I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 207: Chapter 206: Pay Back the Money

As for Old Mrs. Luo, ever since Luo Xudong returned, he hadn’t gone to see her. Previously, her harshness and insults towards his mother could be attributed to the natural conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. But after Luo Anguo hurt his leg and Qin Hongmei caused a ruckus wanting to split the family, even if Old Mrs. Luo didn’t say it explicitly, she tacitly agreed and even supported Qin Hongmei.

Since Old Mrs. Luo no longer cared about this family bond, he naturally didn’t need to care either, so he chose to ignore her completely!

Regarding Uncle Luo Aiguo, regardless of whether he was coerced at the time or had other objective reasons, since he let go at that time, the bond had faded, and no matter how he tried to make amends afterward, it was to no avail.

Luo Xudong was someone who saw things very clearly and acted decisively. Beisitian was the same type of person, as could be seen from how she never acknowledged Luo’s house.

The situation with Qin Hongmei was different. Whether to let her never regain her footing, Luo Xudong hesitated for a moment and considered Beisitian’s concerns to be justified. Even if Old Mrs. Luo was unfeeling, she was still Luo Anguo’s biological mother. If she used filial piety to suppress Luo Anguo, he would have no choice.

So the best solution was to let Qin Hongmei never prosper, yet still have to serve Old Mrs. Luo and the whole family in this household.

Last time, Beisitian’s counterattack was powerful, thoroughly suppressing Qin Hongmei’s dominance, but unfortunately, even though Old Mrs. Luo disliked her, once she coaxed Luo Aiguo, their relationship warmed, and life became somewhat better than it initially was.

Bai Jinfeng had a gentle nature, and she never intended to suppress Qin Hongmei nor could she, and now that Qin Hongmei and Luo Aiguo’s relationship had warmed again, there were signs she was being bullied by Qin Hongmei.

Qin Hongmei was the sort of person whom ordinary punishment only deterred temporarily; it wouldn’t be long before she started acting up again.

For Qin Hongmei, Luo Xudong just wanted to vent for his parents, but who he truly wanted to find was the instigator of all this!

Luo Xudong had already started arranging things six years ago when he received his mission. He knew how desperate his parents would feel after learning of his ’bad news,’ so he tried to ensure they were well-fed and clothed.

Even though he found a person he trusted most at that time, he still couldn’t fully rest assured; he separated out an additional two thousand as a backup.

These two sums of money both had issues simultaneously, and Luo Xudong didn’t believe it was a coincidence!

Since it wasn’t a coincidence, there must have been someone behind it.

These past few days, he had been particularly focused on understanding Wang Guijin, who had some strength but not much brain. To have him plot to collude with Qin Hongmei to conspire, to put it bluntly, he might not see things as clearly as Qin Hongmei.

He planned to temporarily put aside Qiao Xianhong’s side and first retrieve those two thousand.

The events from six years ago would require some work to uncover. Luo Xudong knew he might have to wait until he returned to the military to find this person, but the one advantage was that the base of the Ninth Department was also in Anding City, making the investigation much easier.

While Beisitian was wondering why Luo Xudong hadn’t made a move yet, he was preparing to pay a visit that day.

”You’re just going like that?” Beisitian asked, slightly surprised.

”Yes.” Luo Xudong nodded.

”Are you planning to trick her?”

”Yes.”

Beisitian reminded him, ”I’ve duped her before; she probably won’t easily fall for it again.”

”I know.” Luo Xudong smiled, ”Are you coming with me?”

Beisitian thought for a moment and decided to go with him. She wanted to see how Luo Xudong would trick Qin Hongmei.

Luo Xudong had already mentioned this to his parents in advance. When they learned there was still so much money involved, they were taken aback, and Mrs. Qin wept tears like rain. It wasn’t just about the eight thousand yuan; even back then, with those two thousand yuan, they could have overcome any difficulty, and it certainly wouldn’t have been so tough!

If they had that money back then, they definitely would have sent Luo Anguo straight to the city hospital. If he had been treated properly at that time, even if not to the current effect, at least he’d be able to take care of himself!

Mrs. Qin had never hated Qin Hongmei this much before, even if she knew her eyes were blinded by Qin Hongmei’s scheming. But now, she wished she could tear a piece of flesh from her!

Although Luo Anguo hadn’t said anything, from his slightly trembling body, it was evident he was furious too. Qin Hongmei had a hand in every disaster that befell his family!

She was like a nemesis to their family!

Therefore, when Luo Xudong decided to confront her, both parents agreed. Even if they couldn’t retrieve the two thousand, they wanted Luo Aiguo to know what kind of person she was.

Beisitian quietly shook her head. Even if Luo Aiguo didn’t know what Qin Hongmei had done, didn’t he know how much money his family had over the years? Besides, the family did have money, but during Luo Er’s family’s hardships, not a penny could be extracted from it; could everything be blamed on Qin Hongmei?

Luo Xudong and Beisitian walked ahead, with Mrs. Qin following behind. Considering Luo Aiguo’s feelings, Beisitian didn’t let him come along.

During the day, when someone was home, the front door was usually left open. Upon entering Luo’s house’s yard, Luo Aiguo was smoking a pipe in the courtyard, and he was very surprised to see Luo Xudong coming!

”Dongzi and Little Tian’er are here! Sister-in-law’s here too!” Luo Aiguo instinctively felt they weren’t visiting for leisure, ”Come on, come inside and sit.”

Luo Xudong stood firm, ”Uncle, I want back my two thousand yuan settlement fee.”

Two thousand yuan settlement fee?

Luo Aiguo was utterly confused, ”What settlement fee?”

Mrs. Qin hadn’t slept a wink all night and could no longer hold back. She stepped forward, ”Brother, Qin Hongmei has no conscience! If it weren’t for her, how could we have endured such hardships for so many years! If not for her, how could Anguo have been bedridden for so many years!”

Mrs. Qin started to cry as she spoke, feeling so aggrieved. She hadn’t thought there would be such a wolf in sheep’s clothing right next to them! They just didn’t have the ability to realize they’d been wronged for so long!

Luo Aiguo was completely stunned, Did Qin Hongmei embezzle Luo Xudong’s two thousand settlement fee?!

”This... this...” Luo Aiguo wanted to say it was impossible, but considering Qin Hongmei’s character, it wasn’t entirely out of the question.

”Uncle, I want to speak with her.” Luo Xudong was calm and composed, but this very demeanor left Luo Aiguo even more unsure.

If Luo Xudong wasn’t confident, he definitely wouldn’t come knocking after such a long time, and since he came, it wouldn’t just be for a mere squabble!

Left with no choice, Luo Aiguo, not knowing what was going on, had to call Qin Hongmei out.

Qin Hongmei had long heard the commotion and when she heard about the two thousand yuan, her heart started racing, imagining countless possibilities. But then she remembered the phone call from Wang Guijin, which gave her some reassurance.
