I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 231: Chapter 230: None of the Three

When Beisitian woke up, Luo Xudong was already gone. She hadn’t heard a sound at all. Last night was really exhausting; her whole body felt sore and weak, and she didn’t want to move...

Thinking about what happened last night, Beisitian’s face flushed, but the corners of her mouth couldn’t help curling up a little.

Having a man to rely on seems nice.

Beisitian checked the time; it was nearly ten o’clock. She hurried to get up and saw a thermal container on the table in the outer room. Inside were breakfast that Luo Xudong brought her in the morning, millet porridge and buns—it was still warm when she touched it.

After washing up, Beisitian ate a little breakfast. Generally, the troops have lunch in the cafeteria, so if Beisitian didn’t want to go, she could just cook something at home without worrying about Luo Xudong.

Beisitian initially planned to report to the medical team today, but as soon as she went downstairs, Uncle Wang on duty stopped her, saying someone called her.

”How do you know who I am?” Beisitian felt curious, seeing that he was so sure it was her without even asking her name.

Uncle Wang’s face was covered with age spots, and he always looked gloomy. Upon hearing her, he glanced at Beisitian without responding.

Beisitian smiled wryly, thinking this old man had quite a personality.

Dialing back the number left by the caller, she heard a familiar voice.

”Sister Bao Li?!” Beisitian exclaimed in surprise.

”Little Tian’er, guess where I am?” Zhang Baoli said with a playful tone.

Beisitian pursed her lips, ”You wouldn’t be in Anping City, would you?”

A burst of laughter came from the phone, ”You’re so smart, I’m right in Anping City—this is my hometown! Who would have thought I’d come back home!”

Listening to this, Zhang Baoli was indeed very happy.

”Thanks to you, Little Tian’er, or else I wouldn’t know when I’d be back!” Zhang Baoli said in an elevated tone.

”Me?”

”Yes, Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop was keeping such a tight hold on you. You just left, and they transferred me here. Now I’m working at Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop here, so take care of me in the future!” Zhang Baoli said with a giggle.

Beisitian obviously felt that Zhang Baoli seemed to be much livelier than before and said with a smile, ”Saying thanks is easy, but you really have to treat me to a meal.”

”Hahaha, sure, sure! Little Tian’er, where are you? I’ll find you when the time comes.” Zhang Baoli was very happy to see Beisitian being straightforward with her.

”I’d better go to you,” Beisitian thought it was inconvenient at the troops, so she said.

For her, Anping City was a completely unfamiliar city, and having another familiar person made her feel very close.

”Okay, I’ll give you the address, but I just got transferred today, so I need to hand things over these two days. I’ll call you once I’m free!” Zhang Baoli laughed.

Contacting from here was much easier; previously, Beisitian could only contact her in a one-way manner.

After hanging up the phone, Beisitian checked the time and decided to go grocery shopping first since she needed to cook dinner later.

Returning from grocery shopping, it was already noon. Though having just eaten lunch, Beisitian wasn’t hungry. She had exerted herself a lot yesterday, so she took a nap at noon to recharge.

Checking the time, Beisitian took the recommendation letter from the old man and went to report at the medical team, still unaware that things had turned upside down there.

At the medical team, Doctor Sun squinted at the three new medical assistants in front of him, examining them up and down before turning to Nurse Liu, ”None of these three?”

Nurse Liu wiped the sweat off her forehead and shook her head, ”None of them.”

Doctor Sun frowned, ”There are only three medical assistants reporting this year, all present here. Who on earth are you talking about?”

”This...” Nurse Liu was speechless. She pulled these people over after hearing from the little nurse at the front desk.

”Dare to use someone without knowing who they are—are you disregarding the lives of soldiers?” Doctor Sun snapped coldly. As a military doctor with a rank, his words truly startled Nurse Liu.

”I’ll go ask that little nurse right away what’s going on!” Nurse Liu was a bit flustered. She had already inquired, hearing that it was an urgent situation, thinking of completing the onboarding procedures later, but unexpectedly, the person hadn’t shown up until now.

Normally, this would be a minor issue; however, Doctor Sun refused to let it go—making it a big deal.

Of course, Doctor Sun wanted to get to the bottom of it. The silver needle to stop bleeding is a skilled technique in traditional Chinese medicine, and he was curious. When he arrived, the wound was just being cleaned, and given the circumstances, stopping the bleeding couldn’t rely solely on acupuncture. As expected, he heard there were other methods used; he was curious about what exactly was done.

You should know that Nurse Liu’s approach at the time had no problems at all, yet after two injections, the bleeding wouldn’t stop. That girl managed it with a few silver needles and a sip of clear water. As an experienced doctor, how could he not be intrigued?

His curiosity was burning bright, yet he couldn’t find the person anywhere, causing Doctor Sun’s curiosity to grow stronger—this girl seemed quite mysterious!

The three new medical assistants standing opposite were two women and one man, all in their early twenties. They looked at Doctor Sun in bewilderment, not very satisfied internally, yet dared not show it.

They had already asked around when they came; Sun Wangnian, though not the primary head of the medical team, was an elder respected by all regardless of age or experience. Even Company Commander Zhou would listen to his words.

So if they could gain Sun Wangnian’s approval, having someone above speaking for them, securing a place was assured—for the rumor was that both the other assistants came through connections.

These days, without connections, you can’t move an inch.

Looking at Sun Wangnian’s demeanor, he seemed to be looking for someone, possibly another medical assistant—but the fact was, only the three of them should be present for internship at the setting.

The three weren’t fools; nobody wanted to speak first before they figured out the situation—each remained silent, standing there waiting for Doctor Sun to speak.

Once knowing these three weren’t the right people, Sun Wangnian lost interest in them, asked a few questions to express his concern, and had them escorted to familiarize themselves with the work environment.

Given the peaceful times, work at the medical team was relatively relaxed. Situations like with Liu Jun Commander, though existing, were rare; work was easy, naturally limiting chances to shine.

Just as the three were about to leave, a frantic little nurse rushed in.

”She’s here! She’s here!” The little nurse from the reception desk exclaimed—being an intern, she could only handle such duties temporarily.

Nurse Liu perked up immediately, seeing Doctor Sun stand and head towards the door.

Actually, Beisitian hadn’t done anything earth-shattering—it was Doctor Sun’s curiosity fermenting during the period he couldn’t find her. Being an old doctor at the medical team was what caused such a stir.
