The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1644: Chapter 1644: The Chaos of That Night

With Meng Han’s advance ’warning’, most people in the Meng family’s escort agency were quite skilled.

The mountain bandits gained no advantage against them.

Moreover, with the prior preparations of Meng Pei and Uncle Meng, the skilled members of the Meng family were outside resisting, while Meng Qi quickly organized the elderly, women, and children in the family to hide in the hidden chamber as soon as possible.

Everyone then realized that the Meng family actually had such a concealed place, with water and food in the chamber, making it very safe.

Meng Pei and Uncle Meng were the last to hold the line, but when they heard the outside screams of fighting and the bright flames, they didn’t dare to enter the chamber for a while.

If the Meng family’s escort agency were also set on fire, they might all suffocate to death inside the hidden chamber.

In fact, when Meng Pei was renovating the hidden chamber, he had dug a secret passage, not only expanding the chamber’s area but also attempting to create another exit.

However, the matter of the hidden chamber wasn’t suitable for too many people to know about, so when he came back, he only told Meng Qi, and from the beginning, it was just the two of them, uncle and nephew, working on it. Later, when Uncle Meng returned, the three of them worked together.

But the time was too short, and Meng Pei didn’t expect the chaos to come so quickly, and the direct location of the chaos was in Chenggu County, resulting in the secret passage only being half dug, catching them off guard.

Fortunately, after the first batch of mountain bandits who broke into the Meng family were dealt with, no one else came in afterward.

With Chenggu County being so large, most of these mountain bandits focused on targeting the wealthy families.

Places like the escort agency weren’t considered very wealthy, and with skilled escorts, they were inherently a tough challenge.

The Meng family spent the whole night in fear, waiting until the second day at dawn when the noise outside finally stopped. Meng Pei and Uncle Meng went outside to check and found a scene of chaos.

The people inside the hidden chamber also came out, and a few bold individuals went out to take a look, seeing troops patrolling back and forth, making no one dare to leave.

Only Ms. Tao and Tao Qin were still worried about their family, but with the curfew outside, the troops didn’t allow civilians to roam the streets freely, so they finally settled down.

After two days, the curfew was not as strict anymore, and people slowly began appearing on the streets.

However, by then, word spread that those mountain bandits had kidnapped several wealthy young heirs, demanding their families gather ransom.

Clearly, this matter wasn’t over yet. Although the Meng family was safe, Meng Pei and Uncle Meng remained vigilant.

When they could finally leave home, Uncle Meng visited the Tao family, but there was no one there, and it was unclear where they had gone.

Although the Tao family showed signs of chaos, with things smashed and broken, there were no signs of bloodshed, indicating that they had likely fled in advance.

As for where they had escaped to, at this critical time, they couldn’t find out.

Uncle Meng also visited the homes of the escorts who didn’t live in the agency and those who were out on escort assignments, and upon seeing that everyone was alright, he felt relieved.

However, they clearly relaxed too soon.

Another day passed, and Chenggu County experienced a small scale of chaos once again.

The next day, upon inquiring outside, they learned that a small group of mountain bandits had mixed into the city, breaking into several households last night to kill people, reportedly in retaliation because those families had killed quite a few bandits during the first night’s chaos.

When the Meng family heard this, their expressions changed.

Although they hadn’t encountered retaliation and were temporarily safe, this only indicated that there weren’t many mountain bandits, and currently, they didn’t have the manpower to seek revenge on them.
