Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 891: Chapter 887 Vanity

As soon as Gu Xu entered the company, the secretary looked at him with a strange expression.

Feeling puzzled, Gu Xu didn’t think much of it and asked casually, ”What’s the matter?”

The secretary smiled awkwardly, ”There’s a Miss Yao who has scheduled a meeting in the reception room, she’s been waiting for almost an hour.”

Hearing the name Miss Yao, Gu Xu paused while taking off his suit jacket, looked at the secretary, and asked lightly, ”Did she say what it’s about?”

”No, she didn’t. Judging from Miss Yao’s demeanor, it doesn’t seem like she’s here to talk about this collaboration.”

After saying this, the secretary looked carefully at Gu Xu, a faint trace of gossip flickering in her eyes.

It was said that the president kept away from women and only got involved with the mysterious Miss Huo over the past year. The secretary had been by Gu Xu’s side for two years without seeing him get close to any woman.

But this Miss Yao seemed to have some past with the president, as if she wanted to reconcile.

It was like an 8 o’clock soap opera, and the secretary mentally concocted a love triangle story, suddenly energized and excited as if injected with adrenaline.

Gu Xu didn’t notice the peculiarity of his secretary. He hummed gently, finished reading the documents on the table carefully, and dealt with some accumulated weekend affairs. He was busy until after ten before he finally took a breather and called the secretary back in, ”Is Miss Yao still there?”

The secretary nodded, ”Still there.”

Gu Xu nodded slightly and stood up, walking towards the reception room.

Upon entering, he indeed saw a gracefully charming woman sitting quietly on a chair, looking at the busy traffic outside the window, lost in thought.

Probably hearing the door open, Yao Xinzhu snapped back to reality and immediately turned her head. Upon seeing Gu Xu standing at the door, a hint of surprise appeared in her eyes, ”A Xu...”

Gu Xu looked at her expressionlessly, ”Why are you looking for me?”

Yao Xinzhu felt a pang in her heart and lifted her head to look steadily at Gu Xu, ”My flight is tonight, back to France.”

Gu Xu nodded, his tone calm, ”That’s quite good. With your high caliber, you should shine in Samra. Isn’t this your dream?”

Yao Xinzhu instantly felt speechless, recalling her school days, a bitter smile appearing on her lips, ”You still remember, I almost forgot.”

Back then, she was full of aspirations, curious and eager about the glitzy world. Her biggest dream was to be both famous and wealthy.

”I remember. I also remember Miss Yao saying that without power or money, I, Gu Xu, would be destined for a lifetime of poverty. Miss Yao didn’t want to live a poor life, so you wanted to head to your fashion capital, hoping we’d never meet again.”

Hearing these words, a shudder ran through Yao Xinzhu’s heart, a flicker of shame and awkwardness in her eyes.

Had she truly known this man before her was the Gu Family’s youngest son, she must have been out of her mind to let go of such a promising prospect.

When she returned to the country and discovered that the person she sought to cooperate with was the very poor guy she once looked down upon, she was left stunned, filled with nothing but remorse and regret.

If Gu Xu had confessed his family’s background back then, how could she have left so decisively? If she knew Gu Family held such power and influence, why would she have struggled alone abroad all these years?

However, Yao Xinzhu couldn’t bring herself to say these words; she was vain yet still needed a shield of dignity, unwilling to expose her thoughts to ridicule and scorn.

Yao Xinzhu never thought there was anything wrong with being drawn to power and fame. Which woman doesn’t have such vanity? Hearing Gu Xu recall the past, a sliver of hope even arose in her heart. She lifted her head, looking at Gu Xu with hope and apology:

”A Xu, you still love me, don’t you? Let’s start over, shall we? Back then, I was blinded by fame and fortune, but I was young and didn’t see clearly what I truly wanted. Now I regret it, I’m willing to come back and stay with you. Whatever you want me to do, I’ll agree. Give me another chance, okay?”

Looking at Yao Xinzhu, Gu Xu only found the expression on this woman before him so glaring. Compared to Huo Sining, this person didn’t have a single aspect that could rival her. Even those tear-filled pleading eyes only seemed ridiculous to him.

Gu Xu’s face revealed a mocking smile:

”Yao Xinzhu, don’t you think you’re ridiculous? What do you take me, Gu Xu, for? Summoned and dismissed at your will, do you really think I’m so cheap to be toyed with by you?”

”As for what you said about whether I still have feelings for you, you’re overthinking it. Although the past bothered me, I never truly held you in my heart. You’ve overestimated yourself and underestimated me.”

”Do you think I can’t see through your thoughts? If I were still penniless like back then, if I, Gu Xu, didn’t have the power and status of the Gu Family, would Yao Xinzhu still turn back to try and start over with me?”

”Don’t waste your efforts, don’t waste each other’s time. I’m not that stupid, and don’t think you’re being clever. Since you discarded this relationship like it was nothing, why humble yourself now to retrieve it? Let’s leave each other some face.”

Hearing Gu Xu’s unrelenting words, Yao Xinzhu felt both angry and embarrassed. She had always been proud, always pursued by men, never rejected. None dared spurn her.

Only now did Yao Xinzhu feel panic. She always thought she was in control, but only at the end did she realize she used the wrong strategy.

She always believed that even after leaving Gu Xu, she could bring him back easily with just a curl of her finger. But at this moment, she understood how gravely she was mistaken.

Seven years is enough to change many things and transform someone completely.

Especially that undisguised mocking look on Gu Xu’s face, which was so jarring. At that moment, she knew clearly that their connection ended seven years ago.

Yao Xinzhu only felt that all her pride was trampled under his feet at this moment, a sense of humiliation rushing to her heart. Suddenly letting out a cold laugh, she looked at Gu Xu and, with a twisted expression she didn’t even recognize, sharply said:

”Yes, I’m not smart, but do you think you, Gu Xu, are that clever? Do you really believe Huo Sining is sincere with you? Besides being younger than me, how is that Huo Sining better than me?! Stop fooling yourself. If she didn’t have her eyes on your Gu Family’s power and status, would she be willing to marry you?”
