I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 224: Chapter 223: Departure

Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin were so shaken upon seeing so much money that their hands trembled. They kept asking where it came from, and Beisitian recounted the story of the screen from start to finish.

Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin were dumbfounded. Could embroidery really earn so much money?

Luo Anguo knew nothing about it, but Mrs. Qin knew a little. However, the so-called Double-sided Three-different Embroidery seemed so far-fetched to her that she never imagined embroidery could earn big money!

”Little Tian’er, you’re really talented!” Mrs. Qin praised sincerely.

To others, this was just some tailoring work, at most adding a little decoration to look nice when going out. But in Beisitian’s hands, it could earn so much money!

”So, Mother, you don’t need to worry about us. Keep this money; use it however you wish.” Beisitian smiled gently.

Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin exchanged glances, their eyes resting on the money order, but neither acknowledged Beisitian’s words.

After a while, Luo Anguo took the money order from Mrs. Qin’s hands and said to Beisitian, ”Little Tian’er, I’m just a mountain man now. I wouldn’t know how to spend so much money even if you gave it to me. We’ll keep five thousand. You take the rest with you; you and Xudong should save some money too.”

Seeing Beisitian wanted to say more, he quickly added, ”The money isn’t safe with us anyway. When we run out, we’ll ask you for more!”

Beisitian realized she had overlooked this point. Both she and Luo Xudong wouldn’t be around, and leaving this forty-five thousand would be like a gold nugget. If word got out, it might bring trouble. It could be more harmful than beneficial for them.

”Five thousand is quite a lot; it should be enough for Ping’an’s schooling!” Mrs. Qin said with a smile.

Influenced by Beisitian, they highly valued Luo Anping’s education. Both Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo planned to support him as far as he could go.

Isn’t five thousand already substantial? For other families in these poor areas, they might not earn such an amount in a lifetime.

Beisitian took the money order and prepared to set aside five thousand for them to save.

In less than a week, Luo Xudong would have to return to the army. They initially planned to visit some people and bid farewell to close friends, but unexpected changes arose.

The army sent a notification, urgently summoning Luo Xudong back, and they had to leave that very day.

Plans could not keep up with changes, so Beisitian only had time to pack a few things before following Luo Xudong to Dayan.

Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo wiped their tears as they followed them out. How suddenly they had to leave; who knew when they would return?

”Mother, our garrison is in Anding, less than a hundred kilometers from here, so it’s quite convenient for us to come back,” Luo Xudong said.

Luo Xuping, teary-eyed, clung to Beisitian’s arm, ”Sister, take me with you.”

Seeing his scrunched-up little face, Beisitian felt both sad and amused. She wiped his tears and said, ”Ping’an, study hard. Once you’ve learned well, you can come find me!”

Luo Xuping began to wail, understanding her words to mean she wouldn’t take him along. Luo Xudong, the bad brother, had come and taken his sister away!

Seeing his reaction, Beisitian crouched down to comfort him.

Nearby, Luo Xudong frowned slightly, ”A grown boy shouldn’t be moved to tears so easily. Didn’t you say you wanted to protect your parents and sister? Were those just empty words?”

Hearing this, Luo Xuping pursed his lips, stopped crying, and glared at Luo Xudong. ”I wasn’t lying. I’ll definitely be a hero someday. I’ll be better than you!”

Luo Xudong’s lips twitched to the sides, ”I’ve never seen a hero who loves to cry so much.”

Luo Xuping glared at Luo Xudong in anger. He was too annoying!

”Don’t bully my sister, or don’t blame me for being rude!” Luo Xuping said, raising his small fist.

Luo Xudong’s face darkened. These didn’t sound like words from a little brother; they sounded more like a little brother-in-law.

”Mother, please explain things to Sister Bao Li for me. We don’t have enough time to see her. Dad, just manage the art shop as I’ve taught you before. I’ll send back the artworks regularly!” Beisitian felt like there was still much to say, but there was no more time.

In the distance, a small public bus came rolling in with dust.

”We’ll call you when we get there. Ping’an, be good and listen. Take care of Zhuangzhuang. Zhuangzhuang, you stay and look after the house well for me, wait for me to come back.” Beisitian continued to give instructions until the very last moment before getting on the bus.

Zhuangzhuang had been circling around her feet. Seeing her get on the bus without it, it became anxious and refused to let go, clawing at the door.

Seeing this, a pang of sorrow hit Beisitian’s heart.

Luo Anguo hurriedly pulled Zhuangzhuang back, his face filled with reluctance as he waved them off, ”Go on, go on.”

Mrs. Qin covered her mouth, crying silently and unable to speak, while Luo Xuping bit his lip, tears streaming down, refusing to cry out loud as he was still competing with Luo Xudong.

The bus door closed, and the vehicle slowly started, heading toward the endless horizon.

As the bus left, Mrs. Qin could no longer hold back her tears and started crying aloud. Luo Anguo, though not in tears, felt just as heavy-hearted, and, losing focus, failed to hold onto Zhuangzhuang. Zhuangzhuang swiftly broke free, chasing after the bus, ignoring Luo Anguo’s calls from behind.

Luo Xudong and Beisitian felt somewhat heavy-hearted too. Luo Xudong was handling it better, but for Beisitian, who thought she could take it lightly, she found herself nostalgic even though it wasn’t a permanent goodbye.

Where they sat in the middle of the bus, they couldn’t see Zhuangzhuang chasing behind. Zhuangzhuang pursued them for several kilometers until it was finally exhausted and stopped, sitting down and howling toward the departing bus.

It was evening when they finally reached Qingzhou City. They stopped for the night in the city and planned to head to Anding City early the next morning, where the Ninth Department was stationed.

Settled in the military guesthouse in Qingzhou City, they suddenly remembered something. Beisitian asked Luo Xudong, ”Did Grandpa know about this?”

”The regimental commander has returned to Beijing; he had to leave urgently too,” Luo Xudong replied.

That’s why the old man hadn’t come to their wedding.

”Before he left, the regimental commander left a letter of recommendation. Once we’re settled at the garrison, you can take it to Commander Zhou and ask him to arrange for you to join the medical team,” Luo Xudong said, handing over a letter to Beisitian.

This had been given to him by Wu Yuekai a few days back when he visited the courtyard. They had been too busy to mention it until now.

Beisitian, holding the letter, nodded. The term ”military doctor” wasn’t entirely unfamiliar to her, and she felt a mix of curiosity and a bit of anticipation.

”You should be prepared. Even with sponsorship, since you don’t have formal qualifications, you’ll probably have to start as a Medical Assistant once you’re in. Although you won’t have to go on missions, it’ll still be quite demanding,” Luo Xudong said, gently touching the top of her head.
