I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 165: Chapter 164: Arriving at Midnight

Wu Yuekai woke up twice during the day, but his illness had consumed too much of him. Even though his fever had subsided, he still lay in a daze and soon fell back into a deep sleep.

He instructed Li Xuejun not to report anything to the higher-ups, including matters concerning Beisitian.

Liu Xuejun nodded.

Beisitian had not awakened after a night and a day, and the two medics thought she was just exhausted.

Since his fever had gone down, Wu Yuekai no longer needed an IV. He woke up at night and hastily ate some dinner, worrying about Beisitian yet unable to fight off sleep.

After settling Wu Yuekai, Li Xuejun left someone to watch over him and went back to sleep.

In the middle of the night, a black shadow passed along the courtyard path of the compound—it was Luo Xudong.

Ever since Wu Yuekai mentioned that Beisitian might become suspicious, Luo Xudong began using the small path to conceal his visits and avoided entering openly.

Now, he arrived stealthily.

He gently pushed open the door to Beisitian’s room and tiptoed inside.

Closing the door, he stood at the entrance, looking at the person lying on the bed, then stepped forward and quietly watched her.

A look of pain occasionally crossed Beisitian’s pale face, clearly so exhausted that even her dreams were restless.

Luo Xudong reached out his hand and lightly brushed her delicate face with the back of it, then took out a small packet, opened it, and extracted two slices. He gently pinched Beisitian’s chin, prompting her to open her mouth, and placed the slices inside.

These were ginseng slices he had acquired unintentionally earlier. The ginseng was of excellent quality, aged six or seven hundred years, and reportedly had even been used to sustain life until rescue arrived.

Upon hearing of Beisitian’s collapse, Luo Xudong brought the ginseng slices and sneaked in.

”How could she be so exhausted?” Luo Xudong’s cold, handsome voice murmured softly.

Luo Xudong gently closed Beisitian’s lips, his fingers accidentally touching her soft lips, hesitating momentarily as a sudden flame ignited within him.

”Hmm~”

On the bed, Beisitian’s brows knitted slightly, and she softly moaned, prompting Luo Xudong to quickly stand and take two steps back, calming his unusual feelings as he found cover to hide.

Beisitian merely shifted her body slightly, tilted her head, and fell back into a deep sleep.

Luo Xudong relaxed, stretched out his long legs, and returned to the bedside, bending slightly over her. Under the moonlight, she seemed exceptionally delicate.

Her lips were a soft pink, though her cheeks remained somewhat pale.

Looking at those rosy lips, Luo Xudong felt his mouth dry as he unconsciously leaned down and pressed a kiss to the corner of her lips.

The next morning, Wu Yuekai was the first to wake up. Compared to yesterday, he was truly awake now.

”Where’s the girl?” Wu Yuekai’s first words upon waking were asking about Beisitian.

”Still asleep,” Chen Jingzhi replied.

”Bring me my clothes; I want to see her,” Wu Yuekai said.

This time, he was determined, ignoring the opposition from the clinic and Li Xuejun, and went outside.

Wu Yuekai walked through the corridor and arrived at Beisitian’s door, just about to knock when it suddenly opened.

”Old man, you’re awake,” she said with a knowing smile.

Beisitian still looked somewhat fatigued, but much better than last night.

The ginseng slices she had ingested were gone, and in her pocket was a small pouch of more slices, which had mysteriously appeared.

This ginseng was certainly not from the courtyard; if it was, there would be no need to place it in her pocket.

Could it be him?

Beisitian had a suspicion; the only person capable of secretly entering and delivering the ginseng slices was likely Luo Xudong.

Aside from him, she could think of no one else.

Thanks to the ginseng slices, she was able to awaken now.

Supporting Wu Yuekai back to the room, Chen Jingzhi and Tian Fang excused themselves for rest, leaving just her and Li Xuejun with him.

”Comrade Xiao Bei, did you give your medicine to the military chief?” Li Xuejun asked.

”Yes.”

Li Xuejun’s mouth dropped open; it was indeed because of her medicine!

”You... you...” Li Xuejun was at a loss for words.

Wu Yuekai looked at him and said, ”Let’s not talk about this outside for now.”

Li Xuejun agreed immediately, though he was still amazed that Beisitian could treat viral pneumonia!

”Girl, honestly tell me, does your unconsciousness have any relation to the medicine you gave me?” Wu Yuekai asked.

”It does,” Beisitian answered truthfully.

He looked at Beisitian, recalling the girl he had seen moving gracefully with her arms in the blue light, but ultimately said nothing.

No matter if that was real, Beisitian was not just a simple village girl.

”Military chief...” Li Xuejun couldn’t help but say, ”Comrade Xiao Bei could cure viral pneumonia. This is good news for everyone; if we report this, maybe the epidemic can be managed.”

He believed she should have this consciousness.

Of course, Wu Yuekai knew this, but he also knew that this one time alone had left Beisitian unconscious for two days, and it was only because of Xudong’s ginseng slices that she had regained consciousness; if it happened again, she was too young to endure it.

Luo Xudong had visited him at night, that much he knew.

”Go and report it, but say that I healed myself, and they can take samples from my blood,” Wu Yuekai instructed.

Li Xuejun opened his mouth but was ultimately discouraged.

She was unsurprised by his actions, aware that the old man wouldn’t expose her.

”Thank you, old man.” She humbly accepted his gesture.

After a brief conversation, Wu Yuekai tentatively asked a few questions, but seeing her refuse direct answers, he ceased probing, advising her to go home early to prevent her family’s worry.

Just before leaving, she requested three small jars. After packing the jars, she handed them back to Wu Yuekai, now filled with talismanic water.

”Old man, drink continuously for three days, remember!” she urged.

Wu Yuekai’s health was weak; though his fever subsided thanks to the talismanic water, his inflammation was not fully relieved and needed consolidation.

She promised to visit again in some time before departing.

Wu Yuekai stared at the seemingly ”clear water” in the jars, lost in thought.

Upon returning to Kao Village, Yang Wulang was anxiously pacing like an ant on a hot pan.

”Where have you been, miss? Several severe cases are waiting for treatment, and if you don’t return, your family will begin to stir,” Yang Wulang said, quickly taking her to the temporary isolation station in the woods.

The family members had only agreed to isolation because Yang Wulang and Director Xu promised treatment. Now, after three days without attention, some were naturally unwilling.
