I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 171: Chapter 170: Qiao Xianhong Has Arrived

”Aunt Chen, come and get Uncle Chen!” a hunter shouted from the edge of the forest.

This shout made those waiting outside stand up, each craning their necks to look in that direction. They had heard that someone woke up yesterday, but didn’t know who it was. So, could it be Old Chen?

Old Mrs. Chen, supported by her son and daughter-in-law, quickly walked into the forest, her hands trembling slightly with fear. Although they said someone had woken up, her husband’s health had never been good. What if... what if something happened...

Old Mrs. Chen could barely bring herself to think further.

The three of them quickly entered the forest and stopped in front of two large iron pots, waiting as the hunter instructed.

The hunter swiftly walked toward the quarantine area. Having taken Beisitian’s medicine, and with their previously good health, none of them had contracted the illness despite frequent comings and goings.

”Aunt Li, bring someone out.” The hunter called out from the outside. Only four people could go in: Beisitian and Yang Wulang, along with Aunt Li and a young woman from the west of the village.

The thick curtain was lifted, and Aunt Li, along with the young woman, helped an old man out. The old man’s legs were weak, and he walked unsteadily and with short steps.

Old Mrs. Chen immediately spotted her husband and her eyes filled with tears. She covered her mouth with her hand and began to weep.

The children had all moved away, leaving the two old ones to depend on each other. If her husband was gone, she no longer had the will to live.

”Dad!”

Old Mrs. Chen’s son shouted and wanted to go over, but was stopped by the hunter, ”You haven’t taken Doctor Bei’s preventive medicine; it’s easy to get infected if you go over!”

Old Chen was brought over to the large iron pot before being handed to his family. Aunt Li said, ”Doctor Bei says, after you go back, drink plenty of water, make sure to cough up any phlegm, keep your home ventilated, and eat more light and easily digestible food.”

”Alright, alright, we got it.” Old Chen’s son heard the name ’Doctor Bei’ for the second time, his tone and demeanor full of admiration, even a hint of respect could be felt.

Old Chen’s family slowly walked out of the forest, and Li Family’s wife also received her son. She hugged him tightly, crying and laughing, feeling as if a lifetime had passed after not seeing him for several days.

”Mom will make sure to nourish you well when we get back; your little face has become so thin.” Li Family’s wife caressed her son’s sallow face, heart aching with love.

The young woman from the west of the village chimed in, ”Sister-in-law, remember what Doctor Bei said: eat light and easily digestible food!”

”Right, right, we must follow Doctor Bei’s advice!” Li Family’s wife tapped her mouth as she almost forgot.

The people outside the forest did not sit down after Old Chen’s family went in, all staring intently inside.

Soon, they saw the family helping Old Chen out, followed by Li Family’s wife and grandson.

A man in the crowd shouted excitedly and ran toward them. That was his wife and son!

The waiting people instinctively moved forward, seeing two of the people they had sent in, alive and well, bringing an uproar.

”The village chief didn’t lie to us, Wulang didn’t lie to us, it really can be cured! It really can be cured!”

Someone shouted, and others joined in. Some, after shouting, ran home to share the good news with their family.

Xu Youcai heard from Beisitian that someone was leaving the quarantine area today, and arrived just in time to hear people shouting, joy spreading in his heart, his steps feeling lighter.

A group of people surrounded Xu Youcai with praise, and the two families retrieving their loved ones thanked him repeatedly, while Xu Youcai couldn’t stop smiling.

”The village chief is a good person! Doctor Bei said that the quarantine area was set up by Director Xu, and the people taking care of us were hired by the village chief. It’s thanks to the village chief thinking of everything that we have a shelter from the wind and rain! We common people are fortunate to have such a good official!” Old Chen, with tears streaming down his face, said while being supported by his son and wife.

Moved by Old Chen’s words, Xu Youcai gripped his wrinkled hands, repeatedly saying, ”It’s what we should do! It’s what we should do! We are all comrades of the people; we should support each other through difficult times!”

With the cured going home, those still waiting didn’t find it as unbearable. With successful cases, hope was alive.

When Beisitian arrived, Xu Youcai was at the iron pot, comforting the hunters and Mrs. Guo and others.

”Xiao Bei is here, you are truly a Divine Doctor, rightly the daughter of Doctor Bei!” Xu Youcai praised.

During his many years in Kao Village, the villagers had never been this warm to him! This was very advantageous for his annual review!

The only regret was that many cities had already reported recovery cases. Otherwise, if Kao Village had been the first with a recovery case, it would have caused a major stir, and as the village director, he might even have been interviewed.

Even if reported now, it wouldn’t be as significant as before!

However, this also meant there was no worry about villagers affording vaccines, which was a good thing.

Beisitian turned to Yang Wulang and said, ”Uncle Yang, we might need to find new caregivers.”

Yang Wulang frowned, ”What’s going on? We can’t find anyone willing to do this now. No one wants to do it, not even for two dollars a day. If they get infected, it would cost their lives.”

Beisitian sighed, ”Aren’t we out of money to pay wages? If it’s two dollars a day, Aunt Li and the others might still be able to hold on for a while, but it’s impossible to bear caring day and night.”

Hearing this, Xu Youcai quickly said, ”The wages will be covered by the village committee. Tell them to hold on for a while longer, and if everyone recovers well, there will be a reward at the end!”

”The village chief is indeed a true leader, with a high level of awareness!” Beisitian complimented.

Yang Wulang finally understood Beisitian’s intent; Little Tian’er was skilled at getting Xu Youcai to voluntarily offer help.

Not only did Xu Youcai agree to pay Aunt Li and the others, but he also covered the costs of repairing the temporary quarantine area. Moreover, even the hunters would receive some reward, making everyone happy.

Without further worries, Beisitian and Yang Wulang devoted themselves to the treatment, and within the next three days, two more people recovered and left.

During this time, while fear permeated cities big and small, a small village under the mountains maintained a less tense atmosphere.

”Doctor Bei, Aunt Qin is calling you back; someone has come to your house, a soldier,” a hunter came in and said.

Beisitian nodded, gave Yang Wulang some instructions, and then headed home.

A soldier? There’s no way Luo Xudong could be back, so who could it be?

When she got home, Beisitian found Qiao Xianhong sitting on the bench, drinking water.
