Building a Technological Power Starting with the Type 59 missile and Going Astray in Technological Development

Chapter 120: ”Falling in a Big Fall” on the Black Hawk HelicopterChapter 120: A Big Failure on a Black Hawk Helicopter

Upon hearing this, Mr. Wei sighed deeply and said solemnly, ”You should be aware of the situation of the 24 Black Hawk helicopters that we purchased.”

It turns out that the Black Hawk helicopters purchased by our country are not military versions, but improved civilian versions.

Although the Black Hawk helicopters are equipped with new engines, which greatly improve their high-altitude performance.

Since they are civilian versions, they are not equipped with weapon mounts, which makes them unable to carry weapons.

Although these Black Hawk helicopters are used for important tasks in snowy areas, such as search and rescue, airlift of supplies, and disaster relief, their lack of combat capability undoubtedly reduces their value.

This also means that they cannot be used to replace the old Z-5 helicopters in the hands of the Yan State military.

The Yan State military began to think about how to use the Black Hawk helicopter as a template for imitation.

They hope to be able to create a helicopter with similar performance but with weapons mounting capabilities to meet national defense needs.

”Uh? Mr. Wei, could it be that the plan to imitate the Black Hawk helicopter has encountered a major obstacle?”

Lin Chenran asked cautiously.

If it were not for this reason, Mr. Wei would not have specifically asked whether his own 077 Mechanical Military Factory had designed and developed a new helicopter.

”Ok!”

Old Wei nodded, his face heavy.

”The Black Hawk helicopter has really hit a snag.”

His brows furrowed tightly.

As an advanced military equipment, the Black Hawk helicopter’s complex structure and highly confidential technical measures make it extremely difficult to copy.

It has built-in multiple mechanisms to prevent reverse engineering to ensure that its technology cannot be easily copied.

For example, some systems will self-destruct once they are disassembled, which makes it extremely difficult to copy them.

In addition, the composite materials used in the Black Hawk helicopter are also very complex, and Yan Country is unable to replicate them for the time being.

……

These factors directly lead to unprecedented challenges in replicating the Black Hawk helicopter.

Faced with this situation, two different voices emerged within the Yan State military.

Some senior officials believe that resources should continue to be invested in the research and development of the Black Hawk helicopter. After all, this helicopter has demonstrated powerful performance. If its technology can be mastered, it will greatly enhance the military strength of Yan Country.

Another group of senior executives, however, advocated independent research and development of new helicopters, solving technical problems through their own efforts and innovation, and avoiding over-reliance on foreign technology.

These two views each have their supporters, which directly triggered heated discussions.

After listening to Mr. Wei’s introduction, Lin Chenran frowned.

It is almost impossible to successfully copy the Black Hawk helicopter.

In the past, from the introduction of Black Hawk helicopters in 1984 to the birth of its own domestically-produced Z-20 helicopter, such a long time has passed, but it has still not been able to imitate the Black Hawk helicopter.

So he decided to ask Mr. Wei what the Yan country’s military leaders thought: ”Mr. Wei, which plan do you support?”

It is crucial to understand the direction of support from the top military officials of Yan State.

At least we need to know the ”pathogen” before we can prescribe the right medicine.

Elder Wei sighed and replied, ”Lin, when we first introduced the Black Hawk helicopter from Eagle Sauce, we hoped to copy it.”

”But we underestimated how difficult this would be.”

”There are a variety of mechanisms in place inside the Black Hawk helicopter to prevent reverse engineering, and some of these systems will automatically destroy themselves once they disintegrate, making it impossible for us to copy them.”

Mr. Wei’s tone was full of regret and helplessness, and he seemed to feel extremely sorry for this fact.

Originally they thought that there would be no problem in introducing civilian Black Hawk helicopters because as long as they could bring them back to the country, they could copy them.

As a result, a major setback occurred with the Black Hawk helicopter, which is almost impossible to imitate.

”Since it cannot be copied, let’s develop it ourselves!”

Lin Chenran spoke with a smile on his face and full of confidence.

There is really no point in copying the Black Hawk helicopter.

It will be automatically destroyed in no time. …

Although the Black Hawk helicopter has excellent performance, it is one of the helicopters with the most accidents due to various technical problems.

So Lin Chenran’s idea was to develop a new type of helicopter instead of imitating the Black Hawk helicopter.

There is no point in copying the Black Hawk helicopter.

”Self-study?”

Mr. Wei didn’t expect that Lin Chenran would have the idea of developing his own helicopter, and the other party was so pessimistic about imitating the Black Hawk helicopter.

”You’re not optimistic about the imitation Black Hawk helicopter, either?”

Mr. Wei asked directly.

”Mr. Wei, you also know that the Black Hawk helicopter has a built-in self-destruct device. It cannot be reverse-engineered unless we can find the self-destruct device and remove it.”

”But we don’t know how many self-destruct devices the other party has installed on the Black Hawk helicopters, and whether these self-destruct devices are linked.”

Lin Chenran does not recommend copying the Black Hawk helicopter because he knows that it cannot be copied and in the end it would be a waste of time and effort.

Lin Chenran’s words silenced Wei Laogan who was standing beside him!
This is the fact. Since the Eagle Sauce has installed so many self-destruct devices on the Black Hawk helicopter, it is to prevent the Yan Country from purchasing it and then imitating it.

It was obvious that Mr. Wei was also convinced by Lin Chenran.

Decided not to dwell on the replica of the Black Hawk helicopter.

Since it is impossible to imitate, then design, develop and manufacture it yourself.

At least Yan Country has a certain foundation in the design and development of helicopters.

After obtaining foreign exchange support from the 077 Mechanical Military Factory, they will have capital to invest in the design and development of helicopters.

”Lin, can your 077 Mechanical Military Factory design and develop a helicopter?”

If capable, Mr. Wei hopes that the 077 Machinery Military Factory can participate in the research and development of domestic helicopters.

”Forehead?”

”Mr. Wei, if I say I have the ability, would you think I am bragging?”

Lin Chenran hesitated and asked cautiously.

”Really capable?”

Old Wei was completely surprised.

I didn’t expect Lin Chenran to give such an answer.

”Ok!”

”We can even make an aircraft, so a helicopter shouldn’t be a big problem.”

Lin Chenran made a solemn promise.

”Okay! Okay!”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Wei was extremely excited.

This was the best news he had heard so far.

He really didn’t expect that the 077 Mechanical Military Factory was actually capable of designing and developing a helicopter.

And now Lin Chenran confidently assured him that the 077 Mechanical Military Factory has the ability to design and develop a helicopter.

”I am waiting for your 077 Mechanical Military Factory to design and develop the helicopter plan.”

Mr. Wei said with a smile on his face.

”No problem. Just wait and see the helicopter design and development plan of our 077 Machinery Military Factory. We will definitely not let your military down.”

Lin Chenran already has a general design and development direction.

Now that the matter had been accomplished, Mr. Wei left the 077 Mechanical Arsenal with satisfaction and went back to hold an internal high-level meeting.
