Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 136 GTZA674 Steam TurbineChapter 136 GTZA-674 Steam Turbine

Kovlevich widened his eyes, turned around in surprise, and looked at Lin Chenran who was smiling beside him in disbelief.

He could never have imagined that Lin Chenran would tell him so directly that he wanted the gas turbine technology and production line.

Could it be that the 760-horsepower four-stroke V-12-cylinder V-46 diesel engine from last time still cannot satisfy Lin Chenran’s “appetite”?
Although he was surprised, in Kovlevich’s eyes, there was nothing in the Russian country’s technology and military products that could not be sold.

Especially for people like him, profit is the most important thing.

As long as the price is right, everything is negotiable.

The last transaction not only brought Kovlevich a generous ”reward”.

More importantly, he successfully attracted the attention and appreciation of senior leaders.

Today, his status has risen rapidly, and he even has connections with big shots, becoming an indispensable and important ”assistant” to them.

So when Lin Chenran openly proposed to buy gas turbines from Kovlevich, Kovlevich immediately realized that this was another excellent opportunity.

Because this is his area of expertise and he has absolute say.

Moreover, he has the support of big shots behind him, so it can be said that he is foolproof.

”Lin, let’s clink another bottle!”

Kovlevich did not agree, but Lin Chenran saw a hint of greed in his eyes.

This shows that Kovlevich has been moved.

Next it’s time to talk about price and profit distribution.

The Red Romance Tavern is crowded and noisy, so it is not a suitable place for negotiations.

No one can guarantee whether there are KGB agents lurking here. If they happen to hear the news and report it, then Kovlevich will probably have to escape early.

To avoid this from happening, caution must be exercised.

Although the possibility is small, it is still necessary to be prepared.

The entire domestic situation in the Russian bear country is now turbulent.

Especially areas close to continental Europe.

A large number of KGB agents were sent to carry out missions, making the domestic security situation tense.

After Lin Chenran and Kovlevich each drank three bottles of vodka, a faint blush appeared on their faces, but neither of them was drunk.

Compared to the two of them, the senior executives of the 077 Mechanical Arsenal sitting next to them seemed to have poor alcohol tolerance.

But it is understandable!

This is a high-proof vodka, and it is easy to get drunk if you drink it straight away.

”Let’s go!” Lin Chenran and Kovlevich looked at each other, then stood up in tacit understanding and prepared to leave the Red Romantic Tavern.

Lin Chenran raised his hand and signaled the bartender of the Red Romantic Tavern to come over and settle the bill.

Everyone left the Red Romance Tavern and came to the apartment that Kovlevich had bought before.

Although Kovlevich now has a lot of money in his hands, he still prefers this apartment. It is close to the base of the Russian Far East Fleet and is very convenient to enter and exit.

After arriving at the apartment, Kovlevich asked someone to bring each person a cup of hot tea.

After a while, the hot tea was served and Lin Chenran took a sip.

Then he got straight to the point and stated his purpose directly: ”Kovlevich, I came to the Russian Bear this time, in addition to looking at the deal between us, I also want your help to introduce the GTZA-674 steam turbine, as well as related technologies and production lines.” (I moved the manufacturing date of the 965 missile destroyer forward by two years, that is, the Far East Fleet currently has this missile destroyer. There is no way, the Type 61 destroyer is too old!)
”Lin, the GTZA-674 steam turbine is sold as a finished product. I can recommend it to you, but you want the relevant technology and production line, which is simply impossible to obtain.”

”As you know, this GTZA-674 steam turbine is the power output component of our 965 missile destroyer,” said Kovlevich.

”You also know that our Far East Fleet is only equipped with one 965 missile destroyer, so you understand my difficulties,” Kovlevich continued.

Lin Chenran naturally understood what Kovlevich meant. Without huge benefits, the other party would never easily give up the GTZA-674 steam turbine.

”Kovlevich, this time I come to negotiate with you with sincerity.” Lin Chenran looked at Kovlevich sincerely.

”You should know that mainstream warships now use gas turbines and nuclear-powered turbines. The era of steam is long gone.” Lin Chenran smiled slightly and continued to belittle the role of steam turbines.

Without any disparagement, how could we possibly get the steam turbine technology from the Russians?

The steam turbine technology required is not only for the Aegis missile destroyer, but also for providing a steady supply of power to the aircraft carrier behind it.

As the mainstream choice for modern warship power systems, gas turbines have been widely adopted by countries around the world.

Steam turbines have gradually been marginalized. Except for a few countries such as Russia that still insist on using them, other countries have long abandoned them.

The reason is that it is too troublesome! Although steam turbines can generate huge thrust, they require a lot of tedious preparation work to actually operate.

It is said that even after warships using steam turbines return to port, the steam turbines still need to continue running to ensure that the equipment operates normally.

This situation undoubtedly increases maintenance and operating costs, making it prohibitive for many countries.

Kovlevich is well aware that steam turbines are indeed outdated and old compared to gas turbines.

However, this technology still has value that cannot be ignored.

”Lin, I understand your needs, but I cannot make the decision on my own regarding the purchase of the GTZA-674 steam turbine and related technologies and production lines.”

”However, I will report your idea to my superiors and wait for the decision of the top management.” There was a greedy light flashing in Kovlevich’s eyes, and there was no sign of weakening.

Lin Xiao nodded with satisfaction: ”Okay, Kovlevich, we should uphold the principle of win-win cooperation. I plan to stay in Vladivostok for a week. If there is any new progress or news, please keep me informed.”

Seeing this, the heavy stone hanging in Lin Chenran’s heart finally fell slowly.

As long as Kovlevich does not directly refuse, it means that there is still room and possibility for discussion on this matter.

So, the two began to chat again, but they were all irrelevant topics. After chatting for a while, Lin Chenran raised his head, glanced at the night scene outside the window, then stood up and said goodbye to Kovlevich.

He knew very well that he had to give Kovlevich enough time and space so that he could report to his superiors in a timely manner.

As soon as Lin Chenran left the apartment, Kovlevich followed suit and headed towards the base of the Soviet Far East Fleet.

”General Leo, here comes the big business!”
