The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1643: Chapter 1643: Eldest Uncle and My Father Are Missing

Meng Han held Shu Yu’s arm tighter, refusing to let go.

“Sister Yu, I never thought I’d see you again. You really came; am I dreaming? Boo hoo…”

“Of course it’s not a dream. We traveled day and night to get here. How are you? Are you okay?”

Meng Yunzheng stood beside the two, and seeing Meng Han was fine, he looked up at Meng Qi, Uncle Gao, and others coming out from behind the secret passage entrance.

Not seeing Meng Pei and Uncle Meng, Meng Yunzheng’s expression grew slightly grave, with a bad feeling crossing his mind.

It was only when Meng Qi walked closer that he asked, “Where is my father?”

Meng Qi’s steps suddenly halted, and the expressions of others were somewhat indignant and sorrowful.

Shu Yu furrowed her brows upon seeing this, and before she could ask in detail, Meng Han in her arms hiccupped and said, “Cousin, Eldest Uncle and my father have met with misfortune; they’ve disappeared.”

“What do you mean by disappeared?” Shu Yu let go of her, asking anxiously.

It was Uncle Gao who spoke, “This isn’t the place to talk. Let’s go inside the secret chamber to discuss.”

Meng Yunzheng nodded, signaling Xia Yan and Ying Xi not far away, and the group returned to the secret chamber.

The door to the secret passage was cautiously closed again.

Shu Yu surveyed the secret chamber, not noticing earlier, but once inside, she realized it was quite crowded.

Not only were the escorts from the agency present, but also their families.

But presumably, some escorts might be out on assignments, so there were only about seven or eight escorts here in total.

Including family members and a few servants from the Meng family, there were nearly forty people altogether.

Fortunately, the secret chamber was large enough, and judging by the traces, Meng Pei likely expanded it a bit when he arrived, as some soil in the corner was freshly dug.

Even so, with so many people together, it was extremely cramped, and the air was stifling.

It was already November, and while it was cold outside, the secret chamber was rather hot, making one break into a sweat upon entering.

Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng sat on a small bench to the side, and Meng Qi poured them each a cup of water.

They really needed it, as aside from a bit of water at the start of their journey, they hadn’t quenched their thirst and were really parched.

As Shu Yu drank, Meng Han recounted the events of the past few days.

The mountain bandits had suddenly invaded Chenggu County twelve nights ago, causing havoc, and many families suffered.

The escort agency was no exception, a gang of bandits burst in and started looting and killing. Their actions were aimless and chaotic.

The first mountain bandit who came in was killed by Meng Han.

That evening, Meng Han had a disagreement with Ms. Tao and felt upset, unable to sleep. She kept thinking about her carefree days in Jiangyuan County, and since her father had come back, she was planning to secretly follow him when Eldest Uncle went to Jiangyuan County.

At that time, Meng Han had no idea that chaos might erupt in Changjin Prefecture, so when the first bandit climbed over the wall, she was momentarily stunned.

However, the bandit was also stunned, but he quickly raised his knife and charged at Meng Han.

Meng Han instinctively dodged, then drew her dagger and thrust it, killing the bandit before she even realized it.

Meng Han was dumbfounded; she had never killed anyone before. By the time she came to her senses, her scream had already awakened the others in the escort agency.

Thus, when other bandits broke in, the Meng family members were already awake and armed for self-defense.
