Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures

“I don’t understand!” Harry shook his head.

He glanced at Evan, who didn’t seem inclined to speak, then turned back to meet Dumbledore’s blue eyes.

Harry had a feeling of being seen through. In front of Dumbledore, all his secrets would be exposed.

Yet this familiar feeling brought him a small sense of relief. Before looking at Dumbledore, he was afraid that he would have the urge to pounce on him and bite him like a snake, just like last term, but this terrible impulse did not resurface.

After the connection between Harry and Voldemort was severed, everything returned to normal.

Dumbledore’s eyes were still so wise, full of wisdom, able to see through everything, yet inexplicably reassuring.

In a way, this was the familiar Dumbledore!

“I don’t understand, sir!” Harry said again, secretly relieved. “You told me and Evan before that you think you’re right.”

“Oh, naturally I do, but as I have already proven to you, I make mistakes like the next man. In fact, being — forgive me — rather cleverer than most men, my mistakes tend to be correspondingly huger — some so huge they leave no chance for correction, only endless regret,” Dumbledore said calmly. “Harry, you may not understand the full weight of my mistakes yet, but I think Evan has seen them!”

“Everyone makes mistakes, sir, but history cannot be changed after all. Instead of living in self-blame, it’s better to live well. I think that’s also what those who love us would want — they wouldn’t want to see the living continue to suffer,” said Evan, turning his gaze back to Dumbledore.

Previously, in the ruins of the Gaunt family, through the magic of the Resurrection Stone,Evan had witnessed Dumbledore’s greatest mistake and sorrow in this life .

That night in Nurmengard, he had also witnessed the deep connection between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, as well as their mutual redemption.

In a way, the mission that night had yielded significant revelations but had also brought an overwhelming heaviness.

Compared to a Dark wizard like Grindelwald, who pursued “the greater good,” Evan found Voldemort’s simple and pure evil easier to confront — there were no entangled emotions or moral dilemmas, just the straightforward necessity to destroy him!

“Very wise answer, it seems that you have indeed matured a lot,” said Dumbledore with a smile, ending the topic.

He got to his feet and walked around the desk, past Evan and Harry, who turned eagerly in their seats to watch Dumbledore bending over the cabinet beside the door.

When Dumbledore straightened up, he was holding a familiar shallow stone basin etched with odd markings around its rim.

He placed the Pensieve on the desk in front of Evan and Harry, the liquid swirling slowly inside, shimmering with a silvery glow.

“Shall we continue exploring those memories?” Evan asked.

“Oh, yes, Harry has missed a few crucial memories. Although we have found what was kept there, I think they will be very helpful in understanding Voldemort’s past and his family, and in completing our reasoning,” said Dumbledore. “Of course, Evan, you don’t have to accompany us to see these memories. You can go and do your own things first.”

“Hmm?” Evan looked at him puzzled, wondering what Dumbledore intended for him to do.

“Do you remember the suggestion I gave you during the start-of-term feast a week ago?” Dumbledore asked. “This matter is crucial — not only does it concern the soul you’ve been pondering, but it also relates to whether we can ultimately triumph over Voldemort and the sinister being at his side. Therefore, I suggest you take action promptly. Tonight is an excellent opportunity. I noticed you and Hermione borrowed quite a lot of history books from the library…”

“Hmm, we haven’t found anything conclusive yet,” Evan replied, understanding what Dumbledore was hinting at. “I can’t determine the exact time frame. You know, sir, I only have one chance to go back, so I must be absolutely certain.”

Harry looked at the two in confusion, not quite sure what they were talking about. What did Dumbledore suggest Evan to do?!

He knew that Evan and Hermione did borrow a lot of books from the library, but this did not attract Harry’s too much attention. On the one hand, he was mainly busy with the Quidditch tryouts in the past week. On the other hand, if they didn’t borrow books from the library, would they still be Evan and Hermione?

Even the large stack of books they borrowed at the very start of term hadn’t seemed unusual to him.

Harry watched as Dumbledore returned to the bookshelf and pulled out a thick, blue tome of magic, placing it on the desk.

Harry leaned forward and looked at the page Dumbledore was flipping through. It recorded an event related to Rowena Ravenclaw, the Founder of Ravenclaw House. The text detailed a famous magical discovery she presented at Hogwarts a thousand years ago.

Because it had happened so long ago, this seemed to be one of the few accurate records about her recorded in history.

Harry roughly knew what was going on. He had heard Evan talk about his current plan before. Although it was not very detailed, the core thing was to find the keys to the secret treasure left by the Four Founders of Hogwarts.

The key Ravenclaw had left behind required going back in time to request it from Rowena herself.

That’s right — Evan intended to return to Hogwarts a thousand years in the past.

This matter was very important, and Dumbledore was helping him.

Traveling to a time when Evan didn’t yet exist was an incredibly challenging feat. Ordinary Time-Turners lacked the necessary power. The task required the use of the Time-Titan’s Time-Turner, an artifact of immense strength, though such power came at a cost. Its use could inflict harm on the wizard wielding it.

Moreover, due to the nature of time magic, Evan’s actions would inevitably alter the future. A thousand years of accumulated effects could result in catastrophic changes.

Just like the last time he went back, his entire worldview had changed dramatically.

Centered around Evan, many events continued to unfold due to the inertia of time, but the changes grew more pronounced and far-reaching.

The dormant evil gods, those terrifying evil beings, and the remains of ancient spellcasters gradually resurfaced.

In a sense, Voldemort was no longer their biggest enemy.

The significance of the battle itself had also been upgraded. It was not just a matter for the British and European Wizarding World, but the whole world was implicated!

Therefore, Evan could not use the Time-Turner recklessly; he couldn’t afford to alter the timeline again.

Even going back to the distant past and talking to those ancient wizards was strictly prohibited.

The only exception would be if Evan’s journey to the past itself had become a necessary event within the timeline — what Ramses II had referred to as an inevitable event. Only in such cases would his actions not disrupt the timeline or alter future history.

Because it was an inevitable time event, it was included in the rules of the timeline.

No matter what changes occurred, the moment Evan returned to his present — specifically, the point when he activated the Time-Turner — it would still align with the reality he was familiar with.

It sounded convoluted, but that was the power of the rules!

The only item in Evan’s hand that could override the rules was the replica of the Eye of Horus given to him by Ramses.

This magic item could be used three times. Evan had used it once before, so he had two more chances!
