The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1367: Chapter 1367: All Thanks to Zhao Xi

The fake death of the Xiao Family wasn’t actually complicated.

She was already affected by a slow-acting poison, so they only needed to increase the dosage.

The Xiao Family was the maternal family of the Third Prince. At that time, the Emperor, while still a prince, was exceptionally wary of both the Second and Third Princes, naturally placing people in both families.

There was someone from the Emperor in the Xiao Family.

Originally, the Emperor didn’t plan to use them, but now, to save the Xiao Family member, he had no choice but to activate them.

The Xiao Family member had long suspected that the slow-acting poison was placed in her daily tea, because she always felt nauseous at mealtimes, so putting it in food wasn’t effective.

She often drank tea, so she seized an opportunity to accidentally spill tea on a handkerchief. Then, she handed it over to a servant placed by the Emperor in the Xiao Family, who took it out of the family to be examined by the Imperial Physician.

The Imperial Physician indeed detected traces of poison on the handkerchief.

Once the source of the poison was confirmed, Xiang Weinan and his group began their preparations.

They first had the spy find out who was preparing the daily tea for the Xiao Family member and who was poisoning it.

After discovering it was one of the maids around her, they replaced the poison in the maid’s possession.

When the maid brought the tea to the Xiao Family member, the member happened to be in a bad mood and threw a fit. After venting, she gulped down more than half the pot of tea.

The tea she drank was, of course, non-poisonous, but when she finished, the spy, taking advantage of the distraction, switched the teapot with one containing a large amount of slow-acting poison.

Soon, the Xiao Family member died from the poison.

The Xiao Family quickly identified the cause of her death, focusing on the teapot, and discovered that the poison dosage was unusually high that day.

When asked, the maid naturally denied it, claiming she used the usual amount—how could it be more?

But shortly, another maid testified that the Xiao Family member had been in a bad mood recently, often picking on the first maid, and even punished her the day before, witnessed by many.

The maid was suspected of increasing the dosage to seek revenge against the Xiao Family member.

Regardless, the Xiao Family member’s sudden death caught the Xiao Family off guard.

The Xiao Family member wasn’t just a Xiao Family daughter; she was also Xiang Weinan’s wife. Xiang Weinan visited regularly to show filial piety to his sick father-in-law.

Being a part of the Xiang Family, they needed to explain this matter to them somehow.

If the Xiao Family member had gradually succumbed to the poison and died, it could have been publicly claimed as due to severe illness, but this sudden death was undoubtedly abnormal. When Xiang Weinan saw her a few days ago, she seemed in good spirits.

This matter couldn’t be concealed. The Xiao Family informed Xiang Weinan, labeling the incident as a personal vendetta.

Xiang Weinan took the Xiao Family member’s ‘body’ back, but was dissatisfied with the outcome of the poisoning incident, demanding an explanation from the Xiao Family.

The Xiao Family didn’t want the situation to escalate, politely explaining to Xiang Weinan. Anyway, Xiang Weinan didn’t like the Xiao Family member, and with her gone, he could remarry.

The Xiao Family offered enough benefits, so Xiang Weinan dropped the issue.

As for the Xiao Family member, she had taken medication in advance to enter a fake death state until taken back to the Xiang Family.

“In fact, it was thanks to the medicine given by Doctor Zhao that the fake death plan could be implemented.”

Shu Yu recalled that before Xiang Weinan left, Zhao Xi didn’t send anything else, but indeed sent many medicine bottles.

It turned out there was even medicine that could induce a fake death inside.
