I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 232: Chapter 231: She’s Here

Doctor Sun reached the doorway before he realized something was amiss. At his age, how could he go out to welcome a young girl? What if it inflated the girl’s confidence excessively?

So he subtly turned around and headed toward the bookshelf on the side. Once he got there, he said, ”Let her come over in a while.”

Nurse Liu had already taken a step forward, but upon hearing this, she withdrew, suppressing the urge to facepalm. Oh, Doctor Sun, that bookshelf is so dusty, you normally don’t even glance at it, and now, apart from the three newcomers, who can’t see what’s on your mind?

Doctor Sun was the only one in the unit granted a private room as an office. Outside this room was a large office where all the stationed doctors worked. He was worried that the doctors on duty outside would laugh at him for being impatient.

The young nurse stood perplexed, glanced at Nurse Liu, and seeing her signal, quickly responded and ran back.

Beisitian had already visited the military logistics human resources department. With Wu Yuekai’s recommendation, the procedures were smoothly completed. As she walked out, she wondered, will she soon be a soldier too?

Beisitian didn’t care much about becoming a soldier; she came to be a military doctor just for a formal identity.

However, what Beisitian was looking forward to was experiencing the functions and effects of modern medical instruments, which made her somewhat excited.

Upon reporting to the medical unit, she should first report to Commander Zhou. Although the location is a division-level unit, there isn’t a large hospital established; it only has a regiment-level medical unit. Therefore, the medical unit is overseen by the commander.

Commander Zhou was not currently at the location, and the medical unit’s affairs were handed over to Sun Wangnian, who enjoyed regiment-level treatment.

So Beisitian needed to report to Doctor Sun. Here at the medical unit, they didn’t use military titles; they generally addressed people as ’Doctor.’

When Beisitian reached the entrance, she saw the young nurse who always seemed scared upon seeing her. Seeing her was like seeing a ghost for the nurse, leaving Beisitian puzzled.

”Comrade, is Doctor Sun here?” Beisitian held her, afraid she would run off again. Unexpectedly, the nurse grabbed her in return, also appearing afraid she’d slip away.

”Yes, yes, follow me.” The nurse led her inside.

As they reached the doorway, they happened to meet three young people coming out, two women and one man, their gazes filled with scrutiny, and among them, some seemed judgmental. Before Beisitian could observe carefully, the nurse had already pulled her inside.

”Nurse Liu, she’s here.” The nurse looked at Nurse Liu with a triumphant expression.

Nurse Liu shot her a disapproving glance. If only she hadn’t gone out of procedure, Doctor Sun wouldn’t have been this anxious.

”You’re here to report to Doctor Sun, right? Why did you come today?” Nurse Liu asked with a smiling face.

The previous three medical assistants were specially recruited graduates from medical schools. Today, there were only three medical assistants entering through regular channels for internships here, all of whom had completed field training. This girl was certainly not someone who came through regular channels, and judging by her appearance, she hadn’t undergone field training either.

Those entering through special channels generally had strong connections, so as a head nurse, she couldn’t afford any offense.

Knowing the ins and outs, Nurse Liu greeted Beisitian without the tone and demeanor of ’I’m a senior, you have to listen to me.’

”Yesterday the medical unit encountered an emergency situation, so I guess they weren’t able to deal with my matter,” Beisitian truthfully replied, secretly puzzled. Wasn’t it just a matter of two or three days? The medical unit operated just fine without her before, so her delayed arrival should not have any impact.

Nurse Liu only asked casually; she wasn’t really expecting a deep inquiry. She smiled while leading her to the inner office, asking, ”What’s your name?”

”Beisitian, derived from ’recall bitterness, think of sweetness,’” Beisitian said.

”Good name.” Nurse Liu said insincerely. Although this name isn’t as plain or common as something like ”Sumu,” not many girls prefer to be named this way, usually city girls choose it more often.

”Doctor Sun, she’s here.” Nurse Liu said with a smile.

Curious about Beisitian’s background, she pretended to be oblivious and didn’t leave.

But Doctor Sun wouldn’t allow her to play dumb, reminding her to close the door when exiting. Nurse Liu could only smile bitterly inside and leave. She would find another time to learn more about Beisitian.

”Young girl, are you the medical assistant who used a silver needle to stop the bleeding?” Doctor Sun raised his chin; his eyes were already small, and squinting made them smaller, with both corners of his mouth drooping slightly, deliberately conveying authority?

”Yes.” Beisitian replied.

”I haven’t really studied traditional medicine, but I do have plenty of traditional medicine friends. Liu Loud Mouth’s injury wasn’t something acupuncture could stop.” Doctor Sun said.

”Well, it also included some of my family’s medicine preparation, combining the two stopped the bleeding.” Beisitian said.

”Family medicine?” Doctor Sun revealed a look of doubt. Are there still such sayings?

Beisitian nodded. Family heritage is usually a secret, so it’s best not to ask too much.

It was Doctor Sun’s first time meeting her, and although curious, he genuinely felt it inappropriate to inquire further. So, after a soft cough, he said, ”Young girl, not bad. Who recommended you here? Let me see the recommendation letter.”

Beisitian handed the recommendation letter to Sun Wangnian.

Sun Wangnian unfolded the recommendation letter, immediately looking at the stamp in the bottom right corner. His expression changed slightly upon seeing it; she was recommended by the old military chief!

What is the background of this young girl!

After checking the stamp, Sun Wangnian began reading the recommendation letter from the beginning, in which the language was sincere, full of high praise for Beisitian. However, it also clearly stated that she should start as a medical assistant.

From this letter, it appeared the old military chief had high expectations for Beisitian, and the words seemed caring, specifically instructing her to start as a medical assistant to avoid controversial opinions and resistance, thereby avoiding trouble.

The old military chief was kind to him. Knowing she was recommended by the chief, Sun Wangnian’s gaze towards Beisitian softened significantly, though his facial expression showed little change, with his mouth drooping in a stern manner.

”Although the old military chief recommended you, don’t let your confidence swell excessively. Young people should stay energetic but learn restraint; work diligently and don’t fail the high hopes the chief placed on you!” Sun Wangnian said with his chin raised.

Beisitian faintly smiled. She could tell Sun Wangnian’s tone held no malice, so she didn’t respond to that, unaware everyone was treated similarly by him.

”Doctor Sun, shall I start working today?” Beisitian asked.

”Yes, the medical unit generally has flexible shifts, and there will be night duties, so be prepared mentally. You’ve arrived rather suddenly, and we don’t have your attire yet. Just wear your own clothes for now.”
