat helpless. Although Beisitian studied Chinese medicine and he knew she was competent in it, especially in acupuncture, if her character was questionable, that would be troublesome.

Sun Wangnian didn’t know Beisitian well, and he hoped she wasn’t someone with ideological problems. Because if she was that kind of person, it would prove that the respected teacher was wrong about her. He had always trusted the teacher’s judgment and character.

Beisitian remained silent. Previously, she naturally wouldn’t have concealed anything, but when Ma Xiuli revealed the reasons behind Yu Shufang’s medical secrecy, she also kept quiet. Moreover, even though Sun Wangnian was older, he was still a man, and discussing this would be inconvenient.

But since Sun Wangnian had already reached out for a conversation, it showed he already had suspicions and dissatisfaction. If she said nothing, she feared she couldn’t stay in the medical squad anymore.

”Doctor Sun, I’m not deliberately hiding it, but this matter is a private issue for the doctor. She doesn’t want others to know,” Beisitian said after some deliberation.

Sun Wangnian’s graying eyebrows furrowed slightly, ”Private?”

Beisitian nodded.

Sun Wangnian thought of Ma Xiuli requesting sick leave for Yu Shufang, coupled with the mention of privacy, and he vaguely guessed what the issue was.

Ma Xiuli and Yu Shufang always had a good relationship. During Ma Xiuli’s internship, Yu Shufang was her mentor, and the two shared a mentor-apprentice bond. So if Ma Xiuli helped with the request, it must be genuine.

”You young folks may have your tussles, but don’t create too much of a negative impact. Now, the entire medical squad is discussing this matter. Even if I’m competent, I can’t stop all the talk, and I can only prevent it from spreading further,” said Sun Wangnian.

Beisitian nodded. This issue indeed arose because of her assumptions. She thought women here could already openly address such ailments, which is why she mentioned it in front of Qi Xiu Hui and Shen Junping. Fortunately, she didn’t explicitly state it.

Seeing Beisitian lower her gaze, Sun Wangnian assumed she understood. Since the old general recommended her, he didn’t want her to work in a hostile environment, so he called her to clarify. If it were someone else, he might not have cared, letting them handle it themselves. Whoever left didn’t matter to him.

”Thank you, Doctor Sun.” Beisitian smiled faintly, understanding Sun Wangnian’s intention to support her privately.

”You can go now. I’ll ask Yu about the situation,” Sun Wangnian signaled she could leave, noting he still needed to inquire with Ma Xiuli.

After Beisitian left, just as Sun Wangnian was about to make a call, the phone rang. He picked it up and, unexpectedly, it was Ma Xiuli.

”Xiao Ma...” Before Sun Wangnian could speak, he heard sobbing on the other end, and his heart sank, ”What’s the matter? Speak slowly.”

”Director Sun, is the Little Chinese Doctor there?”

”The Little Chinese Doctor? You mean Xiao Bei?”

”Yes, it’s her! Is she there or not?” Ma Xiuli’s tone was impatient.

Sun Wangnian’s first instinct was that something happened to Yu Shufang and it was connected to Beisitian, and Ma Xiuli was about to seek revenge!

”She is here. Don’t be impulsive. Whatever’s bothering you, talk it over calmly. Don’t let anger lead to...” Sun Wangnian’s words were cut off as the phone abruptly hung up.

Holding the receiver, Sun Wangnian stood stupefied for a moment, considering whether to alert Beisitian, letting her know she should possibly hide somewhere.

With her fiery temperament, Ma Xiuli could sometimes be more volatile than Yu Shufang. If Yu Shufang’s temperament stemmed from familial circumstances, Ma Xiuli’s was innate.

Sun Wangnian was about to go downstairs to inform Beisitian when the phone rang again. There were only two phones in the medical squad, and apart from the squad and the military knowing this number, no one frequently called it. What was going on today?

He answered the call, listened to the query on the other end, and nodded, ”Yes, it’s me. Who’s speaking?”

The unknown voice said something that made Sun Wangnian’s expression change drastically, ”How could that be? When did it happen?”

”Alright, I’ll head to the Capital City immediately!”

Placing the phone down, a deep frown formed on Sun Wangnian’s face. How could something have happened to the mentor... No longer concerned with the disputes among the younger folks, he hurriedly packed his belongings, instructed Shen Junping, and left the station.

After heading downstairs, Beisitian continued to sit beside Qi Xiu Hui. Occasionally, patients came for consultations, most of whom were military family members. In the station, they seemed to be the group with relatively weaker health.

Shen Junping, glancing at the empty chair opposite, where Yu Shufang usually sat, sighed frequently, and his look towards Beisitian was no longer as amicable as before.

Though the staff in the doctor’s office didn’t deliberately make things difficult for Beisitian, neither did they show any warmth. Unanimously, they excluded her, treating her as invisible, whether dining or engaging in other activities, thus subjecting her to cold-shouldering.

If one’s heart wasn’t strong enough, enduring such a cold, occasionally sneering, and disdainful environment would be impossible. But Beisitian, for her part, seemed unaffected, continuing her life as if nothing had occurred.

Now, only Qi Xiu Hui consistently spoke gently with her, explaining things about the medical squad. When a patient needed attention, particularly requiring simple equipment checks, she would explain in detail.

Given the circumstances in the medical squad, Qi Xiu Hui was probably the only person still speaking to her.

Beisitian appeared seemingly unaffected by those around her, maintaining an independent air.

”Is she really as indifferent as she seems? Who knows!” Ding Sisi scoffed, ”Everyone despises her to this extent, just stop pretending. Pack up and leave already.”

Luo Jiali also shook her head, saying, ”To end up like this in just a few days is truly pitiful!”
