I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 193: Chapter 192: The Return

”Did the old man come back?” Beisitian asked with a smile on her lips.

Upon hearing this question, Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo immediately tensed up.

”He’s on the way!” Wu Yuekai replied with a smile. He came to reassure them not to worry.

Upon hearing this, Luo Anguo and his wife felt a rush of joy. All the previous gloom vanished, and their focus was solely on the road leading into the village.

Beisitian took Wu Yuekai into the house they were currently residing in, knowing she couldn’t let him go to the greenhouse and eat together with everyone else.

Beisitian had made thoughtful preparations at home, selecting choice ingredients for a meal, not just for Wu Yuekai but also for the returning Luo Xudong.

”Please have some water while you sit, and I’ll prepare some food,” Beisitian said.

Mrs. Qin promptly told her to sit down. ”You sit, I’ll go instead.”

Once Wu Yuekai sat down, Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo felt uneasy. They had never seen such a high-ranking official, especially with two people in military uniforms beside him, whose gazes seemed quite formidable.

”You two go and wait outside,” Wu Yuekai said to the guards, noticing the couple’s discomfort.

The two nodded and went to the yard, where they began a staring contest with Zhuangzhuang.

”You’ve endured hardships all these years,” Wu Yuekai said to Luo Anguo.

He observed though Luo Anguo’s walk was still a bit unsteady, he managed to walk over by himself, which was a world of difference compared to last year.

Then he looked at Mrs. Qin’s eyes, which were bright and clear. At this age, she didn’t even need reading glasses, thanks to Beisitian’s skills.

It’s likely they’ve drunk plenty of Beisitian’s transparent medicine.

”From bitter times to sweet times indeed!”

Luo Anguo was deeply moved. He recalled how devastated they were when they first heard the news of Luo Xudong’s death, unable to accept the reality and even visiting the military, but not even getting inside.

Later, when he became paralyzed while hunting on the mountain, the family relied solely on Mrs. Qin, a woman who worked tirelessly, giving Qin Hongmei the opportunity she needed, and when her eyesight failed, the family almost couldn’t keep going.

Luckily, they had Luo Anping, giving them a small ray of hope that prevented them from breaking down.

Since Beisitian changed her ways last year, their family began to improve day by day. Within less than a year, they not only ate white bread, but even built a house. They even started a calligraphy shop in Qingzhou Town!

This transformation was beyond their wildest imagination, contrasting sharply with the days when even a coarse bun had to be split in two—like heaven and earth!

”You are blessed with good fortune; both children are wonderful!” Wu Yuekai smiled, referring to Luo Xudong and Beisitian, each possessing great talent!

Hearing this, the sadness on Luo Anguo’s face disappeared, replaced by a smile. Indeed, having one such child would already be a great blessing, but they had two!

Mrs. Qin brought in a cup of warm water, nervously saying, ”Um... Commander, my Little Tian’er says you cannot...can’t drink tea!”

Wu Yuekai laughed heartily, ”I know, I know. The girl always prepares my medicine. Every time after drinking the medicine, I can’t drink tea.” Alcohol, too—but let’s not mention that.

Mrs. Qin feared she might offend the commander and upset him, only to find him amicable.

When such an important figure visited, women usually didn’t accompany. Mrs. Qin helped Beisitian tidy things outside the room, her thoughts already drifting to Dayan.

”It’s almost five o’clock; why haven’t they arrived yet!” Mrs. Qin kept murmuring.

Beisitian let her be, knowing losing control of one’s emotions at times like this is normal. After all, it was a joyful occasion.

”Girl, wait before you start cooking!” Wu Yuekai shouted from inside.

Beisitian responded, placing the ingredients on separate plates, ready to cook. She washed her hands and said to Mrs. Qin, ”Mother, get ready. Let’s go pick him up.”

Mrs. Qin quickly put down the fire stick, smoothing her hair with her hand, and asked Beisitian how she looked. She had specially changed into new clothes Beisitian had bought for her today.

”You look great, mother, very spirited,” Beisitian said with a smile.

Mrs. Qin smiled, realizing she was smiling awkwardly, and promptly went to help Luo Anguo, knowing he wasn’t fast walking.

Today, Luo Anguo was also dressed dapperly. His shirt and cloth shoes were new, and his hair was neatly combed. They adjusted each other’s clothing before walking out supporting each other.

Seeing this, Wu Yuekai felt a wave of emotion, thinking if his own family member were alive, they could accompany each other into old age.

”What are you thinking, old man? Let’s go too,” Beisitian said with a smile.

”Hmph, I have to go welcome that rascal!” Wu Yuekai said, already making his way out.

Even though he held a high rank, Wu Yuekai greatly cared for individuals like Luo Xudong, who made significant sacrifices for the country. He had welcomed and sent off others like this before.

The village road had a greenhouse, open on all sides, allowing the big-wig arriving by sedan to be visible, prompting everyone to stand for attention. With a smile, Wu Yuekai gestured for them to sit down and eat properly, and it was only then that they sat back down.

As they walked out, the rumbling noise grew louder, leading everyone to look toward the sound and see several military jeeps approaching.

In total, five jeeps rolled down the village road, kicking up a light dust.

Seeing these vehicles, Luo Anguo and his wife held their hands together tightly, almost holding their breath, until they saw a familiar silhouette stepping out of the vehicle, rendering both their visions blurry.

The villagers attending the gathering thought someone else had arrived. Scanning the scene, they saw soldiers disembarking from the vehicles, predominantly noticing one imposing and handsome officer.

”Hey, look, why does that person look so familiar?”

”He looks familiar to me too!”

Walking at the forefront, his face was slightly stern, his gaze profound and distant, containing some undisguised sharpness. The five medals on his chest gleamed brightly.

”My god! Isn’t that Luo Xudong?” someone suddenly exclaimed.

As soon as the name ’Luo Xudong’ was spoken, many people were taken aback—it really was Luo Xudong!

In that moment, the entire area fell silent, with only the cicadas on the trees continuing their calls.

The soldiers arrived in front of Wu Yuekai in an organized manner, standing tall and saluting in unison, ”Greetings, Commander!”

Though only consisting of two platoons, their presence was overwhelming, deeply ingraining the image of their upright stature in the villagers’ hearts.

”Alright, alright, today I’m not the main character,” Wu Yuekai stepped forward, smiling, and patted Luo Xudong on the shoulder, tilting his head slightly, ”Go see your parents first.”

Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo had already collapsed in tears on the spot.
