I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 158: Chapter 157: So, How Is He?

Yang Wulang said again, ”I’ve been using penicillin on that child these past two days. This kind of antibiotic is very effective, but the fever just won’t come down. And this medicine is quite expensive, the child’s grandmother isn’t too willing to use it.”

When it comes to illness, just listening to someone describe it isn’t enough to make a judgment. Beisitian pondered for a moment before saying, ”What do you think, Uncle Yang?”

Yang Wulang let out an awkward laugh, ”I’m just afraid of delaying the child. The child’s parents are working outside, and it’s just the grandparents at home. You know the couple from Old Guo’s family, they don’t understand anything. If the child really gets delayed, it would make the parents so worried. I was thinking if you have the time, you could come along to take a look.”

Mrs. Qin, hearing this, put down her work and looked at Beisitian as well.

Beisitian didn’t have much impression of this family, but seeing Mrs. Qin’s expression, it seemed like she also hoped she would go.

”Mom?”

Beisitian usually has her own ideas, and Mrs. Qin typically doesn’t give advice casually.

”I also hope you can go over. Aunt Guo is the one who taught me my craft. Without this skill, this family would have collapsed long ago.” Mrs. Qin learned her needlework from Mrs. Guo.

After speaking, Mrs. Qin felt a bit apologetic. Beisitian had been exhausted treating Luo Anguo’s leg recently and had just gotten a moment’s peace.

Beisitian smiled slightly. Even without Mrs. Qin saying anything, she planned to go. She was a doctor after all!

”Since they’ve done us a favor, we definitely should go.” Beisitian said with a smile, then turned to Yang Wulang, ”Uncle Yang, let’s go now.”

Although Yang Wulang didn’t know the reason, he knew Beisitian rarely acted lightly. He didn’t expect it to be so smooth this time. He got off the kang and headed out with his medicine box.

Old Guo’s family lived on the easternmost side of Kao Village, near the woods. Their eldest son, Guo Jianye, was a hunter. He was the one who taught Luo Anguo and Luo Aiguo brothers how to hunt, though unfortunately, Luo Aiguo lacked talent.

The second son, Guo Jianda, and his wife went to the city to work, usually returning once a year. The child Yang Wulang mentioned belonged to the second son, Guo Jianda.

As the two walked and talked, when they were almost at Old Guo’s family, Beisitian already had a rough judgment, but without seeing the person, she couldn’t make a definitive conclusion.

Old Guo’s family lived in the old-style house, similar to Luo Er’s family, made of mud mixed with wheat straw. Both the eldest and the second son had moved out to their own brick houses.

Being able to build brick houses for both sons was quite an achievement in the village, and Old Guo was always proud of it.

When Yang Wulang brought Beisitian there, Mrs. Guo was in the yard feeding chickens. Seeing Yang Wulang returning, she was puzzled.

”Wulang, why are you back again?” Mrs. Guo straightened up with the chicken feed.

Mrs. Guo had a head of gray hair, lots of wrinkles on her face, her face a bit sallow, but she wasn’t bulky.

”Aunt, I’m here to check on Little Yang again. It’s been a week of high fever, while others recovered. I’m a bit worried.” Yang Wulang said.

Mrs. Guo glanced at Beisitian standing next to him, ”What’s there to worry about? It’s just a fever. The kid in the front yard had a fever a while ago too, but he’s fine now! Who’s this kid? She looks familiar.”

”Grandma Guo, I’m from Luo Er’s family.” Beisitian spoke up when she heard herself mentioned.

”Luo Er’s family?” Mrs. Guo thought for a moment and then recognized her, breaking into a smile, ”Little Tian’er, hahahaha, come in, come in, you dealt with the Tyrant Zhang family, it gives me such joy!”

The Guo family had a previous conflict with the Zhang family over watering the fields. It wasn’t a big conflict, but the Old Zhang family called several cousins to corner and beat her two sons in the eastern woods, nearly causing long-term issues!

If those following the eldest Guo Jianye, several hunters, hadn’t arrived, they might have broken their legs. What would the eldest’s family rely on to live then?

Although there were helpers, they all had families and businesses, and no one wanted to offend the Tyrant Zhang family, making it impossible to get revenge. This matter had always been stuck in the family’s heart, making them angry and upset whenever remembered.

A while back, when Beisitian scared the three brothers into wetting their pants publicly, crying and begging for forgiveness, even kneeling and kowtowing to Mrs. Qin, just thinking about it relieved Mrs. Guo, making her even wish she had such a daughter-in-law!

”Little Tian’er, your mother has finally found happiness with a child like you!” Mrs. Guo was very affectionate towards Beisitian.

With a faint smile on her lips, Beisitian followed them inside. As she pulled back the curtain, she frowned at the stifling air that met her face.

Old Guo was rolling cigarettes on the kang, and although it was hot inside, he wore little, coughing occasionally.

”Old man, look who’s here, Little Tian’er, the one who dealt with the Tyrant Zhang family, from Luo Er’s family!” Mrs. Guo was genuinely happy and blurted out as soon as she entered.

Old Guo had gray hair too, with deep nasolabial folds. His eyes were small, and when he squinted, you couldn’t see his eyes.

”Uncle, I brought Little Tian’er to check on Little Yang.” Yang Wulang said.

”What’s there to see? Didn’t he get an IV drip today?” Old Guo was a bit confused, his gaze falling on Beisitian, who was intently watching the child by the kang.

Guo Mingyang was twelve after the new year. Without parents around, whether it was his grandparents or his uncle’s family, they all treated him well. The boy was quite mischievous, waking up every day to play wildly.

”I heard Little Tian’er is a doctor, how’s that?” Mrs. Guo said, not taking it seriously and in a joking tone.

Yang Wulang was somewhat displeased that they didn’t know Beisitian’s abilities. Did they think it was easy to get her here!

”Aunt, Little Tian’er is indeed capable; she cured Chun Shu’s mother!” Yang Wulang said.

Of course, Mrs. Guo had heard about it. But wasn’t it said at the time that the nail hadn’t pierced the heart? It could have healed even without treatment, they speculated.

If Yang Wulang knew what she was thinking, he might have laughed bitterly. Could that situation have healed on its own? Chun Shu’s mother would have had to be a divine being for that!

For Beisitian to come and see, the couple didn’t take it seriously, conversing instead about her dealing with the Tyrant Zhang family.

After a few more words, Yang Wulang glanced at Beisitian, noticing her expression growing increasingly grave. His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly asked, ”How is it?”

Old Guo tapped his pipe on the edge of the kang, saying, ”It’s nothing, the child doesn’t have major illnesses, just minor ones, cough cough... No big deal, don’t worry.”

Seeing Beisitian’s silence, Yang Wulang gently lifted Guo Mingyang’s eyelids and slightly opened his jaw, but it was too dark indoors to see anything clearly.

”How is it?” Yang Wulang had never seen Beisitian look so grave before.
