I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 206: Chapter 205: To What Extent

If there’s someone in the military, it’s very easy to investigate a person; Luo Xudong’s inquiry was sent over the day before yesterday, and by the third day, there was a result.

This person is called Wang Guijin, previously a guard for Commander Zhou of the 31st Regiment of the 112th Division; now he’s a platoon leader under the same regiment. His father, Wang Baifa, does small business, and his mother, Qin Honglian, is Mrs. Qin’s younger sister.

Having the lead, they can now trace it upwards. Six years ago, Wang Guijin was still a guard for Commander Zhou; back then, he was part of the Twenty-eighth Regiment. Commander Zhou always had a good relationship with their regiment leader, but merely being on good terms wouldn’t be enough to know about this incident.

At that time, Luo Xudong originally participated in the selection for a special forces unit, but during the selection process, he was spotted by the people from the General Staff Ninth Department. Later, after passing the selection, Luo Xudong was forcibly taken by the staff.

The General Staff Ninth Department also carried out special missions; this was Luo Xudong’s first task. The money was directly given to him, and by then, he had already left the original troops, so neither the former regiment leader nor Commander Zhou could have known about it.

How Wang Guijin ended up knowing about this matter can be investigated slowly later on. As long as they know he is involved, it’s alright; after so many years, even if there was evidence, it would be gone.

Luo Xudong and Beisitian exchanged a glance, contemplating how to make Qin Hongmei confess voluntarily.

Getting her to admit it is the first step; the second step is to recover the money.

”Qin Hongmei, that woman seems loud and blustering, but she’s actually bold and meticulous. If she embezzled such a sum, she’d definitely go over it thoroughly and communicate with those over there. If we rashly frighten her, if it doesn’t work at that moment, she’d surely communicate with them afterward. Without evidence, as long as she insists she didn’t take the money, there’s nothing we can do.” Beisitian said.

”In such a short time, you’ve analyzed her quite thoroughly.” Luo Xudong’s lips curled into a faint smile.

Beisitian paused slightly, noticing Luo Xudong’s choice of words. Why use ’such a short time’?

The original owner had been dealing with Qin Hongmei for many years, so the phrase ’short time’... Beisitian suddenly got a shock, her face slightly changed.

Luo Xudong seemed oblivious to her surprise, ”When dealing with such people, we can’t afford to hesitate.”

Beisitian’s gaze landed on Luo Xudong’s face, but she couldn’t find anything amiss, so she followed up with his statement, ”To what extent are you planning to act? Against Qin Hongmei.”

To what extent means what means they can use.

If it’s merely about recovering the money, it would naturally be much simpler, but if Luo Xudong intends to make sure Qin Hongmei can never recover, and even get kicked out of the Luo Family, then different means are required.

Ultimately, Beisitian couldn’t tell anything from Luo Xudong’s face. She found herself somewhat unable to fathom this man,

”What are you looking at, so intently?” Luo Xudong met Beisitian’s gaze, his lips curled in a half-smile.

Beisitian’s face darkened slightly; he clearly knew she was looking at him, yet he used the word ’intently,’ which could easily be misunderstood.

”Didn’t wipe your mouth after lunch, did you? There’s some oil residue on your lips,” Beisitian looked again.

Luo Xudong instinctively reached out, and only after realizing his lips were clean did he know he’d been tricked by Beisitian, watching her leave with a small, triumphant look on her face. He laughed, looking at her with a different sparkle in his eyes.

On the way back, the two happened to encounter Qin Hongmei. Although Qin Hongmei didn’t quite act like a mouse seeing a cat when she saw Luo Xudong, she visibly showed fear towards him.

”You two heading back?” Qin Hongmei asked with a forced smile.

Neither of them was the type to pretend politeness if they disagreed; even if Beisitian liked to leave some room, it depended on whom she was dealing with.

So to Qin Hongmei’s greeting, both of them responded faintly, nodded, and passed by.

Seeing their backs—one tall, the other slender but perfectly matched—made Qin Hongmei somewhat uncomfortable. After they walked away, she spat thick phlegm onto the ground.

”What a pair of no-good things!” Qin Hongmei cursed lightly.

Being afraid of Luo Xudong was only natural; she suffered several setbacks under his hand before he joined the military.

While he was away these years, she spared no efforts to bedevil his parents and nearly ruined his wife, adding to other things making her guilty, making her feel slightly inferior.

However, despite their mere posture, Qin Hongmei temporarily relaxed, as Luo Xudong didn’t seem to suspect her!

There had already been a call from over there anyway; all she needed was to stubbornly refuse.

Recalling the special call, reminding her, she felt slightly reassured. Six years have gone by; who could know what happened back then?

With a snort, Qin Hongmei rolled her eyes at the two and turned, waddling away.

Beisitian’s path was a bit muddy; when the rain just stopped, Luo Xudong asked her out to discuss these matters. Now she had to go back to tidy up the west room.

Luo Xudong followed her silently, his eyes flickering slightly, wondering how to keep her busy.

Beisitian was also thinking, evidently, Luo Xudong had some idea in mind, likely not completely confident, so he hadn’t said it.

She noticed Luo Xudong squint slightly when speaking about Qin Hongmei. From those deep, distant eyes, she saw a hint of danger.

Beisitian could very well understand; if it were her, she wouldn’t care about Luo Aiguo at all.

Back then, Luo Anguo and his wife were at the brink of despair, with no one helping them; they survived purely on their grit. Had they not, the family would have scattered long ago.

If they had the two thousand yuan back then, things wouldn’t have turned out like that.

Luo Er’s family faced this hardship; Qin Hongmei played a crucial role, with direct and indirect reasons. With Beisitian’s temperament, she’d certainly not let her off lightly, even more so for Luo Xudong.

However, regarding Old Mrs. Luo’s arrangement, Beisitian felt it necessary to remind Luo Xudong; after all, men can easily overlook these aspects.

Bai Jinfeng, with two children, was unable to care for Old Mrs. Luo. If things were done too thoroughly, wouldn’t that push Old Mrs. Luo back to Mrs. Qin’s side?

If so, it would be rather counterproductive!

So, dealing with Qin Hongmei must have a measure in mind.

This matter, in truth, feels somewhat rebellious, but Beisitian was always unconventional. She valued filial piety, but didn’t wish for blind obedience. Considering how Old Mrs. Luo treated Luo Anguo’s family, there was no need to hold to filial piety and wrong herself.
