I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 226: Chapter 225: Medical Corps (Monthly Tickets 760+)

Isn’t Deputy Squad Leader Luo’s wife said to be someone who just came from the countryside? But looking at Beisitian, her attire indeed seems rural, yet her beautiful face and demeanor are no less than those artistic soldiers from the cultural troop!

Their luggage isn’t much; a little tidying and it’s almost done. Li Shuzhen prepared to buy some groceries to cook dinner, and asked if Beisitian wanted to join her.

Beisitian thought that since she would be living here, it’s best to adapt to the environment quickly. It’s ideal to get familiar with the surroundings while someone guides her, so she nodded in agreement.

Beisitian put her things down and went out with Li Shuzhen.

”You’re really a warm-hearted person,” Beisitian said with a smile. In such a foreign environment, a little sweetness never hurts, moreover, she wasn’t lying; Li Shuzhen seemed genuinely warm-hearted.

Besides, she heard Luo Xudong mention that the eighth and ninth companies are sibling companies, and their relationship is quite good.

Everyone appreciates kind words, and upon hearing them, Li Shuzhen’s smile deepened, ”I liked you from the moment I saw you, we are destined to be friends. If you have anything unclear, feel free to ask me,” Li Shuzhen smiled.

On the way to buy groceries, Li Shuzhen indeed shared many tips with her. Their restrictions as dependents are quite minimal, allowing free access, but it’s important to register when entering or leaving the military base, a point Li Shuzhen reminded Beisitian not to forget.

”You can cook for yourself if you want, or if you’re feeling lazy, you can eat at the canteen. However, most of the dependents cook for themselves since there’s a man at home,” Li Shuzhen said.

”Actually, there’s not much to worry about. We’re not like the men; we don’t need to be on duty or leave early and return late. As long as we don’t break the rules, we have quite the freedom.”

”By the way, get your household registration done these days. As military dependents, you can register under a town household. Additionally, if you don’t find employment, you’ll receive a monthly stipend of fifteen. For those pursuing self-employment, there’s a tax reduction on business tax. Once you settle down, you can inquire more.”

Beisitian nodded to remember, and Li Shuzhen, seeing her listen attentively, shared more as they chatted their way back to the family housing.

Just as they entered the building, a duty-room aunt called out to Beisitian.

”Are you from Deputy Squad Leader Luo’s family?” The large, built aunt, her face layered with plumpness, stopping Beisitian.

”Yes.” Beisitian stopped walking.

”Aunt Wu, is there something for Xiao Bei?” Li Shuzhen smiled and asked.

Aunt Wu glanced at her, nodded, and focusing again on Beisitian, said, ”Deputy Squad Leader Luo sent a message through someone, he’s been assigned a task; he’ll be back in a week at the shortest, or ten days at the longest.”

Beisitian was slightly taken aback, immediately tasked upon arrival?

This mission must be related to an emergency recall, right?

”Thank you for informing me, Aunt Wu.” Beisitian thanked politely, and went up with Li Shuzhen.

Li Shuzhen noticed her slight daze and comforted, ”Don’t mind it, the military is just like that, suddenly deploying for missions. Sometimes, field exercises take several days. After a while, you’ll get used to it.”

Understanding that Beisitian, having just become a dependent, might feel unfamiliar with various aspects, Li Shuzhen explained a bit more.

”Won’t there be any danger, Sister?” Beisitian inquired.

At her words, Li Shuzhen laughed heartily, ”What times do we live in now? There won’t be any danger, don’t worry.”

Beisitian sighed in relief at this reassurance, thankful there’s no danger involved.

”Xiao Bei, don’t cook tonight, it’s just you. Come have dinner at my place,” Li Shuzhen invited warmly.

Beisitian offered a gentle smile, ”No thank you, Sister. It’s my first day here, might as well organize some more. Once I settle, I’ll invite you over for dinner.”

”That sounds good, I’ll head back then,” Li Shuzhen didn’t insist, picked up her groceries, and returned home.

Beisitian closed the door, and despite having met Li Shuzhen right away, she hadn’t thoroughly looked around the two rooms.

The outer room was simply equipped, with a set of tables and chairs, a wall cabinet for items, nothing more.

The inner room was similarly simple: a bed barely qualifying as a double bed, two blankets, and a simple wardrobe, plus a desk.

The items here appear to be military supplies, Beisitian noticed there were numbers on the basin and thermos. However, according to Li Shuzhen, one can buy their own items, though most opt for military supplies for their durability, and each household is equipped with one free set. If broken, you must purchase replacements yourself.

Observing the numbers, Beisitian assumed they probably belonged to the free set issued.

The kitchen was small, only allowing one person to turn around, though Li Shuzhen said it was quite good compared to some places where quarters lack such conveniences, where relatives use a communal restroom in the courtyard and cook meals in the corridors.

Despite its modest size, having a kitchen to cook and a separate bathroom, with a little tidying, the bathroom can double for bathing, making it quite convenient.

Li Shuzhen explained that this arrangement was due to their husbands’ higher rank. Most soldiers use community shower facilities and eat at the canteen.

Discussing such privileges, Li Shuzhen was undoubtedly proud.

In the evening, Beisitian made a simple meal and began pondering plans for the future.

Li Shuzhen mentioned about tax reductions for self-employment opportunities, quite appealing given that even cooperative savings here require tax; any exemption is alluring.

However, lacking business acumen and not fond of stereotypical employment, despite its allure, Beisitian didn’t consider searching for a job, merely pondering at such provisions.

Household registration issues can be handled by the unit; all required documents were arranged upon submitting the marriage application, sparing Beisitian the worry.

There’s no rush to visit the health squad, preferring to familiarize with the environment first.

In the unfamiliar setting, Beisitian awoke around five or six in the morning, hearing the vague sound of reveille, as soldiers were rising early for exercises.

After immediate washes, she stepped out, intending to acquaint herself alone with Luo Xudong absent.

Outside, soldiers were seen marching in orderly formations, their strides sounded uniformly synchronized.

She took a walk around the nearby two family buildings before heading upstairs, threw together a bowl of noodle soup for breakfast.

After breakfast, she ventured out again.

The station was sizable; merely covering half of it took the entire morning, excluding exercise fields. Unexpectedly, she discovered the health squad’s location.

The structure was a small two-story building, marked by a conspicuous red cross, predominantly white-themed, with doctors inside wearing white coats.

Tentatively, Beisitian raised her legs and walked in.
