I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 168: Chapter 167: Borrowing Supplies

The wound on Luo Xudong’s back had turned into this state, and Beisitian quickly figured out the reason.

This injury must not be exposed to light, otherwise he wouldn’t ignore treatment. And he couldn’t reach his back, nor could he perform simple first aid, which led to this condition.

”Are you trying to kill yourself?” Beisitian understood, slightly touched. How could anyone endure such pain day and night under normal circumstances?

Fortunately, it was discovered in time.

Beisitian needed cotton bandages and hot water. She knew she couldn’t let others know about Luo Xudong’s injury, so she pondered how to obtain these items without leaving a trace.

After thinking it over, Beisitian couldn’t come up with a better plan. If she didn’t know Luo Xudong’s identity, she wouldn’t have any concerns, but knowing it made her more cautious.

Jishi Pharmacy probably isn’t as calm on the inside as it appears on the surface.

Beisitian couldn’t hesitate. She thought for a moment, covered Luo Xudong with a quilt, and left his room.

”Miss Bei, how is it?” As Beisitian entered the front hall, Ma Xiaoling immediately approached and asked.

She was eager to know if Mr. Zhou had contracted viral pneumonia. In the rush to save him, she hadn’t considered it, but later, she felt a chill when she remembered. If Mr. Zhou had the disease, wasn’t she also at risk?

”Don’t worry, it’s not pneumonia. It’s a fever caused by seasonal changes. Whether it will turn into something more serious is still unknown, but for now, stay clear of that area.” said Beisitian.

Ma Xiaoling nodded quickly. With someone else taking over the matter, she certainly wouldn’t risk it herself.

”Miss Bei, where are you going?” Ma Xiaoling asked hastily.

She was worried that if Beisitian left, no one would be there to look after Zhou Jiren, and it would fall back on her. Although this could be an opportunity for a promotion, the risk was too great, and she dared not take it.

”To get some Chinese medicine.” Beisitian replied without turning her head.

Only then did Ma Xiaoling realize that Beisitian was a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. She was just a shop assistant and didn’t understand professional medical knowledge. Zhou Jiren was the leader, so she didn’t dare to prescribe medicine casually.

After leaving, Beisitian did go to the Chinese medicine pharmacy, grabbing some medicine for expelling dampness and reducing fever. After filling the prescription, she didn’t return to Jishi Pharmacy but went to the courtyard.

Wu Yuekai must be aware of Luo Xudong’s identity.

At this moment, who else could she turn to!

Beisitian found a passing donkey cart to take her there.

The courtyard was just like before, with all the stationed soldiers in place, but the atmosphere was no longer as serious.

Beisitian had no doubt that her medicine would work, so she wasn’t surprised.

She wasn’t surprised, but Li Xuejun was quite shocked.

Seeing Beisitian, Li Xuejun no longer exhibited the previous wary expression, and he quickly approached, ”Comrade Xiao Bei, you’re here. The old chief has been thinking about you! I never expected you to...”

At this point, Li Xuejun stopped speaking, as the old chief had instructed not to discuss this for the time being.

Li Xuejun’s gaze toward Beisitian had changed. He truly hadn’t expected Beisitian to be so capable, actually curing viral pneumonia!

Beisitian entered the old chief’s room and saw Wu Yuekai sitting on the bed, drinking the talismanic water she had left.

”Girl, you’re here. Have a seat. Xiao Li, pour some water.” Wu Yuekai put on a coat and got out of bed.

”Okay!” Li Xuejun responded.

”Sir, I wanted to speak with you privately for a moment.” Beisitian said.

Upon hearing this, Li Xuejun wisely withdrew, closing the door as he left.

Wu Yuekai sat down on a chair and looked at Beisitian.

”Sir, I came this time to borrow a few items from you.” Beisitian said.

Wu Yuekai was startled. Borrow something? ”What do you want to borrow?”

Could it be that something urgent happened at home, and she urgently needed money?

This was Wu Yuekai’s first thought, and he immediately started calculating how much money he could lend her.

”I’d like to borrow some gauze, cotton, and medical disinfectant alcohol.” said Beisitian.

Wu Yuekai was taken aback, ”What?”

Beisitian repeated patiently another time.

Wu Yuekai was greatly surprised. These things could easily be bought at pharmacies or health clinics; why come to him for such items under the guise of ’borrowing’?

”Girl, may I ask what you need these for?”

”For treating injuries.” Beisitian smiled, ”You know this person, it’s Mr. Zhou from Jishi Pharmacy.”

Wu Yuekai’s eyes widened slightly, then he squinted at the smiling Beisitian and asked, ”He’s running a pharmacy, why would he need to borrow these things from me?”

”It’s because I’m close to you, Mr. Zhou is currently feverish and unconscious. Without his say, their attendants won’t give me anything.” Beisitian half-joked.

Feverish and unconscious?!

Wu Yuekai felt a heaviness in his heart. This task wasn’t his, and he didn’t know many details, especially not about Luo Xudong’s injury.

”I’m glad you’re close to me, girl.” Wu Yuekai said absent-mindedly. Aside from worrying about Luo Xudong, he was also pondering how much Beisitian knew.

After all, her asking him for these items in the first place was strange. If she knew nothing, she would have taken them directly from Jishi Pharmacy.

He certainly didn’t believe the story about the attendants refusing to give her things.

These items were easy to procure. In the span of drinking a cup of tea, everything was delivered in a fairly large bag, and Beisitian left with it.

Just as she went out, Wu Yuekai called his orderly, ”Go, and erase all traces of the girl’s visit here.”

If Beisitian knew about Luo Xudong’s identity, then her visit was likely aimed at erasing traces, with borrowing the items being secondary.

How did this girl find out?

Wu Yuekai felt it was about right, especially considering Beisitian’s keen intellect, capable of noticing subtle hints from even the smallest details. This observation and analytical ability surpassed most people.

Beisitian, carrying the items, returned with peace of mind. From Wu Yuekai’s expression, she reckoned he had sensed something. Whether he realized it or not, knowing about Luo Xudong’s injury, he would do everything he could to eliminate any traces of her.

Not being targeted by the enemy was the greatest protection she could offer Luo Xudong.

”Miss Bei, why did you buy so many things?” Ma Xiaoling couldn’t see what was inside the brown bag, although her nose did catch a slight scent of traditional Chinese medicine.

”Just in case.” Beisitian replied.

”Better safe than sorry!” Ma Xiaoling nodded repeatedly. Should it develop into viral pneumonia and leadership changed, they may also face changes, not to mention, although Zhou Jiren was somewhat indifferent, he wasn’t strict with them, the attendants.

When Beisitian entered, Luo Xudong hadn’t yet woken up. The amount of anesthetic she administered wouldn’t wear off until evening, sparing him the pain when she scraped away the festering flesh.

Beisitian sat by the bed, reached to pull down his quilt, but as soon as she raised her hand, it was grabbed by that large hand again.
