I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 229: Chapter 228: By Your Side

It turns out, when Deputy Squad Leader Luo wants to hold you while sleeping, it doesn’t matter if it’s day or night.

Beisitian was curled up stiffly in Deputy Squad Leader Luo’s arms, his steady breathing echoing by her ear.

”What did you think I was going to do just now?” Luo Xudong’s rich voice sounded beside her ear, with a hint of amusement in his tone.

Beisitian pretended to be dead while nestled in his embrace.

Come on, who wouldn’t get the wrong idea hearing something like ’sleep with me’? Who knew it was meant literally!

”Don’t rush, we’ll do it tonight,” Luo Xudong’s voice was thick with fatigue yet carried an unexplainable joy.

Who’s rushing!

Beisitian felt a bit annoyed but didn’t want to retort, nor could she, since she had misunderstood his meaning.

But...come tonight...

Beisitian suddenly felt a flutter in her heart upon hearing Luo Xudong say that, not knowing if he sensed something, he held her tighter.

”It’s so comfortable holding you!”

Having a mission right after getting married, Luo Xudong felt very gloomy, so he completed the task in half the time with unparalleled speed, rushing home to savor the comfort of his beloved’s embrace, planning to recover and then do the unfinished business!

Luo Xudong slept the whole afternoon before he could recover. He hadn’t really closed his eyes these past two days and was exhausted.

Beisitian’s nap, however, was spoiled by his few words, lying idly in Luo Xudong’s arms all afternoon, her body grew a bit weary.

She planned to get up in the middle, but whenever the sleeping Luo Xudong felt her attempting to leave, his arms would involuntarily tighten, afraid she would slip from his hold.

Feeling his nervousness, Beisitian couldn’t help but feel a sweetness in her heart.

It wasn’t until the sun tilted westward that Luo Xudong opened his eyes, finding Beisitian’s body somewhat stiff.

”You sure can sleep.” Beisitian feigned annoyance, giving him a sidelong glance before getting out of bed to head to the kitchen to cook; the ingredients she bought from the market that morning were still fresh.

Luo Xudong got out of bed as well and followed her into the kitchen, ”I’ll help you.”

”You can cook?” Beisitian asked with mild astonishment.

”Yes.” Luo Xudong took the knife from her hand and skillfully began chopping the vegetables, showcasing impressive knife skills.

Watching this tall and handsome man cook for her, Beisitian felt a warm wave swell in her heart.

”I’m sorry for leaving you here alone.” Luo Xudong slowed down his chopping slightly.

Beisitian turned to look at his handsome profile; even though he wasn’t looking at her, she knew he was paying attention to her.

The feeling was quite magical.

Despite leaving Beisitian here alone being due to objective reasons, Luo Xudong still felt guilty.

This was a completely unfamiliar environment for Beisitian; coming here for the first time, she didn’t know the area or even where to buy things, just the thought was worrisome.

Though Luo Xudong’s tone was calm, Beisitian could still feel his emotions, her lips curling up uncontrollably.

”Don’t worry too much.”

Luo Xudong didn’t say more. Now that he’s back by her side, he wouldn’t let her adapt to a wholly unfamiliar environment alone again.

Two dishes and one soup soon emerged from their concerted efforts, and though they were simple home dishes, they both ate with gusto, surprisingly finding a hint of sweetness even where only salt was added.

After dinner, Luo Xudong accompanied Beisitian downstairs to walk it off. It wasn’t completely dark yet; the walkways were quite lively, mostly with soldiers.

As they strolled and chatted, Luo Xudong told Beisitian that initially, he wasn’t stationed here, but moved here due to job requirements; he hadn’t been here long, yet developed strong feelings.

”Anding City’s economy is relatively prosperous, though it can’t compare with big cities like the Capital City, it’s quite good for a city of its level, and the base’s area is quite large with a full range of facilities,” said Luo Xudong.

”The medical team is pretty good, almost like a city hospital, right?” Beisitian asked.

”It was established from the start according to a city hospital’s standards, though the building size isn’t as large, the facilities and staff are up to city hospital levels because it’s relatively close to the Capital City. There are always some retired officials coming over for checkups, and occasionally field commanders too.”

Beisitian’s eyes lit up, ”The elder would come too?”

”Yes, if quick, at least once this year,” Luo Xudong replied.

Beisitian smiled, regretting not being able to see off Wu Yuekai when he left, having parted without even seeing him.

She wondered how the elder’s health was doing, worrying that relying on just some talisman powder wouldn’t be enough to quickly improve Wu Yuekai’s condition; only gradual conditioning would help.

While they were chatting and strolling, they didn’t know that the medical team was searching the world for her.

This started two days ago in the medical team, when Sun Wangnian arrived, the nurses had already cleaned the wound and were preparing to stitch it up. When Nurse Liu saw him arrive, she quickly asked him to check for any problems.

When Sun Wangnian arrived, he had heard that Commander Liu was seriously injured, and seeing the huge gash indeed warranted the term serious, but now the person’s condition was stable, with even and steady breathing, though his face remained pale from excessive blood loss.

”What happened? Hasn’t the bleeding stopped?” Sun Chengxing asked Nurse Liu.

He had heard of a serious illness, almost tripping down the way over. If he, at his age, took a fall, it wouldn’t have been good. Why was Xiao Liu so unreliable!

Nurse Liu wore a bitter expression, ”Doctor Sun, at first the bleeding really wouldn’t stop!”

She thoroughly recounted Beisitian’s visit to Sun Wangnian, ending with a wry smile, ”Luckily that new medical assistant was there today, otherwise there would have been big trouble.”

Those soldiers from the 26th Regiment are just too much to provoke!

”Acupuncture to stop bleeding?” Sun Wangnian muttered. Though not very knowledgeable about traditional medicine, he knew such severe wounds couldn’t be stopped solely by acupuncture!

Thinking something was amiss, Sun Wangnian inquired further, eventually learning that the medical assistant had given Commander Liu a cup of clear water mixed with medicine powder before withdrawing the needles.

”Go find the person, I need to ask about the situation,” Sun Wangnian said.

Knowing that retelling by others can cause inaccuracies, Sun Wangnian wanted to ask personally.

Nurse Liu’s expression grew even bitterer, ”I asked, that medical assistant is new, hasn’t even completed the induction procedures.”

”So what?” Sun Chengxing raised his eyebrow.

”So...so we can’t find the person.” Nurse Liu nearly cried.

...

As the sky turned dark, there were fewer people strolling around the residential building; Beisitian and Luo Xudong also prepared to head back.

”Can you still sleep at night after napping all afternoon?” Beisitian asked, never having taken such a long afternoon nap.

Luo Xudong slightly turned his head to look at her, his eyes deepening, ”Yes, I can sleep, after I finish serious matters.”
