The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1602: Chapter 1602: The Secret Meeting

Shu Yu, “…”

No, this voice sounded somewhat familiar to her, didn’t it?

She stepped aside slightly and soon saw clearly the person standing in front of Xu Cai.

A frail young man, dressed in coarse cloth and hemp, holding a bunch of wildflowers in his hand, his face beaming with a bright smile, and he had a certain charm that naturally elicited goodwill.

However, this was only superficial.

Without recognition, Meng Han asked softly, “Who is this?”

Shu Yu sneered, “Ge Qifei.”

At first, Meng Han didn’t react, but then suddenly recalled.

Ge Qifei? Wasn’t he the one whose family was in the tofu business, who got engaged to Lanhua earlier, but immediately ran over to break the engagement for fear of being implicated once he knew Shu Yu was exiled?

Though Meng Han had never met Ge Qifei, he had heard about him quite early.

It was from Madam Liang’s mouth; ever since Lanhua and Yu Fenglin’s wedding date approached, Madam Liang had been quite proud, after all, Madam Li had initially disagreed, but she had persuaded her.

She regarded herself as half a matchmaker, and feeling pleased about this matter, she couldn’t help but talk about it repeatedly to anyone she found interested, as if Meng Han’s curiosity was a cue to recount the tale, inevitably mentioning the blind-sighted Ge Qifei.

Upon arrival in Shangshi Village yesterday, Meng Han also heard others mention it.

However, during such a joyous occasion, bringing up that person seemed to bring misfortune, so he merely sighed once and didn’t bring him up again.

Therefore, Meng Han had only ever heard his name but never seen him.

Who would have thought he’d run into him here, indeed during a scene of him meeting secretly with Lanhua’s good friend Xu Cai?

“Could these two be having an affair?” Meng Han whispered.

Shu Yu twitched her mouth; she also thought that the tall, lush sunflower field now had the same function as the small grove behind the mountain — surprisingly fitting for secret rendezvous between men and women.

Before she could respond, Ge Qifei over there started speaking.

“So, how’s it going? Busy today at the Lu family? Did you bring me anything to eat? I heard the liquor they’re serving today is top grade, where’s the wine?”

Xu Cai puffed her cheeks, huffing lightly, “Wine, wine, that’s all you think about. I’ve got nothing, I’ve fallen out with Lanhua.”

Ge Qifei’s expression suddenly changed, “What did you say?”

Xu Cai hadn’t noticed his darkening expression yet, whining and complaining, “Lanhua just doesn’t know what’s good for her, I told her that Monarch Lu Xiang is not a good person, and she wouldn’t believe it. Do you know what gift she gave Lanhua this time? Just a set of gold headdress, even though Lu Shuyu is so biased, Lanhua still treats it like a treasure. I…”

“Are you crazy?” Ge Qifei couldn’t help but raise his voice.

Xu Cai finally sensed something off about him, blinking blankly up, “You, what do you mean? How am I crazy? That Lu Shuyu really isn’t a good person, didn’t you also say that she threatened you?”

“Precisely because she threatened me, I know how terrifying she is. Why are you picking a fight with her? If Lanhua tells Lu Shuyu what you said, have you thought about the consequences?”

Ge Qifei felt a chill run through his scalp, still remembering that time he feigned pity at the Lu family, hoping to gain Lanhua’s sympathy and make her reconsider reinstating the engagement, only to run into Shu Yu.

At the time, she merely ordered her maid to throw him out without saying anything else.
