The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1567: Chapter 1567: Hao Dingshan Gets Duped

Zhao Xi rubbed his temple, ”Waiting is useless. You know very well, my master left a few days ago for Hetai Prefecture in the southwest, waiting until nightfall won’t bring him back.”

He seemed somewhat agitated, pacing up and down the corridor, and viciously kicked the wall.

This kick startled Hao Dingshan and his companion, causing their hearts to jump, and they hurriedly held their breath.

However, their eyes were wide open. They never expected that by merely following the servant beside Meng Yunzheng, they would overhear such a significant secret.

The conversation outside continued, Xia Yan sighed, ”Young Master Zhao, we all know this, but the people from the government office might not believe it.”

”What can be done if they don’t believe? There’s just nobody here, I can’t conjure someone up? My master’s departure is no secret; many folks are aware.”

”What if they want you to make contact?”

Zhao Xi sneered, ”How to make contact? My master is on the road now, I wouldn’t even know where to send a letter. Not to mention chasing him, he prefers wandering isolated mountain woods; seeing a mountain, he’ll climb it to search for herbs. Nobody can predict which path he’ll take, finding him? That’s tough.”

He snorted derisively, ”Originally, he said he would wait until my wife gave birth before leaving. But then, word came from Hetai Prefecture about a rare herbal medicine, and he immediately rushed off without a second thought.”

Speaking of this, he harshly wiped his face, ”What I’m worried about now is, if they can’t find my master, will they ask me to go to the Capital instead? I don’t want to get involved in any of this business, it might cost me my life.”

Upon hearing this, Xia Yan seemed to hold back from speaking.

Zhao Xi saw this and frowned, ”Say what you want to say.”

Xia Yan quickly responded, ”It’s not me saying it, it’s my Young Master. He says that Young Master Zhao need not worry; although your medical skill is impressive, it probably doesn’t surpass the head of the Imperial Hospital. The one in the palace surely only regards Old Doctor Zhao highly, wouldn’t make a disciple go in the master’s absence...”

Seeing Zhao Xi’s expression turn increasingly grim, he promptly fell silent, wisely changing the topic, ”In any case, my Young Master just wanted me to relay the situation to Young Master Zhao, to prepare your mind. When the government office folks come, speak honestly, and definitely don’t take any tasks after they promise benefits. We should just live our lives peacefully, and absolutely avoid interfering in the affairs of the capital.”

Zhao Xi glared at him, ”Do you think I need you to tell me this? Am I that kind of person?”

”Then... Young Master Zhao, shall we head back? Otherwise, if the folks from the government office can’t wait and end up coming this way, things might get troublesome.”

Zhao Xi exhaled heavily, ”I’ll wash my face, then head back.”

After he spoke, he drew two deep breaths, steadied his tense face, and walked toward the shop up front.

Once they left, Hao Dingshan and his companion quickly emerged, leaving through the back door without further ado.

After departing from the clinic, and walking for quite a while, the two exchanged glances, their eyes still filled with shock.

”Do you think the things they said are true?”

Hao Dingshan had suspicions, but felt the matter was likely quite close to the truth.

Who is Meng Yunzheng anyway? He’s the one who managed to deceive Gong Qiu with enduring patience; his analysis and speculation have certain accuracy.

He speculates that someone in the palace was poisoned, that should be it.
