Reborn As Super Heiress

”Haha, I must not have made it clear. ARC stands for the Agency for Research on Cancer, an institute specializing in cancer and anti-cancer drugs, under the World Health Organization.”

Nie Dechang explained with a smile as he turned and pointed to the two people behind him: ”These two are experts from ARC. Let them take a look at Master Qin’s condition; maybe they can come up with some solution.”

Nie Dechang introduced the names and titles of those two on his own, but Huo Sining was completely out of it, not paying attention at all. Her mind was filled with Nie Dechang’s words just now.

When Nie Dechang told her that ARC was a cancer research institute, Huo Sining’s pupils suddenly contracted sharply. A flash of inspiration crossed her mind, and she was instantly alert.

Fujiwara Seiho was so concerned about those few Golden Lotus plants, and judging from his tone, those Golden Lotus plants seemed very important to ARC. Could it be that these plants have some special connection to cancer treatment?

Huo Sining’s heart suddenly started pounding fiercely, and her eyes gleamed.

If this matter is indeed as she suspects, then there is hope for treating Master Qin’s illness. If ARC really develops some special drug that requires those Golden Lotus plants, Huo Sining wouldn’t mind donating them if necessary, as long as ARC can do everything possible to treat Master Qin.

But before that, Huo Sining still needed to find someone to investigate because she didn’t know what role Fujiwara Seiho played within ARC. If this person had too much interference or too much power, Huo Sining might need to reconsider.

Huo Sining was very clear about Fujiwara Seiho’s character, sweet-talking but ruthless. Collaborating with such a person was akin to asking a tiger for its skin.

So in such circumstances, Huo Sining wouldn’t rashly reveal her cards. She silently followed the two ARC experts, quietly observing as they conducted blood and other tests on Qin Lianshan.

After completing various routine checks and hearing the two experts mention that it was too early to draw conclusions and that they needed some time to observe, Huo Sining refrained from saying more. She stayed at the Qin Family for a short while and then left.

Rushing to the TV station, she was still late. Fortunately, on the way, Huo Sining had called Han Wen, since her show’s slot was tenth, not too early. Even if she was over ten minutes late, it wasn’t a big problem.

But arriving at the TV station, Han Wen and Liu Chunying, along with several directors, were busy directing the scene and couldn’t attend to Huo Sining. They could only let her go backstage to prepare by herself.

Arriving late, Huo Sining found the backstage extremely busy, everyone engaged in their tasks. Due to the frequent costume changes and makeup applications, it was chaotic. Huo Sining didn’t have Gu Xu accompany her. Her sudden entrance drew the attention of everyone inside, and they turned their heads to look at her.

Huo Sining was poised, but she clearly sensed that some of the looks from backstage were inquisitive and scrutinizing, while others showed dissatisfaction or even disdain. Huo Sining was unfamiliar with these people and had no chance of offending them, so the only variable must have been one person.

Almost instinctively, Huo Sining looked toward a familiar face in the corner who was gloating over the situation. Without much thought needed, Huo Sining knew that Wu Jingyi must have done something behind her back.

Huo Sining was indeed correct, for this final rehearsal determined the final lineup of the program. Poor performance could result in being replaced by a backup act. Hence, all the performers worked diligently and arrived early at the backstage of the broadcast hall. Members of the skit group Wu Jingyi was in, including several national-level veteran actors, were no exception. As a minor celebrity, Wu Jingyi naturally couldn’t put on airs.

Once at the broadcast hall, Wu Jingyi unexpectedly found that Huo Sining had not yet arrived, which gave Wu Jingyi immediate leverage. She inwardly sneered and discreetly noted Huo Sining’s tardiness. As she chatted with others in the backstage makeup area, she intentionally steered the conversation toward Spring Festival Gala’s magic show.

Quickly, someone noticed the surprise that the new magician responsible for the performance was not only late to the last rehearsal but hadn’t shown up at all despite the program being about to begin. Initially, Huo Sining’s sudden replacement gave a less than favorable impression as it felt like she had gained the position through connections. Now that Huo Sining was late, this discovery swiftly sank her reputation among the esteemed veteran and international actors backstage.

With preconceived notions, some directly labeled Huo Sining as a small-time celebrity, who, after landing a wealthy and influential boyfriend, became arrogant and acted like a diva. These seasoned actors naturally looked down upon such individuals. Coupled with Wu Jingyi’s subtle disparagements, Huo Sining was instantly tagged as someone who used her connections to bully others, while Wu Jingyi’s sketch group was seen as the victim of Han Wen’s social climbing.

Initially, the actors had some reservations about Wu Jingyi, the newcomer pushed into the scene, but with a bigger target like Huo Sining around, Wu Jingyi was overlooked. Some actors even eyed Wu Jingyi and her group with sympathy, and many became much kinder in their attitude towards Wu Jingyi.

In this aspect, Wu Jingyi was indeed clever, seizing the opportunity to climb the social ladder. With good eloquence and cunning, she quickly won the favor of several seasoned actors in the entertainment industry, and they promised to help introduce her to a few production teams after the New Year to try her luck.

Receiving such a promise, Wu Jingyi felt overjoyed, and her gaze towards Huo Sining was filled with disdain and unspoken ridicule, waiting to see Huo Sining’s reaction.

Unfortunately, Wu Jingyi underestimated Huo Sining’s composure. Huo Sining didn’t pay any attention to Wu Jingyi’s petty tricks, for she never intended to enter the entertainment industry or mingle with its actors. Thus, she was indifferent to how people viewed her.

For someone like Wu Jingyi, appearing on the Spring Festival Gala might be a once-in-a-lifetime honor, but for Huo Sining, it was merely for fun. If not for Han Wen’s request and prior assurance to Chief Lu Zhou Shitao and others that she would perform, Huo Sining wouldn’t have readily agreed. Her reason for going on stage was entirely to avoid disappointing the elderly gentlemen.
