The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1382: Chapter 1382: There Are Two Culprits

Old Master Tan instantly regretted it immensely. Yes, such a long time had passed, enough for the person who poisoned to destroy evidence.

However, any action would certainly leave traces. Old Master Tan took a deep breath and said to Old Doctor Zhao, “I understand. I’ll trouble you with this matter, Elder Zhao. I will make sure someone prepares the medicines you’ve listed as soon as possible and have them sent over.”

Then he turned to Shu Yu and said, “Monarch Lu Xiang, it’s getting late. Why not stay and rest at the manor tonight?”

Indeed, it was quite late, and the city gates were about to close. Shu Yu had no plans to return home.

Moreover, finding an inn outside might be difficult, especially with the academy exams approaching in a couple of days, the place was crowded with people.

So, she nodded, “Thank you for the trouble.”

Old Master Tan then asked Mrs. Tan to arrange food and lodging for them while he busied himself with other matters.

Old Doctor Zhao first performed acupuncture on Young Master Tan and then gave him a pill, after which he requested someone to prepare food.

Mrs. Tan watched anxiously as Young Master Tan actually ate a bowl of noodles without showing any sign of resistance or reluctance.

She widened her eyes and both cried and laughed. How long had it been since a scene like this last occurred?

They had consulted so many doctors, and not a single one could achieve this.

Mrs. Tan was deeply grateful to Old Doctor Zhao, sending all sorts of delicacies and luxuries to their room.

Shu Yu and Old Doctor Zhao were staying next door. When they saw each other return, they joined him for a meal, taking the opportunity to ask a few things.

“Sir, are you going to stay at the Tan Family for the next half month?”

After finishing his meal, Old Doctor Zhao slowly sipped some water, then raised his head to ask, “Why, do you have something you need help with? Come to think of it, you came to the Tan Family specifically to find us today, didn’t you? Is something wrong?”

Shu Yu shook her head, “It’s nothing serious. Just a friend who’s in poor health and needs you to take a look.”

Concerned that walls have ears, Shu Yu didn’t reveal the identity of the Xiao Family, nor mention that she had been poisoned.

Old Doctor Zhao felt relieved, “That’s not a problem. My main task here is to help Young Master Tan recuperate. I only need to check on him briefly every day, no need to stay constantly. Tomorrow I’ll tell Old Master Tan that there are a few medicinal ingredients I need to find myself, I’ll be out for a day, no big deal.”

“Alright, then let’s leave early tomorrow morning.”

Having made arrangements, Shu Yu returned to her room.

However, she didn’t sleep well that night, having a mind to find out who poisoned Young Master Tan. The chronic poison that affected him was likely the same as that of the Xiao Family.

From what Old Doctor Zhao implied, this poison was extremely rare.

Shu Yu was worried that the person harming Young Master Tan was connected to the Xiao Family.

The Tan Family dared not slack off in unearthing the culprit. Old Master Tan, quite the decisive man, had the entire Tan Family in an uproar that night.

The guest courtyard where Shu Yu stayed was far away, so it was relatively quiet there.

Early the next morning, Shu Yu winked at Old Doctor Zhao, who then asked Old Master Tan if they had caught the culprit.

Old Master Tan assumed he asked about the culprit to learn more about the poison and did not hide anything, though he appeared weary as he said, “He’s dead. Probably knew he couldn’t escape, so he committed suicide.”

“Was there only one culprit?”

“There were two, one was a servant who looked after my son’s daily life, and the other was a servant from the kitchen.” Old Master Tan’s face looked grim, “However, I’m afraid there are more than two, and the investigation will continue.”
