The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1628: Chapter 1628: Old Master Qian Settles His Mind

The county office indeed stopped hearing cases, as Shu Yu mentioned, because it was too late.

However, there was still a place to detain the suspects; Zhang Qing was shut in by the officers, and Shu Yu directly returned home.

On the next day, as expected, the first case Lord Xie interrogated was the theft case of Zhang Qing. Shu Yu got up early, groomed herself neatly, and had the servants tidy up Madam Liang and her husband before they were led by the officers to the county office.

This was Shu Yu’s second involvement in a case, and she was already quite adept.

Lord Xie performed his routine duties and soon understood the origin and course of the incident.

Actually, this wasn’t considered a big deal, an ordinary case of theft. In the past, it would be handled simply by having Zhang Qing compensate Madam Liang and her husband twice their losses.

If not, involving a wealthy and influential figure like Old Master Qian, even if punished, it would be just a minor inconvenience for him. Fortunately, if he sought revenge, it would be the ordinary farmers of Madam Liang and her husband’s household who suffered.

Although Lord Xie practiced a middle-of-the-road approach, he was not unkind. Even though he wanted to resolve cases thoroughly for the people, he would advise the victims to stop if further trouble ensued. This is his consistent way of handling matters.

However, this time was different; Shu Yu was watching over this, and the sunflower seeds from the sunflowers were something she intended to buy. Clearly, she was set on confronting Old Master Qian, and naturally, Lord Xie stood by her.

Therefore, he detained Zhang Qing once more, postponed the case hearing, and immediately wrote a document for delivery to the Donggu County office to summon Old Master Qian.

It seemed a bit extravagant, but Lord Xie noticed that Monarch Lu Xiang looked rather excited.

Meanwhile, Donggu County wasn’t peaceful either. Although Old Master Xie had hired Zhang Qing to steal the sunflower seeds, he was quite anxious this time.

Last time, Zhang Qing sent over the sunflower seeds within a day, but this time, two or three days had passed without word, so he dispatched someone to Jiangyuan County to check.

The person returned with news of Zhang Qing’s arrest, shocking him so much in the morning that he spat out a mouthful of water.

It was said that Monarch Lu Xiang reported it personally, causing Old Master Qian’s mind to blur, pacing back and forth inside, unable to stop, until he was soon calmed by his attendants.

“No need to worry, my Lord. Even if she reports it, what can Monarch Lu Xiang do? Her influence can’t reach Donggu County. Besides, it’s not a significant case. You can send some quality tea to the county magistrate of Donggu County; he will surely help you stop this, as you share a bond. If worse comes to worst, we can go to the Zhang family, offering them some money, persuading Zhang Qing to take all the blame. It’s just a theft charge that money can settle.”

Upon hearing this, Old Master Qian agreed. He was needlessly scaring himself. What does Monarch Lu Xiang count as?

Rumor has it she had a good relationship with Lord Xiang of Jiangyuan County in the past, but now that Lord Xiang is gone, would everyone still pay her heed, a mere farmer girl?

Moreover, the stolen sunflower field didn’t belong to her.

Old Master Qian regained his composure and immediately instructed the servants to prepare superior tea and went straight to the county office.

When he came out, there was no trace of worry on his face anymore.

Not far away, Dazhuang and Ying Dong exchanged glances, “It seems the boss’s assumption was correct indeed.”

They arrived yesterday, not only located the Qian family’s workshop but also snuck in to observe the interior setup.

Indeed, oil pressing tools were installed inside.

Thus, they returned and spread the rumor.
