Urban Martial Saint

For Ye Qing, learning to drive was a necessary skill for urban life. Indeed, he could have learned from anyone, but he had his reasons for choosing Old Wang.

Old Wang had driven for Lin Zhen Nan for over a decade—steady behind the wheel and highly trusted; thus, he was reassigned to drive for Lin Huayu. Despite his reputation as the North Ring Thirteen with a rogue’s face, he remained loyal to the Lin family.

Having driven for the Lin family for such a long period, Old Wang was well-versed in their affairs. During his driving lessons, Ye Qing also managed to unintentionally extract lots of information about Boss Lin from Old Wang, who was entirely unguarded and forthcoming with information.

According to Old Wang, indeed, some in the Lin family were aware of what Boss Lin was really up to. However, they turned a blind eye to it. It was not that they favored Boss Lin, but Old Madam Lin protected him, leaving the others powerless. Old Madam Lin’s prestige in the family was exceptionally high!

The Lin family couldn’t control Boss Lin, and outsiders, considering the Lin family’s power, wouldn’t confront him either. Therefore, in recent years, Boss Lin had grown increasingly reckless in Shenchuan City, committing numerous heinous acts.

Moreover, Old Wang had vaguely heard that the disabled children and beggars Boss Lin used for begging was merely a front; beneath this facade, he seemed to be involved in other more profitable activities. However, these matters were secretive, and Old Wang didn’t know the specifics.

Ye Qing had agreed to work as a bodyguard for Lin Huayu as a means to get close to the Lin family and uncover information about Boss Lin. He didn’t dare ask Li Lianshan or Zhao Chengshuang due to his brother’s situation, knowing the more people that were aware, the less safe it would be. For his brother’s safety, Ye Qing preferred a slower approach rather than just retrieving a body.

Around ten o’clock at night, Old Wang was truly tired, and Ye Qing finally stopped studying.

Upon returning home, Mu Qing, Rong Fang Tingyun, and Mo Xiang were all sitting in the living room. Chen Keai usually worked late shifts, and honestly, Ye Qing didn’t see her much.

Seeing Ye Qing change into a brand-new set of clothes, Mu Qing and Mo Xiang were greatly surprised. Mo Xiang couldn’t help but put down her book and said, ”It’s true that clothes make the man; a change of clothes, and the effect is immediately different!”

Tingyun sat on the couch, staring blankly at Ye Qing. Her eyes filled with joy but also loss. She knew Ye Qing had changed jobs; she knew the clothes on him must have been bought by that rich girl. She hoped Ye Qing was doing well, yet she still felt an unavoidable emptiness.

While Mu Qing was amazed by the sophistication of Ye Qing’s outfit, she couldn’t help but frown slightly. She knew Ye Qing’s previous outfit had been bought by Tingyun. What must Tingyun be feeling having seen Ye Qing in such a getup?

Mu Qing glanced at Tingyun, and seeing her expression, her heart ached. She suddenly gathered up the plans on the table and coldly said, ”Ye Qing, it’s your first day at work; it’s better to keep a low profile. These clothes must have cost a pretty penny; although it’s nothing to Boss Lin, it can make people feel like you’ve finally found a foolish benefactor.

This can make people resentful and appear ungrateful!”

Mu Qing heavily emphasized the words ”appear ungrateful,” subtly hinting at Ye Qing concerning Tingyun.

Ye Qing remained silent, while Tingyun gave Ye Qing a glance and whispered, ”Ms. Mu, Ye would never be that kind of person!”

”Who knows!” Mu Qing felt even more annoyed, clutching the plans and going into her room. Ever since Ye Qing had left earlier in the day, she had never felt at peace. Seeing him tonight, she experienced an indescribable feeling, a mix of loss and perhaps jealous anger. Even she couldn’t quite understand her own emotions.

”Ms. Mu is right, it’s better to keep a low profile on your first day on the job. Look at that outfit, probably costs hundreds of thousands; it’s too extravagant!” Mo Xiang put away her book, ”That money, if donated to impoverished mountain areas, could allow many children to go to school. Wearing it all on your body is just a waste!”

Mo Xiang shook her head and went into her room, leaving only Tingyun and Ye Qing in the living room. Tingyun’s face turned slightly red, and she looked at Ye Qing awkwardly for a while before finally whispering, ”Ye, have you eaten? There’s still some porridge left tonight, would you like some?”

”That would be great, thank you!” Ye Qing nodded.

Tingyun hurried to the kitchen, fussed around a bit to warm up the porridge, and then carried it out. Seeing Ye Qing again in the living room, she paused briefly.

Ye Qing had changed back into his previous crumpled suit, looking much less dazzling than when he had arrived. However, seeing his worn-out clothes, Tingyun’s eyes couldn’t help but tear up.

Compared to the outrageously priced designer outfits Ye Qing had brought back, the clothes Tingyun had bought were far inferior—almost deserving to be thrown straight into the trash. However, the fact that Ye Qing hadn’t discarded them filled Tingyun’s heart with warmth.

Ye Qing walked over, took the bowl of rice from Tingyun’s hands, and tugged at his clothes, ”That other outfit was a bit uncomfortable; this one feels better.”

Fang Tingyun lowered her head, tears quietly streaming down her cheeks, yet her face was filled with joy.

At the same time, on the other side of the city, inside a luxurious villa.

Boss Lin and Yang Shitao sat face to face, both of them wearing grim expressions, especially Yang Shitao, who was visibly angry.

Boss Lin said frustratingly, ”I really don’t know why he is not dead. It’s mystifying. You saw it too, those people smothered him with a pillow for half an hour. Any person should have died, there’s no faking that!”

”But he isn’t dead now, and moreover, he has become one of the Lin family!” Yang Shitao tapped on the table angrily, looking at Boss Lin and said sternly, ”That old geezer Lin Zhen Nan, as soon as he speaks, he makes all those joint businesses scared shitless, immediately retracting. It’s clear he intends to protect that Ye guy, and with what he said, it seems he’s ready to threaten me as well.

Hmph, your Lin family is really pushing it too far. Does Lin Zhen Nan think I’m scared of him?”

Boss Lin stole a glance at Yang Shitao, thinking scornfully: If you aren’t afraid of him, why have you been so quiet these past few days? You talk big, but I haven’t seen you make a move!

Yang Shitao cursed a few times; he was truly furious at Lin Zhen Nan but felt helpless. There was no other choice, given Lin Zhen Nan’s extensive influence in Shenchuan City.

After finally letting Yang Shitao finish his tirade, Boss Lin spoke in a low voice, ”Boss Yang, in my opinion, it’s best if we avoid doing anything too rash during this time. Ye is now my cousin’s personal bodyguard, with my cousin there to protect him, no police would dare to touch him. If we try something through the underworld, that would be even more troublesome.

Although our target is Ye, if we make a move against him now, my uncle definitely won’t let it go. The kidnapping of my cousin has already made him a bit neurotic. Whoever dares to harm my cousin at this time is signing their own death warrant, my uncle will make sure of it!”

Yang Shitao sneered, ”Hmph, you talk as if your uncle could cover the sky with one hand in Shenchuan City. The last time your family’s Lin Huayu was kidnapped, your uncle still couldn’t save her in the end. If it weren’t for this Ye guy, your Lin family would have been ruined. Lin Zhen Nan, do you really think he is a god in Shenchuan City?”

Boss Lin shrugged and said, ”I’m just giving you friendly advice, Boss Yang. Going against my uncle right now really isn’t wise!”

Yang Shitao leaned back slowly in the sofa, and said coldly, ”Hmph, what if I really wanted to go against Lin Zhen Nan?”

Boss Lin looked up at Yang Shitao and after a moment, spoke softly, ”Boss Yang, Ye is just a retired soldier. If we want to deal with him, there’s no rush at this very moment. Why insist on making things difficult for ourselves?”

”Hahaha...” Yang Shitao laughed loudly, sitting up to look at Boss Lin, and said, ”Xiao Linzi, you seem to be getting more and more cowardly. With that kind of courage, how will you ever achieve great things in the future?”

Boss Lin was unfazed and replied, ”Better safe than sorry, I’ve always believed in that maxim!”

”Hmph, let me tell you, those who achieve great things are ruthless!” Yang Shitao sneered, ”I have the best way to deal with Ye!”

”What way?” Boss Lin immediately perked up, genuinely eager to resolve the issue with Ye Qing.

”Your uncle is protecting him, right? Now he is Lin Huayu’s bodyguard. It seems like Ye is protecting Lin Huayu, but actually, Lin Huayu is protecting Ye!” Yang Shitao tapped on the table and continued, ”But have you ever thought, if something happens to Lin Huayu during this time, how will your uncle deal with Ye?”

Boss Lin’s expression changed dramatically, and he looked at Yang Shitao in shock, saying sternly, ”What… what are you planning?”

Yang Shitao smiled lightly and said, ”You just need to answer my question!”

Boss Lin said gravely, ”Boss Yang, I advise you not to do this. Even if my cousin faces danger and Ye dies, my uncle will definitely investigate thoroughly. No matter who wants to harm my cousin, he absolutely won’t let that person go. Boss Yang, you have a high status in Shenchuan City, but if my uncle really wanted to deal with you, I fear you might find it difficult to escape!”

Yang Shitao’s expression turned cold, his eyes glinting as he stared at Boss Lin and said, ”Hmph, given the chance, I would really like to have a showdown with this Lin Zhen Nan. But right now, the most important thing is to avenge my son. Xiao Linzi, you don’t plan to keep ducking forever, do you? I tell you, as long as Ye is alive, you won’t have a good time in Shenchuan City.

If he digs out what you’ve been up to, I think you won’t need Ye to act; your uncle will be the first to kill you!”

Boss Lin’s expression fluctuated uncertainly, Yang Shitao’s words hitting exactly his fears. After a long silence, he slowly raised his head to look at Yang Shitao and said solemnly, ”What are you planning to do?”
