The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1637: Chapter 1637: Chaos in Changjin Prefecture

When Meng Yunzheng received the letter, he wasn’t surprised. He knew his father’s temperament well and could only write back urging him to protect himself.

Fortunately, the Meng family was in Chenggu County, which was still some distance from the prefecture. If chaos erupted in the prefecture, Chenggu County would have time to prepare to flee.

However, no one expected the chaos to come so quickly, and by a stroke of coincidence, the first place to fall into disorder was the county town of Chenggu County.

According to the news from Lord Fei, there was a group of mountain bandits near Chenggu County. Not long ago, they took advantage of the absence of the County Magistrate and the lax defenses to suddenly storm into the county town. Not only did they burn, kill, and loot, but they also broke into the homes of many wealthy families, kidnapping people and later demanding ransoms from those families.

Although the Meng family was not among the wealthiest, they had some assets. It was unclear whether they had encountered any trouble.

Meng Yunzheng’s face was grim when he received this news.

Lord Fei said, ”The situation in the capital is also very tense. Although nothing has happened yet, Changjin Prefecture has already taken action, most likely trying to use this chaos as a diversion. It is said that Changjin Prefecture sent troops to wipe out the mountain bandits but returned without success, further angering them and resulting in the killing of several hostages.”

”Naturally, they returned without success. Changjin Prefecture is already the territory of the Third Prince and his men.” Perhaps those mountain bandits were just soldiers in disguise, attacking themselves. Winning was out of the question.

Lord Fei nodded, ”Indeed, the magistrate of Changjin Prefecture reported that the group of mountain bandits was well-trained and not ordinary people, and requested the Emperor to dispatch troops. The Emperor secretly sent General Huang with troops to Changjin Prefecture.”

”General Huang?”

”Yes, the Emperor decided to use a plan against the Third Prince and his men. General Huang is skilled in commanding troops. Once he leaves the capital for Changjin Prefecture to quell the rebellion, as long as he is held back, they lose a considerable obstacle. They are likely to act in the capital.”

Meng Yunzheng understood these matters well. With the Emperor in the capital, he was not worried. The more pressing concern now was the Meng family.

Upon returning from the government office, Meng Yunzheng immediately went to find Shu Yu, ”I need to go back to Changjin Prefecture.”

Upon hearing about the Meng family’s situation, Shu Yu knew the urgency and prepared things for him at once.

Meng Pei of the Meng family was not around, and Meng Yunzheng also had to leave. Although there were servants at home, he still felt uneasy. Thus, Little Song Le was sent to the Lu family that same night.

Zhao Xi originally intended to go with him, but Meng Yunzheng stopped him.

It was too dangerous over there, and Zhao Xi had just become a father, so it was better not to risk it.

That night, Zhao Xi prepared several bags and bottles of medicine for him to carry with him.

Early the next morning, Meng Yunzheng took Xia Yan, tied the bundles onto the horse’s back, and quickly set off.

Upon reaching the city gate, he was surprised to find two people already standing there.

He was slightly stunned and quickly dismounted, rushing forward, ”Why are you here?”

Shu Yu patted the large white horse beside him, ”Naturally, I’m going with you. I’m also worried about Uncle Meng and Ah Han, and now that you’re going, I can’t stand waiting at home for news.”

Meng Yunzheng chuckled, ”But your matters here...”

”Lu’s has Wei Ronghua, the manor has Daniu, and the workshop has some stewards. They’re all capable people. They can discuss anything that comes up, so my absence temporarily won’t matter. Plus, the few important things in hand are already taken care of, so leaving now is no problem.”

Meng Yunzheng felt his eyes slightly warm. Holding Shu Yu’s hand, he said, ”Alright, then let’s set off.”
