I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 170: Chapter 169: Didn’t Mention Money

”One has a temperature of thirty-seven point six, and the other is thirty-seven point nine,” Aunt Li said to Beisitian, holding a small notebook.

Beisitian nodded, stepped forward to examine the elderly and the child patients, noticed their listless and somewhat dazed expressions, asked them a few questions, and then said to Yang Wulang, ”Uncle Yang, I’ll prepare some medicine for them tonight to help reduce the inflammation. Once the temperature drops completely, we can observe them for a few more days, and then they can leave.”

”Alright, I’ll come by to get the medicine tonight,” Yang Wulang replied.

Beisitian nodded again, feeling more at ease with Yang Wulang handling the medicine distribution.

The news of Old Zhang and the Li Family’s grandson’s temperature drop quickly spread by word of mouth to the ears of waiting family members outside.

Old Zhang’s wife and sons were moved to tears, while the Li Family man happily kept saying that heaven had eyes.

Others saw a glimmer of hope and felt somewhat relieved from their heavy hearts.

Before Beisitian could leave, Xu Youcai arrived, with Yang Wulang looking somewhat displeased. That day, when he mentioned the issue of paying for someone to take care of the patients to Xu Youcai, Xu merely dodged the topic, never agreeing to bear the cost.

This matter hadn’t been discussed with Beisitian yet.

”Director Xu is here,” Beisitian said with a faint smile.

”Xiao Bei is remarkable. I heard this morning that two people’s temperatures have dropped. How are they?” Xu Youcai said with a cheerful smile.

”They are awake now,” Yang Wulang chimed in.

Xu Youcai was greatly surprised, ”Awake? They’ve really recovered from the fever?”

”Director Xu doesn’t believe it?” Yang Wulang asked, raising his eyebrows.

”How could I not? With the village’s two outstanding doctors here, I have no reason to doubt,” Xu, however, wasn’t entirely convinced, having heard that the vaccine researched by experts had undergone clinical trials and was being produced in large cities.

No recovery news had come in from the Capital yet, and his small Kao Village was already ahead?

Beisitian smiled and said to Yang Wulang, ”Uncle Yang, you should get some rest. There’s no urgent matter here for now.”

Yang Wulang nodded, opened his mouth to mention Xu Youcai’s refusal to pay, but found it inappropriate to voice it publicly.

After Yang Wulang left, Beisitian said, ”There will be more progress over the next few days with those two patients. Director Xu, please wait for news.”

Xu Youcai chuckled, ”Alright, let me know when there’s news.”

He thought Beisitian might also bring up the issue of the payment, but unexpectedly, it wasn’t mentioned from start to finish.

When Yang Wulang talked to him, he guessed it was mostly this young wife’s idea, though he didn’t expect she wouldn’t mention it.

If they really could cure them, he didn’t mind paying, but he feared it was only a temporary fever drop, not a true recovery.

Xu Youcai wasn’t sure if pneumonia would subside without being cured. He was wary of being deceived since if they were really cured, it needed to be reported. Reporting false information would be more than embarrassing; it could cost him his position.

Beisitian stayed until the evening. When both patients’ temperatures dropped to thirty-six point five or six, she immediately had them drink another small bottle of talismanic water.

Although their fevers had subsided, their mental states were poor, still consumed by the illness.

”Grandma Guo, sister-in-law, make something dry for them to eat. You can also prepare what your son likes, just keep it light,” Beisitian advised.

The family wife gratefully nodded, tentatively asking if they could go in to see them, but seeing Beisitian shake her head, she was somewhat disappointed.

After Beisitian left, Mrs. Guo glanced at the wife, ”Li Family’s wife, don’t be ungrateful. Doctor Bei has been so conscientious. Look at how exhausted she is.”

Li Mengxia quickly waved her hand, ”Granny, I’m not ungrateful. I just wanted to see my son. I’m not grateful enough to Doctor Bei to be ungrateful.”

”As long as you are not!” Mrs. Guo said.

She had observed Beisitian and Yang Wulang these days, noting their sincere and dedicated efforts, with Beisitian taking the lead in the treatment, while Yang Wulang assisted.

With her husband and grandson inside, she felt their efforts the most profoundly, and seeing Beisitian and Yang Wulang working so hard stirred her emotions, not allowing anyone to say anything negative about them.

Yang Wulang continued to watch over them at night, as he couldn’t let Beisitian, a young girl, stay out there alone late at night. Besides, it seemed preparation of medicine exhausted Beisitian’s energy, and she needed more rest.

After the last routine temperature check at night, one of the patients’ temperatures showed a downward trend, already falling below 39°.

The next morning, he told Beisitian the news as she arrived.

Beisitian was not surprised. Her prepared medicine, although less immediate in effect than for Wu Yuekai, took four or five days to show results.

The medication’s efficacy also depended on the individual’s constitution; for instance, Mrs. Guo’s grandson was more severely ill, with a relatively average constitution, so it took longer to take effect.

Since yesterday, Beisitian had started having the two awakened individuals eat coarse grains and vegetables, which helped their recovery significantly.

White steamed buns weren’t available in every household, but coarse grains certainly were, requiring little effort to manage.

By the afternoon, Beisitian checked on the two, finding their mental states much improved from yesterday, with normal, stable body temperatures for twenty-four hours.

Yang Wulang measured their heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure, all within normal ranges, indicating that the two viral pneumonia patients had recovered!

”Can they leave today?” Yang Wulang’s hands trembled slightly, amazed that they had actually healed!

Although he had known they would recover when their temperatures lowered, the actual healing still thrilled him.

”Let them go home for recuperation. Remember, if there’s phlegm, it must be coughed out. Drink plenty of water, and stick to light, easily digestible food!” Beisitian instructed the two patients.

”I’ll tell their families when the time comes,” Yang Wulang said with a grin.

Li Mengxia stood by the large iron pot, unable to believe her eyes as she watched her son walk out. She had even prepared herself for him not coming out!

”Son!” Li Mengxia rushed to embrace her son, tears flowing profusely. If not for Yang Wulang and Mrs. Guo consoling her, she didn’t know how long she would have cried.

Yang Wulang repeated Beisitian’s words, emphasizing the importance of adherence.

”Sister-in-law, you take the child home. I’ll find someone else to do the cooking,” Beisitian said, looking at the conflicted woman.

The Li Family’s wife, on hearing this, was so grateful she nearly kneeled before Beisitian.

”Doctor Bei, you saved our family. This child is our lifeblood!” The Li Family’s wife said, crying.
