Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 898: Chapter 894: The Tea Farmer Professor

Huo Sining shrugged nonchalantly: ”The civil war in Myanmar has been going on for almost fifty years; what’s so strange about it? They fight their battles, you just focus on transporting the raw materials.”

Zhong Zifan shook his head, his expression even graver than before: ”If only it were that simple. But this time, the situation is more severe than ever, with the war reaching Yangon. The public auction originally planned for October is reportedly canceled.”

Huo Sining was taken aback upon hearing this.

In fact, the Myanmar civil war started in 1960 when military strongman Ne Win seized power and established a military dictatorship, denying the self-determination of ethnic minorities and initiating a Myanmar-ization assimilation policy. This policy plunged Myanmar into over fifty years of civil war, which has not ceased up to now.

Therefore, when Huo Sining heard Zhong Zifan mention the outbreak of war in Myanmar, she didn’t consider it news.

However, upon hearing Zhong Zifan’s explanation, she felt something was amiss.

”I’ve also heard that it’s not only the Myanmar government forces and ethnic minority armed groups like the Kachin Independence Army fighting. Local warlords and various family armed groups are involved too, seemingly over the distribution of jadeite raw materials.”

”There’s a rumor that if all parties cease fire for negotiations, the mining areas will be re-divided, and various family forces will reshuffle.”

”The situation in Myanmar is tense right now. Everyone’s watching, unclear about what’s happening, but judging by current events, this isn’t good news at all.”

”Over the years, the Myanmar government has already restricted the export of jadeite raw stones extremely strictly. If the military and ethnic forces reach an agreement to strictly control the export of jadeite raw materials, it would be a fatal blow to us raw material traders.”

Hearing Zhong Zifan say this, Huo Sining couldn’t help but furrow her brow.

Though she wasn’t savvy in current affairs, she could discern the underlying complexities.

In Myanmar, local warlords hold territories, and several family forces are evenly matched. Most jadeite mines are under the control of Myanmar’s warlords and families.

Previously, domestic raw material traders with connections could smuggle old mine raw materials by paying passage fees, maintaining survival, though the quantity wasn’t large.

Due to smuggling issues, the Myanmar government has proposed concentrating raw materials from various mining areas for sale in Yangon, aiming to strictly control exports. However, this proposition has been obstructed due to involvement from different forces.

Huo Sining suspected that if this civil war could really reshuffle the cards, allowing families to cooperate with the government military, then the Myanmar government’s resolution might pass. By then, jadeite raw materials entering Huaxia could be exploited further at the Yangon Public Plate.

As the largest consumer of jadeite, if the Myanmar government indeed controlled the export of raw materials, it would hugely impact Huaxia’s jadeite market, principally affecting raw material traders like Zhong Zifan and Liao Song.

Even if these traders found channels to source materials, bringing them back from Myanmar would be a big challenge. If they took risks for smuggling, the Myanmar military wouldn’t be passive; with guns aimed at their heads, they’d be risking their lives for money—it’s all about who dares to risk it.

Thinking of this, Huo Sining couldn’t help but sigh: ”It’s unavoidable. Others will be just as anxious when that time comes, not just you. Things will sort themselves out.”

This news wasn’t bad for Huo Sining, as she already had plans. She initially aimed to gather raw materials in Myanmar using her storage ring during the Yangon Public Plate.

Unfortunately, she was unexpectedly sent to Dongyang as an exchange student, catching her off guard, fearing she’d miss the Yangon Public Plate event. Now, the civil war in Myanmar offers her a chance to regroup.

Once the war ends, Myanmar will likely reschedule the Yangon Public Plate. By then, her Dongyang exchange period will be over, allowing her the time she needs.

With confidence, Huo Sining didn’t see it as bad news but rather as an opportunity, a thought she kept to herself, without explaining to Zhong Zifan and Liao Song.

After hearing Huo Sining’s comforting words, Zhong Zifan and Liao Song could only nod helplessly, falling silent.

While Huo Sining, Zhong Zifan, and Liao Song discussed the Myanmar civil war, several people in the Glazed Tile Pavilion sat silently with their thoughts. It wasn’t until much later that someone spoke up.

”Elder Yan, was that girl your student?”

The speaker was Chen Qiankun, about the same age as Yan Xuesong, also a senior professor at the institute.

Previously at Lan Que Xuan, Chen Qiankun had been watching Huo Sining, feeling she looked familiar. It was only when she started speaking that he suddenly remembered—hey, this girl was the student who bought his four pots of Old Pile Imperial Tea at the market.

Chen Qiankun remembered clearly that the student had lied to him in person, claiming to be Yan Xuesong’s apprentice. Working alongside Yan Xuesong, Chen Qiankun knew his students well and immediately saw through her lie.

The girl had persistently wanted to buy the four pots of Old Pile tea, and Chen Qiankun didn’t think she could afford the one million and five hundred fifty thousand, so he set a high price to deter her.

Unexpectedly, his words backfired. The girl wasn’t surprised or shocked upon hearing his price; she calmly asked for his account number and quickly transferred the amount.

This left Chen Qiankun in an awkward position, forced to sell his precious old tea trees as he’d given his word.

Although Chen Qiankun regretted selling them, he couldn’t retract his statement due to pride, watching his treasures being taken away.

Originally, Chen Qiankun thought the S City was big enough not to meet the girl again, only to encounter her here unexpectedly.

What surprised him even more was that the girl indeed knew Yan Xuesong, though not as he had guessed; she wasn’t an ordinary person.

”The girl, you mean Huo Sining?” Yan Xuesong snapped out of his daze, surprised at Chen Qiankun’s interest in Huo Sining, though curious, he replied earnestly, ”She’s not my student; she’s Xiao Qin’s student.”
