I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 169: Chapter 168: Doctor Bei

Being caught by that warm large hand, Beisitian’s heart went ’thump’, as if something had lightly struck it.

Looking at Luo Xudong again, his eyes were still closed, and he hadn’t woken up.

Beisitian gently struggled a bit, realizing his grip was tight, pursed her lips, and had to use her other hand to pry it open.

Carefully flipping Luo Xudong’s body over, upon seeing that patch of wounds again, Beisitian still felt quite apprehensive.

She asked Ma Xiaoling for hot water to cleanse her hands, needed a large basin of hot water, and then prepared the external flesh-cutting knife.

For the suppurating area on Luo Xudong’s back, she needed to wipe it away with medicated cotton; if unable to wipe away, she would need to use the external knife.

Luo Xudong had many and large wounds, but fortunately not much suppuration; after cleaning it with medicated cotton, it was clear and didn’t require the external knife.

Using alcohol to meticulously clean the wound once, Beisitian applied talisman powder with medicated cotton, gently wiping it on the wound.

There was likely only one chance to treat this wound, so Beisitian was extraordinarily meticulous and careful, aiming to address every spot.

She wiped talisman powder on the wound twice, ensuring every spot was attended to, then wrapped the upper body with bandages.

Having completed these tasks, Beisitian’s forehead was already sweating. The talisman powder she used for Luo Xudong was the finest external Xuan Talisman preparation, greatly consuming spirit, but highly effective for treating external injuries.

Having cleared everything away, Beisitian began making the internal-use Xuan Talisman, mainly for reducing fever and treating internal inflammation.

The three Xuan Talismans made Beisitian look weary. When Luo Xudong wakes tomorrow, his condition will improve, making her efforts worthwhile.

Thinking back to Luo Xudong delivering ginseng slices late at night, Beisitian couldn’t help but smile, repaying this favor of yours!

Luo Xudong lay on his side, deeply asleep, while Beisitian packed everything into a bag and took it away.

In the front hall, she encountered Ma Xiaoling, and Beisitian said, ”Don’t disturb him; he’ll be fine when he wakes up after the fever breaks tomorrow.”

Ma Xiaoling quickly nodded in agreement; with Beisitian’s reassurance, she wouldn’t feel obliged to visit him.

”When is Assistant Ma returning?” Beisitian asked casually.

”I heard it should be the day after tomorrow or the day after that,” Ma Xiaoling replied.

Beisitian nodded and left, heading back home by donkey cart as she wasn’t in the condition to walk.

Upon reaching home, she fell onto the bed and slept soundly until noon the next day before feeling restored.

In the pot were the meals Mrs. Qin had left for her; lifting the lid revealed steaming hot food, which she ate at the stove.

A dish of pork stewed with noodles, stir-fried shrimp skin with bok choy, and some cornmeal porridge.

Having eaten, Beisitian was about to visit the temporary isolation center when she was called by Mrs. Qin.

”Little Tian’er, whose call was it yesterday? Why come back so exhausted?” Mrs. Qin asked.

Beisitian had almost forgotten about this detail; she couldn’t tell them about Luo Xudong’s issue, and explaining Wu Yuekai’s situation, which could involve Luo Xudong, wasn’t ideal. Using Bao Niang Embroidery Workshop as an excuse was still the best option.

”Mom, Sister Bao Li wasn’t feeling well, so I went to take a look,” Beisitian said, smiling wryly inside, having to pull Sister Bao Li out as cover again.

This time, Mrs. Qin seemed suspicious, looking at Beisitian earnestly and saying, ”Little Tian’er, you have to weigh some matters yourself; external people’s words shouldn’t be trusted too easily, especially men’s. Sometimes what they say is just to coax women.”

What does she mean by this?

Beisitian quickly grasped Mrs. Qin’s meaning, blushing deeply and feeling slightly amused yet helpless, ”Mom, that’s not it!”

But after thinking it over, Mrs. Qin wasn’t entirely wrong; she did indeed go to see a man this time, though the man was her nominal husband and Mrs. Qin’s own son.

This topic was hard to continue discussing; seeing Mrs. Qin’s skeptical expression, Beisitian found it difficult to explain further and hurriedly left the house.

The woods at the east end of the village were rarely visited, but now, even before entering the woods, one could see people sitting nearby.

A lot of these people were family members; though they couldn’t go in, they weren’t hindered from staying nearby, and seeing Beisitian approach, many stood up.

”Doctor Bei is here,” someone eagerly said, greeting Beisitian.

The title ’Doctor Bei’ had not been used by the villagers for a long time; if not for this pneumonia outbreak, perhaps no one would have referred to her as such.

This title gradually spread, initially only used by some family members wanting news about their relatives. Recently, villagers started calling her this way too.

”Doctor Bei, how’s my dad?”

”Doctor Bei, has my daughter’s fever subsided?”

”Doctor Bei...”

”Doctor Bei...”

As Beisitian walked past, several people followed behind her. She patiently responded to each one, having a clear understanding of each patient’s condition, greatly reassuring these family members and gaining their trust.

These people followed all the way to 100 meters outside the isolation center before being stopped by hunters. Beisitian continued walking, seeing Mrs. Guo sitting in front of an iron pot, preparing lunch.

Beisitian approached, took out two small paper packets, and said to Mrs. Guo, ”Grandma Guo, here’s today’s medicine.”

Mrs. Guo busily wiped her hands on her apron and took them.

Even if Beisitian wasn’t there every day, the medicine was sure to arrive; Mrs. Guo extinguished the fire, letting the porridge cool a bit before adding the two packets.

Inside was porridge, but it was all expertly matched Chinese herbal medicines by Beisitian, concocted with white rice to make porridge soup.

Yang Wulang emerged from the isolation center, his face and chin covered in stubble, having not attended to it for days, shadows heavy under his eyes, yet his face smiled.

”Little Tian’er, two have woken up!”

Those cooking, Mrs. Guo and Li Mengxia, pricked their ears immediately.

”Old Zhang from the west village woke up, and Old Li’s grandson woke up!” Yang Wulang’s voice was cheerful.

Li Mengxia, being Old Li’s daughter-in-law, upon hearing, covered her mouth with both hands, tears instantly welled up, uncontrollably falling.

Her son had woken up!

Mrs. Guo didn’t lose hope; if Beisitian could cure others, she certainly could cure her husband and grandson!

”Don’t cry, don’t cry; with the child awake, you should smile!” Mrs. Guo said to the daughter-in-law.

Li Mengxia nodded repeatedly, wiping away tears with both arms, sobbing aloud.

Beisitian followed Yang Wulang into the isolation center.

Inside the isolation center, one old and one young had already been moved to the outermost cabin and were now looking up at the ceiling with open eyes.
