I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 159: Chapter 158: Thrown Out (First Update, Please Vote!)

”It’s pneumonia,” Beisitian spoke.

Yang Wulang felt a tightness in his heart.

”Viral pneumonia,” Beisitian added.

Upon hearing this, Yang Wulang’s expression became grave.

With the current medical conditions, pneumonia itself is hard to treat, and if it’s viral pneumonia... it’s not only hard to treat but also contagious!

Some time ago, when Yang Wulang went to get medicine, he heard that recently, many patients with similar conditions were admitted to hospitals and clinics, of which seven out of ten diagnosed with viral pneumonia had died!

”What kind of pneumonia?” Mrs. Guo asked from the sidelines.

Yang Wulang didn’t know how to explain, so he just said it was a rather serious illness.

Upon hearing it was a serious illness, Mrs. Guo didn’t look pleased, as her grandson only had a fever, yet it was described as a serious illness.

Seeing this, Yang Wulang knew what she was thinking. In rural areas, people are superstitious about others saying negative things, as if saying it would make it true, whereas not saying it would make it go away.

The elderly couple didn’t like hearing this and weren’t anxious at all, but Yang Wulang was worried. This child couldn’t delay any longer. How could he persuade the two elders to take the child to the hospital?

It wasn’t that he forgot Beisitian was there, but he feared this illness was something even she couldn’t treat.

”Let’s open the window first,” Beisitian suggested.

The stuffy smell in the room was because they were trying to cover the child in sweat!

Viral pneumonia has many types, some of which are highly contagious, through inhaled air droplets. With the current closed indoor environment, those with weak immunity are easily infected.

Yang Wulang also thought of this and went and opened the window, causing the elderly couple to panic.

”Wulang, what are you doing! Close it quickly, what if the child catches a cold!” Mrs. Guo exclaimed with wide eyes.

Old Guo also rebuked, coughing several times as he spoke.

Beisitian glanced at him.

Mrs. Guo climbed onto the bed and closed the window, then angrily pushed Yang Wulang off the bed.

Yang Wulang was helpless. How could he argue with Mrs. Guo? After getting off the bed, he looked at Beisitian, hoping she could explain to the elderly couple.

”Go, go, go, you all better leave. We don’t understand what you’re saying anyway. Wulang, if you continue like this, we’d rather go to the neighboring village to find a doctor. Who opens windows when a child has a fever!” Mrs. Guo said angrily.

”It’s true... cough, cough, cough, we can’t do this, Wulang, we trust you... cough, cough, cough, but you, a grown-up, are listening to a young girl!” The more Old Guo spoke urgently, the harder he coughed.

”The old man is right. Instead of saying all these things, why don’t you get your uncle some cough lozenges!” Mrs. Guo said irritably.

”Cough medicine won’t work,” Beisitian suddenly said, ”Grandpa Guo is infected.”

Yang Wulang was shocked to hear this and quickly asked, ”Is Uncle having a fever?”

”Fever? What fever? The old man is fine, I’m coughing from smoking! Stop talking nonsense!” Old Guo said unhappily.

This young girl not only cursed his grandson but also cursed him!

In old age, one feared being spoken ill of!

”Alright, alright, you all hurry and leave, the old man... cough, cough, cough, needs to rest!” Being the elder, Old Guo quickly ushered them out.

The two of them couldn’t argue with the two elderly and didn’t dare to use much strength, so they were pushed out by Mrs. Guo.

Standing at the door, Yang Wulang was worried, not only for Guo Mingyang but also about what to do if the disease spread.

Initially, Yang Wulang hadn’t taken the rumors seriously, thinking they were far away. He never expected the illness to hit someone in the village, especially in a family that didn’t understand it. If it spread, the consequences would be unthinkable.

”Little Tian’er, we need to think of a solution!” Although Yang Wulang understood Beisitian knew the severity of this illness, he still recounted what he had heard.

”Of those diagnosed with viral pneumonia, seven out of ten have died. This was what happened at the township clinic some time ago. I didn’t take it seriously at first, and now it’s spreading so close!”

Beisitian was well aware of the severity of this illness, as she had encountered a similar epidemic in her past life. Although it wasn’t as terrifying as a plague, it still caused panic, and ordinary doctors couldn’t treat it. The Imperial Physicians stayed behind the palace walls. Ultimately, it was her master who called for Mystic Doctors from all over to lend a hand.

Her master held a significant reputation among Mystic Doctors. With his call, many retired Mystic Doctors came out, but there were too few Mystic Doctors. Although the outbreak was eventually controlled, many people still died!

The medical science of this world, although much more advanced, would also find dealing with such an epidemic very troublesome.

Beisitian didn’t know much about the medical level of this world and wasn’t sure how people here would defend against such an epidemic.

”Let’s go find the eldest of the Guo family!” Beisitian suggested.

Yang Wulang’s eyes lit up at the mention of Guo Jianye, a sensible man, and he believed he would understand if told.

Guo Jianye’s house was not far, just across the village path, but when Yang Wulang and Beisitian arrived, Guo Jianye wasn’t home. His wife said he had gone into the mountains.

Yang Wulang smiled bitterly. When it rains, it pours. Once a village hunter goes into the mountains, it could take one or two days. He could wait, but Guo Mingyang couldn’t!

”He left yesterday, should be back by tonight,” his wife added, not knowing why they had come.

”Oh dear sister, don’t speak in gasps!” Yang Wulang sighed, covering his forehead.

”What’s going on, so urgent!” Jianye’s wife wiped her hands on her apron, preparing to pour the two a glass of water.

”No need, no need, we’ll be leaving. If Jianye returns, have him go to Luo Er’s family, it’s a matter of life and death. If delayed, Little Yang’s life will be at risk!” Yang Wulang said.

Jianye’s wife turned pale and reassured them there would be no problem.

Leaving the Guo family, Beisitian remained silent. Yang Wulang, too, was worried, having heard that a severe epidemic could potentially wipe out an entire village!

He even considered sending his wife and children away to avoid risk.

”Uncle Yang, I’ll prepare some medicine for you to have the family drink,” Beisitian suddenly said.

Yang Wulang was delighted to hear this, ”Sure, sure, Little Tian’er’s medicine is the most effective!”

Beisitian went inside, telling Yang Wulang to sit in the east room and inform Luo Anguo and Mrs. Qin of the situation, while she went to the west room alone.

Viral pneumonia is not without treatment, but it takes a lot of spirit to handle it. Administering medicine to a large area would exhaust her and halt the treatment of Luo Anguo’s leg, which couldn’t be delayed.

Beisitian used Spiritual Talisman, quickly turning it into talismanic water, and when handing the four small bottles to Yang Wulang, instructed him not to dilute it with water, but to drink it straight.

Yang Wulang wasted no time, having his family drink the medicine before focusing on anything else.
