I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 237: Chapter 236: Overthinking the Future (Second Update, Please Support)

Beisitian also realized that Qi Xiu Hui held little status in the medical team. Regardless of her skill level, just by virtue of her timid nature, she was bound to be bullied.

Whether or not Qi Xiu Hui is a quack, these people equate traditional Chinese medicine with quackery, which left Beisitian feeling quite disheartened. While Western medical knowledge is worth learning, one must not forget their roots!

Traditional Chinese medicine is broad and profound; although it might not be as fast-acting as Western medicine, it can cure certain illnesses completely with relatively fewer side effects!

As Beisitian looked at people in white coats with smiles on their faces, she found their smiles to be unpleasant for the first time.

Even the Mystic Doctors like them are based on traditional Chinese medicine. Their strongest reliance is on spirit, and without the nourishment of various Chinese herbs, they are no different from ordinary people, unable to perform Spiritual Pointing to form talismans, thus unable to heal.

And many of the Xuan Talismans they create require herbal assistance to achieve better effects, so Beisitian claims to be a traditional Chinese doctor because her foundation is in traditional Chinese medicine.

In matters like this, arguments are meaningless. Since they equate traditional Chinese medicine with quackery, let them get a good understanding of its classics.

Moreover, these people were whispering among themselves; speaking out rashly would only put her at a disadvantage.

”Don’t mind it too much.” Qi Xiu Hui said softly to Beisitian with an apologetic look, clearly feeling bad because her presence also brought Beisitian under such cold and mocking gazes.

Beisitian gave a faint smile. They were just whispers, so of course, she wouldn’t care. What concerned her was the phenomenon reflected in these whispers.

This kind of cultural invasion and infiltration is the most terrifying.

While Western medicine works very quickly, it also consumes the body’s resources. As people’s pace of life accelerates, they don’t have the time or energy to maintain their health, thinking that being free of illness and pain is enough. Little do they know the substantial damage this causes to the body. This damage might not show early, but it becomes evident in middle to later years.

Some side effects accelerate not only the aging of appearance but also the aging of the internal organs, and that’s the most frightening!

When the time came, the doctors started to trickle out. Because the medical team’s overall area isn’t large, three doctors share one examination room. During seasonal flu outbreaks, the room can become quite bustling.

October marks the changing seasons, and most visitors are military spouses and civilian staff. Compared to soldiers who often train, their physical constitution is weaker. Once someone gets sick, it can easily spread around them.

This place isn’t like hospitals where you have to register because, after all, the staff is limited, and so are the sick. People would just enter the empty examination room, and if there were many patients, a front desk nurse would help guide them.

The doctor accompanying Ding Sisi was named Zhang Meili. She ushered Ding Sisi downstairs and said to Zhang Hui Ping: ”We’re quite lucky to have medical assistants from special recruit schools, at least they’re not studying traditional Chinese medicine.”

Zhang Hui Ping covered her mouth and laughed, ”At least we can communicate. Otherwise, you mention Aspirin, and they talk about Sanqi and Huangqi, who can handle that.”

”Doctor Xiao Hui is talented, let her take on more duties.” Zhang Meili laughed.

”Indeed, we usually let her handle minor illnesses like colds and fevers, for her own good, so she doesn’t feel guilty when payday comes.” Zhang Hui Ping giggled.

In front of their two intern medical assistants, the two doctors didn’t hesitate to disparage Qi Xiu Hui, viewed by other doctors as a common occurrence. Qi Xiu Hui really had poor skills; she didn’t dare handle even minor surgeries.

It’d be forgivable if others refused, but she is from a surgical background, yet didn’t dare to perform surgeries!

Sharing the same office, some doctors felt contempt for Zhang Hui Ping and Zhang Meili’s behavior, but given the social nature of the atmosphere, no one would stand up for others. As long as the gossip wasn’t about them, it didn’t concern them. Even when it’s about themselves, as long as they didn’t hear it directly, they’d just pretend it wasn’t said.

It was Zhang Hui Ping and Zhang Meili who egged Doctor Shen to have Qi Xiu Hui lead the Little Chinese Doctor, earning them the nickname ”gossiping Zhang twins.”

These two could gossip and badmouth others all morning without taking a sip of water.

Despite being gossipmongers often badmouthing others, damaging a doctor’s image, they weren’t widely disliked in the office, because they knew how to manage things, fetching water and reserving cafeteria seats for everyone.

Doing this day in and day out, any dissatisfaction doesn’t get voiced.

On the contrary, Qi Xiu Hui, who moved about quietly and independently, gradually gained resentment from people initially indifferent to her because of the gossiping Zhang twins.

Every circle is a small society, and the little medical team is no different.

Beisitian, unfamiliar with Qi Xiu Hui, wouldn’t comment on the gossip about her since she views people based on her own experiences, not others’ words.

”You can just sit here. It’s likely to be quite busy soon, but don’t worry, we only handle minor illnesses here. Severe cases are sent to larger hospitals.” Qi Xiu Hui spoke softly, her voice so gentle Beisitian had to lean closer to hear clearly.

In the office with Qi Xiu Hui were a female doctor in her forties and Shen Junping, the Doctor Shen commander Liu sent here, who was operating in the surgery room that day.

Doctor Shen was also in his thirties but was experienced and competent, with a well-connected background. He enjoyed battalion level privileges and Doctor Sun’s appreciation. When Doctor Sun wasn’t around, he organized activities, and everyone accepted his role.

Nobody wanted to mentor Beisitian, although Doctor Shen initially planned to. But upon hearing this, Doctor Sun decided to let Qi Xiu Hui take her, for reasons unknown.

Shen Junping was concerned, but fortunately, he shared an examination room with Qi Xiu Hui, so he could still assist if needed.

Beisitian sat beside Qi Xiu Hui. The room was still quiet, as it was early.

”Why did Xiao Bei choose to study traditional Chinese medicine?” Shen Junping asked casually.

”Is it bad to study traditional Chinese medicine?” Beisitian retorted.

”Not bad, just speaking frankly, traditional Chinese medicine doesn’t have a great future now. Even transitioning professionally later has huge limitations and will impact compensation,” Shen Junping replied.

Seeing his clear gaze, simply analyzing the state of traditional Chinese medicine, Beisitian nodded, ”Looking at the current trends, in twenty years, we’ll see a decrease in average lifespan.”

”Twenty years?” Another doctor, Yu Shufang, sneered, ”You’re thinking way too far ahead.”
